dared that Father McKay, whenever he visited Perth, talked most of the time about Carnarvon and gave the town and people a great deal of praise. Now that he (the speaker) had seen the town, he expressed himself as being very favourably impressed with it, and could understand Father McKay's pride. He was glad to have been able to visit the -Banana Plantations. Speaking of the overland trip up, however, Dr- Sullivan was anything but complimentary in his references to the road. "Next time I come to Carnarvon I will come by 'plane," he declared. Referring to the fact that the new church had been designed by the Rev. Dean Hawes, of Mullewa, Dr. Sullivan said that while Father McKay was very pleased and proud with the work, as well he might be, the Dean must also be very pleased with the result of his plans, and no one more happy than he to be present at the open: ing of the church. He himself had enjoyed his visit to Carnarvon and was grateful to Father McKay for the opportunity of making the visit. Very Rev. Dean Hawes. The Very Rev. Dean Hawes. in a few brief remarks, also expressed his pleasure at having an opportunity of visitng Carnarvon for the opening of the new church and complimented Father McKay on his enthusiasm and work in the town and district. He also complimented the ladies responsible for the providing of the excellent luncheon. His Lordship's Address. His Lordship the Bishop of Geraldton (Dr. O'Collins) said t hat he was pleased to again visit C arnarvon, particularly as it was the occasion of the opening of the new Church of St. Marv, and he cong-ratulated. Father McKay on the attainment of something to which he had looked forward for a long time. He endorsed the remarks of previous speakers r egarding Father McKay's championship of Carnarvon, and now he would no doubt be also loud in his praises of the new church. Dean Hawes had done a great service in designing churches. Many of the churches in different country centres have been designed by him. The Carnarvon Church, however, was somethinc,/ to be specially proud of. (Continued on Page 9.)
