They are to teach all nations, to instruct them in all truths and to fulfil this duty until the end of time. On the badge the Blessed 'Isrinity- is symbolised by the Fin•ger or Hand of God; the Dove; and the Book bearing the name of Christ. The Finger or Hand is an ancient symbol for God the Father, referred to—often in Sacred Scripture (cf. Book of Proverbs, 1, 2; Ecclesiasticus X., II. : Nlachhabies VII., 31), and variously used in Catholic symbolism as in representations of Christ's baptisms and other operations of divine grace. The Dove is the actual form under which the Holy Ghost has become visible, as at Our Lord's Baptism. In Catholic symbolism it is always used to typify the Holy Spirit. the Sanctifier and source of grace and enlightenment. Both the Finger and the Dove hear downwards pointing to the name of Christ --Lux Mundi Christus (Christ. the Light of the World.) This is an old liturgical phrase, that is, one used in the immemorial prayers of the Church. which sets out in symbolical form what Christ proclaimed of Himself and His Mis sion to teach men. "I am come a Light into the World, that whosoever believeth in Me, may not remain in darkness." (John XII.. 46). Christ is our light, and there is no light within or without us. apart from Him. This is the central point of the badge' symbolism. The world. i.e.. "all nations." is symbolised by the Globe under the Finger. and here the outline of Australia is prominent in the Southern Hemisphere. Under the head of the Dove is the Cross in Maltese form. The Book typifies Christ's Teaching for though the Church teaches primarily by the Living Voice She -uses also the written and printed word.
