Just days to go...
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Perth stands almost completely ready for its December 8 official opening and consecration in this photograph taken by Record photographer Justine Stevens from the twelth floor of Royal Perth Hospital on November 27. The completion of the Cathedral has been a triumph for its planners and for the Catholic community in Perth in overcoming 145 years of various stages and unforeseen halts to its completion. As workers put the last-minute finishing touches to the Cathedral this week, Catholics could confidently expect that it will stand for generations as a testimony in architecture to belief in God. St Mary's, as the Cathedral is commonly known, will be officially opened by Archbishop Barry Hickey on the Feast day of its patroness, Mary, under her title of the Immaculate Conception. Look out for next week's Special Souvenir Edition of The Record with all the pictures from the official opening night. PHOTOS • JUSTINE STEVENS, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF SF FRANCES STIBI.
