In his work, which required considerable organisation, Father Pro was ably and loyally assisted by a band of young Catholic laymen, among w hom wzts his brother. Humberto. The tasks they undertook and the burdens they shouldered were perilous in the extreme, and many- were caught to be crucified or otherwise put to death, having hail their tongues torn out. That Father Pro himself remained at large as long as he did is little short of miraculous, for his impudent daring and .facility for making fools of the Government and police singled him out as a particularly dangerous enemy of an infamous regime. Died Praising Christ the King The Cause of Father Pro, the Mexican Jesuit who was executed by Government orders in 1927. has been initiated by order of Archbishop Martinez, of Mexico. The Archbishop asks Catholics to submit all documents connected with the priest's life. yater Migue l'7o Juarez, Si., was executed after a farcical trial and upon false witn& for alleged Implication in the a .:nipt to assassinate ex-President Ai ro Obregon on November 13, 1927. As he faced t4ic tiring squad he extended his form a cross, .and crying "Long . }irist the King, ' he died. "Long live tThro.i. the King!" was Father Pro's triuulphant cry as the firing squad receiv..-d the order to execute him. Less than a later the priest's eyes closed, his knees sagged and he fell to the gr000d. Five shots had f ound their ma7k io his breast, but a sergeant of the ouard came and stood over the body and fired point-blank another shot int, the temple. Thus died Miguel Augustin Pro, priest of the Society of Jesus. on November 23, 1927. aged 36.
