Father Lester Returns to Campion House
Father Edmund Lester. S.J., who died in 1934, at the age of sixty-eight. made a remarkable contribution to the work of the Catholic Church in England. Founder of the Knights, Handmaids, and Pages of the Blessed Sacrament, the organisation has now three million At members. Campion House he sponsored late vocations to the priesthood, and three hundred and sixty-two of his students have been ordained. Father Lester himself was re..:eived into the Church in 1883. and two years later joined the Society of Jesus. The Jesuit authorities in England negotiated with the Home Office for the 3xhumation and transfer of his body from Kensal Green Cemetery to the garden of Campion H.;use, Osterley, Middlesex. This air mail photo. shows the coffin being lowered into the flower -lined grave in the garden of his beloved Campion House—between the ninth and tenth outdoor Stations of the Cross.
