Original Text in Use for 100 Years Will No Be Altered Oberammergau has taken a first step in preparation for its next Passion Play in 1940 by the election of a committee, which
held its first meeting last month. It opened with a minute's silence in memory of the patrons and participants of the last performances who have died since the tercentenary celebrations of 1934. The first resolution passed decided that the traditional text by "reformDaisenberger (whose ed" version of the play has been used for the past 100 years) will again be that employed for the coming revival. This is interesting in view of the fact that a large faction has been agitating for a more "modernised" version for the past two plays, which are given usually every ten years. Several changes in the person-
nel of the committee have been made. It includes, beside the ten members of the Oberammergau local district council (headed by Burgomaster (Lang): Georg Johan Lang (brother of the burgomaster and Passion Play producer since 1922); Dr. Bogen. reider, the parish priest; Alois Lang (the "Christus" of 1930 and 1934); Joseph Schieftl, the sculptor; Max Schauer, architect; UlHohenlietner, rich musician; Willi Bierling (who took the part of the Apostle John in 1934) ; and K arl Lang, art potter (a son of Anton Lang, the famous "ChrisAn honorary member of tus"). the committee is Professor Dietiler, who has been elected to the important position of director of
