Jur Distinguished Visitor THE APOSTOLIC DELEGATE ARRIVES WARM-HEARTED PERTH WELCOME tor and the Coadjutor Archbishop, in the leading car, led the triumphal procession. The Papal colours were much in evidence in Catholic institutions along the route to Perth. Passing by. Cottesloe, the children of Loreto Convent, Osborne, and of Presentation Convent. Iona, were lined up on each side of the thoroughfare to form a guard of honour, waving the Papal colours, as the distinguished visitor smiling his acknowledgement. passed by. ARRIVAL AT ST. MARY'S CATHEDRAL. Official Welcome by His Grace the Archbishop. Arrived at zst. Mary's Cathedral grounds, where crowds of people had awaited his arrivel from the early morning, His Excellency was conducted through a triumphal arch, decorated with the Papal colours, while ranged at each side as far as the Cathedral entrance, was a guard of honour composed of the children, from the various schools in the city. along the pathways in reverent anticipation. Arrived at the entrance to St. Mary's Cathedral, His Excellency was met by the Administrator of the Cathedral who led the way down the aisle to the High Altar, while St. Patrick's three hundred veiced choir feelingly burst forth in welcome, to the strains of "Tu Cs Petrus." The Cathedral was thronged with people ,,who knelt down -respectfully as the Apostolic Delegate passed through. Arrived in the Sanctuary, where the Diocesan clergy, in choral dress, awaited him, His Excellency was officially welcomed to the Metropolitan City of the West by His Grace the Archbishop. Owing to the historic nature of the ceremony, arrangements had been made by His Grace to have the Apostolic Delegate's address broadcast thioughout the Commonwealth. At the stroke of eleven o'clock. His Grace the Archbishop feelingly welcomed the distinguished visitor to Australia. and particularly to that portion of it w hich is His Grace's special charge, the Golden West. Bernardini. the newly appoint ed .Apostolic Delegate to Australasia. arrived in Fremantle. His Excellency was met at the Wharf by His Grace the Archbishop. the Coadjutor Archbishop-Elect, the Bishop of Geraldton (Right Rev. Dr. O'Collins), the Lord Abbot of New Norcia (Right Rev. Anselm Catalan. 0.S.B.), the Vicar Apostolic of the Kimberleys (Right Rev. .Nlonhignor Raible), and a large gathering of priests and laity. When His E xcellency appeared on the deck, the Clontarf Boys' Band struck up a welcoming greeting to the strains of ''God Bless Our Pope." When the gangway Was lowered. His Grace the Archbishop Was the first to go on hoard, to welcome His Excellency to our shores, He was followed by the Italian ViceConsul and representative members of the clergy and laity, including the Nlayor of Fremantle. The introductions and official welcome to His Excellency being concluded, the Apostolic Delegate was conducted from the s teamer through a guard of honour. composed of a host of school children from Fremantle. who waved their Papal flags in welcome. and then reverently knelt along the quayside for 1 his blessing. His Excellent',the Apostolic Delegate to Australasia, Most Rev. hop, as also the Apostolic Delegate's feeling reply. A t the conclusion of His Excellency's address, a "Te Deum" of thanksgiving was intoned by His Grace the Archbishop, which was taken up by the Priests' Choir and chanted in alternate verses to the close. Thus concluded one of the most historic days in the history of the West. His Excellency looks the picture of health and vigour, and has had a pleasant trip right through. He expressed himself as being particularly pleased with the warmth of the welcome which awaited him, and there is little doubt but that the high talent and charming personality of His Excellency will be used to good advantage for the glory of God and the welfare of the Church in Australasia. The interest awakened in the secular press by the distinguished visitor's arrival was really remarkable. Representatives from all the papers in the city awaited his arrival in Fremantle. and, accompanied the procession to Perth. His Excellency graciously acceded to many requests for interviews. and has undoubtedly given much evidence of that charm of manner for which he has already been widely noted. During his stay in the State, His Excellency is the guest of His Grace the Archbishop at Victoria Square. A luncheon in his honour, to which the chief representatives of the Diocesan clergy and distinguished visiting clergy were invited, was given by His Grace on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning His Excellency, accompanied by His Grace the A rchbishop. called on His Excellency t he Lieutenant Governor, Sir James Mitchell, the Premier, and Cabinet, at Pailiament House. On Wednesday afternoon His Excellency, accompanied by the Coadjutor Archbishop-Elect, was motored to New Norcia, where he was wholeheartedly welcomed by the Lord Abbot and his Community. He returned to Perth on Friday. and on Friday evening, was present at a conversizione in Governraent House, held in. his honour. It was atended by the LieutenantGovernor (Sir James Mitchell, and the Premier (the Right Hon. Philip Collier), and the members of his Cabinet, and representatives of every sphere of civic life in the city. On to-morrow (Sunday), he will consecrate the Coadjutor Archbishop-Elect, Most Rev. Dr. Prendiville, at St. Mary's Cathedral, at 10 o'clock. His Excellency will attend the reception and presentation of addresses to the new Archbishop on Monday night.
