POLISH PRIMATE APPEALS FOR PRAYERS The Primate of Poland, His Eminence Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, has written to the Polish Chaplain in Perth, V. Rev. Mgr. W. Dzieciol, appealing for prayers for Poland. Catholicism in this mainly Catholic country is being oppressed directly and indirectly. The struggle is not only severe, but its results may well determine the future of the Church in Poland and perhaps the whole cf Europe. CARDINAL WYSZYNSKI WRITES"We are most confident that the eyes of the Mother of Mercy are upon us. This year particularly we all seek the protecting arms of Our Queen. In March, the Polish Bishops have placed in the Motherly Hands of the Mother of the Eternal Priest themselves, their dioceses and their mission. "Recently the Warsaw priests, and in the month of May all the Catholic clergy and Religious of Poland, will consecrate themselves to the Mother of God, who has never abandoned nor refused anyone who fled to her protection. "Following the clergy's example, the faithful will also implore Our Lady's intercession-as the Polish Hymn so beautifully expresses: To whom should we miserable beings fly for protection if not to the one whose heart is opened to all, especially the distressed.

Douglas Hyde To Speak In Perth Perth is to be included in the Australian itinerary of Mr. Douglas Hyde, one-time British Communist leader. He is to give an address "Understanding Communism and Communists" at Subiaco Hall, on Sunday, May 28, at 8.30 p.m.

"I beg your prayers for the Church in Poland and I bless you all." MONSIGNOR DZIECIOL ADDS A PLEA We know that the religious situation in Poland has become critical. They need courage, prudence and patience to withstand these difficulties. As members of the Mystical Body of Christ, we should join our prayers with those who are fighting for the glory of the Church. During May, let us offer fervent prayers to the One whose might crushed satan's power on earth. When in a concentration camp, the knowledge that my dear ones were praying for me gave me hope and courage to overcome all hardships and finally secure my freedom. So the assurance that we in Australia are praying for those fighting and suffering.for the Church ire Poland will give the Polish Catholics the hope and courage to believe that the Catholic Church will gloriously triumph.

Banking -And Good Works The annual Bankers' Mass was held on Tuesday, April 18, at the Cathedral. Very Rev. Mgr. M. McKeon celebrated the Mass, at which one hundred and forty one members of the banking profession were present. This was a good representation of all local banks, and it is expected that this event will be more enthusi= astically attended each succeeding year. Taking as his text the words of St. Paul "He who hath begun a good work in you, will perfect it" the preacher Fr. McCrann a former banker spoke on the

maxims and sinful habits the importance of the supernatural virtue of prudence in working out our salvation should be stressed. We are always in danger of sinning either by excess or

defect. Prudence acts as the golden mean." Father McCrann urged the banke,, not to let their hours in the office be so much "dead wood" from the point of view of their heav-
