THANK YOU for participating in our Virtual Extravaganza – A Knight at the Disco Since 2004, the Bernard Family and the R.I. & F.A. Bernard Foundation have shared their generosity with Archbishop Hoban High School through their dollar-for-dollar scholarship match. This year’s match has been increased to $75,000! Since the passing of Ralph Sr. and Florence, their children Mr. Ralph Bernard Jr. (class of 1962) and Mrs. Regina Dain have continued this legacy. Over the past 15 years the Bernard family, along with our thoughtful and kind-hearted Extravaganza guests, have raised more than $1.4 million for student scholarships and financial assistance. So now we turn to you. Shop at the silent auction tables. Take a chance on raffles and games. Raise your paddles. Donate to student scholarships. And, HAVE FUN! – The Extravaganza Committee

Dear Hoban Family, Welcome to Hoban’s 35th annual Extravaganza, A Knight at the Disco, and Hoban’s first-ever virtual gala! Our advancement team and committees have worked very hard to pivot this event, which I’m positive will surpass all expectations. Since 1953, Hoban has prepared students for the rigors of college and the complexities of life. Our mission as a Catholic, Holy Cross school is to educate the hearts and minds of our students so that, building on our core values, they develop the competence to see and the courage to act. That academic mission is more important than ever after such an unprecedented interruption. Beyond the acute effect COVID-19 has had on our students’ lives, Hoban’s budget has been greatly impacted. We could not hold a live Extravaganza, nor did we generate the revenue our budget requires from cafeteria, concession, Hoban Store or ticket sales. Part of our mission as a Catholic school is to keep tuition affordable so that the Hoban experience remains accessible to all. Enrolling an economically diverse student body enhances the experience of every student, for it creates a learning environment that reflects the world in which our graduates will live, work and serve. We have set tuition rates as low as possible, and we greatly appreciate and understand the financial sacrifice families make to provide their children with a Hoban education. Still, tuition revenue alone does not cover the costs associated with educating more than 800 students. Extravaganza gives Hoban the “extra” leverage to provide our Knights with vital financial and material resources, sustains academic programming and daily operations, and helps us keep tuition as low as possible. Your support is the edge we need to give our students the life-changing gift of a Hoban education. The Bernard Foundation continues its altruistic tradition of providing a challenge gift to help raise scholarship and grant-in-aid monies. This year’s challenge is to match $75,000! We ask you to “raise your paddle” online to help exceed the $150,000 goal for student scholarships and financial assistance. In requesting this special consideration, I am very mindful of the generosity, charity, and volunteer spirit offered by so many that make Extravaganza successful. I look forward to sharing the evening with you, albeit remotely, and making an impactful difference in the lives of our students. Go Knights!

The R. L. & F. A. Bernard Foundation and other benefactors support the Extravaganza Challenge Scholarship Match Since 2004, the Bernard Family and the Ralph L. & Florence A. Bernard Foundation have annually shared their friendship and generosity with an Extravaganza Challenge Scholarship Match. This challenge originated with Mr. Ralph L. Bernard Sr. who passed away in 2009 at the age of 94. His children, Ralph Bernard Jr. ’62 and Mrs. Regina Dain, grandchildren Adam Bernard and Angie Craig, and the Bernard Foundation have continued this legacy of supporting Catholic education in the Akron area. The Bernard Family, with the support of generous Extravaganza guests, have raised $1,437,153 for student financial assistance over the past 16 years. This year, the Bernard Family has generously agreed to MATCH DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR ANY AMOUNT UP TO $75,000 donated to the Extravaganza Scholarship Challenge. We sincerely appreciate their philanthropic commitment to Archbishop Hoban High School. Please consider making a gift today. You will be supporting Hoban students and perpetuating the legacy started years ago by Mr. Bernard. The Hoban family has embraced his generous incentive, which has taught us that together we can make a difference! $200,000

A HUGE THANK YOU THE CREATIVE CREW! For the past 35 years there has been a dedicated, creative and tireless group of volunteers at Hoban. The Extravaganza Decorating Committee is a special group of friends who start in the fall, meet at least once a week, work from home and seem to always be carrying craft supplies in their vehicles. Every year a theme is chosen and the decorating committee makes it come to life for our one night of enjoyment. Lifelong friendships have been made over cutting, pasting and constructing. This year, even though our event was forced to be virtual, Michelle Mann and Wendy Reeves headed up an outstanding group of volunteers. We thank their decorating assistants Antonette Blackmon, Michael Blackmon, Tonya Brewer, Dan Brewer, Sara Crowe, Christy DeSantis, Marcy Fleming, Dawn Gainer, Kim Henry, Andrea Lindner, Claudia Little, Patty McIntyre ’78, Mary McIntyre ’77, Shelly Morehead, Beverly Olson, Anna Reymann ’78 and Stacey Ryan. Portage’s 18-hole golf course was designed in 1918 by famed architect William B. Langford. Rolling wooded terrain makes Fairlawn Country Club’s 18-hole, 6,256-yard golf course one of the most beautiful and challenging in this part of the country. Winding creeks, deep ravines and lush fairways are the setting for Fairlawn’s expert golf program of regular play. (Expires 3/31/2021) Golfing at Silver Lake Country Club provides golfers a variety of large, well-trapped greens, doglegs, large trees and water hazards to make every round a new experience. (Expires 9/1/2021) Value: $1,200 Donated by: Nevin and Laura Nussbaum, Silver Lake Country Club, Steve and Holly Wilt
