"Ample Provocation For Revolt" pastors, while many Catholic cht.rches had been destroyed and priests killed. While a strong anti-clerical movement existed, there was no evidence of Godless propaganda. Toleration would be assured if in the future Catholic leaders separated religion from improper political activity. \ 41111bak/I011

Dr. Buxton said. "Anglicans who have lived in Spain all their ives almost unanimously repudiate the report. I have seen the steady deterioration of the Government in the last four years; also the rise of a violent anti-religious campaign. I witnessed in April, 1936, the burning of the historic church of Niebla by Communists. This was one of many hundred cases of destruction the Government was unable or unwilling to prevent.
There was therefore ample provocation for revolt." •

A large number of Italian colonists left the Esquilino at Massawa and all were wildly enthusiastic about the future.
A Paris building, once the home of Stayisky, the French financier, whose suicide caused a political crisis two years ago, has been opened as the new headquarters of the French Confederation of Catholic Workers. Scandal attached to the Stayisky crash so affected the public mind that since its exposure two years ago the imposing house in Place Saint Georges had remained unoccupied. Last year's social crisis added greatly to the Catholic confederation's prestige and the consequent great increase in membership necessitated the removal from Rue Cadet tJ larger pre-
