As I write my first letter to you as President of Archbishop Spalding High School, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of faith, academic excellence, and service. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of meeting many of our students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni Through those conversations, one thing has become abundantly clear: the strength of Archbishop Spalding has always been, and will always be, its people The spirit that inspires our students today is the same spirit carried forward by our alumni around the world
My first year has been one of listening, learning, and building relationships. Together, we will continue to honor our traditions while strengthening our Catholic mission and preparing our students to lead lives of faith, purpose, and service.

ENGINEERING CapstoneProjects
The Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Engineering Capstone course is the culminating experience for Archbishop Spalding engineering students,replacing traditional lectures and tests with a year-long,team-based engineering challenge.Working in teams,students identify real-world problems,research innovative solutions,design prototypes using CAD software,fabricate their projects,and present their work through professional design reviews,guided by industry mentors.The course concludes with a formal presentation and live Q&A before engineering professionals,giving students invaluable experience in technical communication,collaboration,and project management.
This year,58 students across 18 teams developed projects addressing challenges in healthcare,manufacturing, accessibility,and consumer products.The Overall Best Project award went to Project-TB,created by Sam Malta, Alex Henn,and Wafa Ashir,for developing a smart pill dispenser that improves tuberculosis medication compliance in remote regions of Africa using LoRa radio technology.Another standout project,Kiddie Kruisers,by Anthony Shaffer,Wyatt Crepeau,and James Bost,partnered with Patterson Physical Therapy to customize a rideon vehicle for a two-year-old patient with mobility challenges.Inspired by the Go,Baby Go initiative,the project incorporated a posture-activated driving system,parental remote control,and emergency safety stop to make therapy both engaging and impactful.Through projects like these,the PLTW Engineering Capstone program continues to prepare Archbishop Spalding students to become innovative problem-solvers while building meaningful partnerships with industry and the local community.Local businesses and STEM alumni interested in mentoring future Capstone teams are encouraged to contact Amy Brunner at brunnera@spaldinghs.org.

SPELLING BEE
The 2nd Annual NEHS Spelling Bee at Archbishop Spalding High School brought together an impressive group of students for an evening that celebrated scholarship,determination,and academic excellence.Each grade was represented by four students who stepped forward to compete,demonstrating not only exceptional spelling abilities but also the confidence and composure to perform in front of classmates,faculty,and families.As the competition progressed,increasingly challenging words tested every participant,narrowing the field to one finalist from each grade and setting the stage for an exciting championship round that featured a rematch between last year ' s top two competitors.Sophomore Michelle Okonkwo claimed the title after correctly spelling the final two words,earning the championship and a cash prize.While Michelle took home the top honor,every participant represented their class with poise,perseverance,and school spirit,with the freshman class especially impressing the audience through their confidence and strong performances. More than just a spelling competition,the event showcased the academic talent,resilience,and supportive community that defines Archbishop Spalding High School.The memorable moments of the evening,from quiet concentration and anticipation to joyful celebration,as students challenged themselves and cheered one another on throughout the competition.
CLUBS
Each fall,Archbishop Spalding High School celebrates students whose commitment to academic excellence,leadership,service, and character has earned them membership in one of the school's distinguished honor societies.This year ' s induction ceremony welcomed new members into the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society,Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society,Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society,French National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society,and Latin National Honor Society.Surrounded by family,faculty,and peers,each inductee was recognized individually during the ceremony,while the traditional candle-lighting served as a meaningful reminder that true scholarship is paired with integrity,compassion,and a commitment to serving others.
The Lumberjack Club has become a favorite tradition at Archbishop Spalding High School,bringing students together once each month to enjoy a stack of pancakes and great company before the school day begins.More than just breakfast,the club creates opportunities for students to connect across grade levels,build friendships,and strengthen the sense of community that makes Spalding special.Through simple moments of conversation,laughter,and shared meals, the Lumberjack Club continues to foster a sense of belonging and school spirit,one pancake at a time.
Hosted by the Make Every Day Count Club,Archbishop Spalding High School's Mental Health Awareness Day provided students with a meaningful opportunity to focus on wellness, connection,and self-care.Through engaging activities, educational resources,and opportunities for reflection, students were encouraged to prioritize their mental well-being while supporting one another.The day served as an important reminder that asking for help,showing kindness,and caring for ourselves and others are essential parts of building a strong and compassionate school community.

The National Art Honor Society Induction Ceremony at Archbishop Spalding High School was a beautiful evening celebrating student artists,their creativity,and the community that supports them.
With artwork displayed throughout the halls and a meaningful ceremony held in the chapel,the night was filled with moments of pride as families and loved ones admired and celebrated the work of these incredibly talented students.Under the guidance of the Art Department faculty members,the program's strength and the heart behind it were clear in every detail.

The 2025–2026 athletic year was one to remember at Archbishop Spalding High School.Congratulations to our championship teams in Football, Women's Golf, Baseball, Softball, and Dance, whose dedication, teamwork,and pursuit of excellence brought home championship titles and continued our tradition of success.
We also proudly celebrate all of our student-athletes who will continue both their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.Their accomplishments reflect years of hard work,perseverance,and commitment,and we wish them continued success as they represent Archbishop Spalding in the next chapter of their journeys.
MUSIC
The 2026 Archbishop Spalding High School Spring Concert series beautifully showcased a year’s worth of student growth,transforming early-season nerves into confident,breathtaking artistry. Across two unforgettable nights,the stage came alive with the ownership of the Symphonic Band, the deep emotional connection of the Choral Ensembles,the electric energy of the Percussion Ensemble,and the bold individuality of the Jazz Cavs.For the audience and particularly the families of graduating seniors performing on the Spalding stage for the very last time the event transcended music,capturing fleeting,bittersweet milestone moments of progress and proud farewells that will be cherished for years to come.

ALUMNI REUNIONS
The Alumni Weekend Kickoff at Archbishop Spalding in Severn, MD, beautifully reconnected the past with the present. The evening featured nostalgic, student-led campus tours where alumni relived old memories, followed by a warm tailgate in the Religion Courtyard that kept everyone talking and lingering long into the night.
The celebration reached a deeply moving milestone in the chapel as the Golden Cavaliers from the Class of 1976 gathered to receive their 50-year pins.Among them was Bill Holland,who traveled all the way from Florida and was part of the very first graduating class of male students when Spalding transitioned from an all-girls school.The afternoon wrapped up with an unforgettable,spontaneous moment when one alumna started singing the Alma Mater and others slowly joined in,filling the room with decades of memories and proving that the Spalding spirit truly stays with you forever.
