Last Saturday's festival commenced in the morning with Mass, celebrated There by the Rev. Father Goody. was a record number of Communicants, and it was particularly gratifying to see that the majority of them were adults. This morning demonstration, together with the huge crowd present at the evening Benedic tion, is more than sufficient to refute

any accusation of exaggeration and superstition in these loyal people's devotion to St. Anthony. Half a dozen little boys and girls made their first Holy Communion at the Mass, and all of them had been well prepared by Father Cunningham The girls were for the occasion. beautifully dressed in white with lace veils, and the boys wore a white silk sash over their shoulders. A fter the Gospel, Father Goody addressed the congregation, which filled every inch of standing yoom, in each of their three native languages. After

Mass two babies were baptised by Father Cunningham. A FTERNOON CELEBRATIONS. His Grace the Archbishop Addresses the Gathering. The more spectacular part of the festivities commenced in the afternoon, when their Graces the Archbishop and the Coadjutor Archbishop arThe Subiaco Band had most rived. kindly given their services, and they played a piece of welcome when the Archbishops' car drove up. Rev. Father Gorey attended thcir Graces. and the Italian Vice-Consul, Sig. Costantino, was also present. Rev Fathers Donogher and O'Connor also attended. The Procession. While the guests of honour were snaking a short visit in the church, the procession was forming up outside. A cross-bearer went first, fol. lowed by the bearer of a beautifully painted banner of St. Anthony. Six pairs of boys, dressed in red cassocks and surplices, came next. Then there were twenty or thirty other boys with
