: —1 OR many months the preparations for the Congress have been carefully organised and on Wednesday last the opening ceremonies took place amid a vast gathering of pilgrims from all parts of the Catholic world. i The attendance of four repreentatives of the Vatican is one of the rare features of the Manila Congress. The Apostolic Delegates are Thrr. Paschal Robinson, Apostodic Nuncio, to Ireland : Mgr Mario Zanin. Apostolic Delegate t o China ; Mgr. George J. Caruana. Apostolic Nuncio to Cuba: and Mgr. J. Dreyer, Apostolic Delegate to Hue, Annan'. IndoChina, The concurrence of this nt,mher at one place is considered by Cong-ress officials as significant of the Pope's interest in the Congress, because of the fact that these dignitaries have to secure the permission of the Pope before leaving- their posts.
