Nuns Sentenced
LONDON, May 12-(NC).Reports from Belgrade darken the already gloomy picture of the situation of the Church in Yugoslavia, where persecution of the clergy has continued unabated. The recent sentencing of seven Jesuit Fathers in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana has been followed up by the imprisonment of four Catholic nuns, latest word from there says. The nuns, the report says, were accused of wartime spying and received sentences of from two to four years at hard labour after "trial" in a district court in Novo Mesto, Slovenia. The nuns, it adds, were convicted of furnishing the priests previously sentenced with information concerning the work of Yugoslav
partisan units.

on the statue of Our Lady in St. Mary's Church here still gai-den-fresh, a third crown of yellow roses was placed on the statue. The two -year-old crown has neither withered nor lost any of its 22 petals. The 17 roses placed on the
statue last year also remain fresh. The phenomenon of the unusual roses has attracted world-wide attention, and the crowning ceremony was so popular that admission had to be restricted to ticketholders. Thousands unable to attend waited patiently outside the red brick church to see the statue later. The English Hierarchy has made no official pronouncement on 'the phenomenon of the roses. However, the popularity of the shrine increases from day to day.
