no firm forecasts can be name. The latter sources said they based their opinion that the Church will get better treatment if President Balaguer wins power on the fact that he is a "decent man" who has given the Church proof of his "sincere sympathy." They added that he tried to do his best for the Chucch despite the dictator's attacks.

ORDERED RELEASE They point out that he freed Bishop Thomas Reilly, C.Ss.R , two hours after the prelate was arrested following the dictator's assassination. The Boston -born Bishop, Ordinary of the independent prelature of San Juan de la Maguana, was seized some time before 4 a.m. the morning after the assassination by troops who broke into the Colego de Santo Domingo in Ciudad Trujillo. Following Bishop Reilly's release, President Balaguer apologised to him and sent a police guard to protect him at the school, to which he returned. Later the President and other high officials spoke with the Bishop at the Presidential Palace.

Church source, state that Bishop Reilly was satisfied with the conversations. Although the late dictator permitted attacks on the Church, he was buried with religious rites. Coadjutor Archbishop Octavio Beras of Ciudad Trujillo celebrated the a Requiem Mass in church in San Cristobal, the dictator's birthplace. He was buried in the crypt in the church.

Meanwhile, the Dominican armed forces announced that guards were being posted at the churches throughout country because one of the dictator's alleged assassins was given protection by a priest. The armed forces' statement said that Father Gabriel Maduro, of the Cure of Ars parish in Ciudad Trujillo had concealed Hues car Tejada Reina, who has been arrested as one of the assassins. According to the regimecontrolled newspaper, El Caribe, Father Maduro "pretended to deny the charge." The daily said that Mr. Tejada admitted taking refuge in the priest's parish house. Father Maduro has been taken into protective custody, the armed forces announced. Later police dispersed a mob attacking his parish church. The regime's anti -church drive continued up to the time of the dictator's death. Only two days before the assassination, 30 hoodlums interrupted a Mass being celebrated by Bishop Francisco Panal Ramirez of La Vega in his cathedral. A violent clash followed between the hoodlums and those attending the Mass. Last April, Spanish -born Bishop Panal, another severe critic of the Trujillo regime, was the victim of a mob attack. Pleasing Results Of Highgate Effort SACRED HEART CHURCH, Highgate Hill, became a centre of intense prayer and devotion for large congregations during the Novena in preparation for the Feast of the Sacred Heart -and the Forty Hours Devotion which followed. Responding to the appeal for a special crusade of prayer for the conversion of Russia and of Communists everywhere, the persecuted Church, Christian Unity and the success of the forthcoming Second Vatican Council, most gratifying numbers attended the Novena Devotions each evening. This culminated in an All -Night Vigil of Prayer and Reparation on the night of the feast, when a capacity congregation spent the whole night in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament exposed. A pleasing feature of the vi4i1 was the large number of young people who attended and the numbers who approached Holy Communion.
