Now more than ever, our world needs leaders with thoughtful, critical thinking skills. Hoban’s Holy Cross educators live out Blessed Basil Moreau’s challenge to educate the hearts and minds of students so that they may have the competence to see and the courage to act. Hoban’s academic courses, including 15 Advanced Placement courses and 25 college credit plus courses, challenge and equip students for post-secondary success. Hoban graduates regularly share how well-equipped they are in college.

Student Success Academic Support and Tutoring Hoban supports a wide array of learning styles to help each student achieve their academic goals. Hoban’s Academic Success Center collaborates closely with the faculty and administration to ensure all students have the necessary tools and support to achieve success in high school and beyond.

Counseling Services Hoban’s Office of Student Services offers academic, social/emotional and college/career counseling to all students. Clinical counseling is also available to students upon request.

Successful completion of coursework in the AP program allows students the opportunity to take the AP exam in May. Students who take the AP test and earn a score of 3 or higher may receive course credit from colleges and universities.

CCP | College Credit Plus College Credit Plus allows students to take college classes at either Hoban or at a local university. CO U RAG E TO SERV E

Faith Formation Campus Ministry provides faith formation and support to students of all religious backgrounds as a way to nurture and fuel their faith beyond the classroom setting. Students are encouraged to be involved in liturgies by serving as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers and leading the school in prayer. The Office of Campus Ministry and Mission Effectiveness serves four major functions— faith formation, liturgy, retreats and Christian service— to complement the theology curriculum.

Liturgy As a Catholic high school, the entire school family gathers for Mass at key times of the year. Morning Mass is celebrated every week and is open to all students and Holy Cross educators. Prayer services are held throughout the year.

Christian Service Christian service empowers students to be faithful to our Holy Cross tradition, which calls us to “have the competence to see and the courage to act.” Hoban offers a multitude of service opportunities, facilitating meaningful engagement in community-oriented activities for those looking to contribute and give back, including:

JAM A multiple-day, summer retreat for students to participate in a service project with a local community organization.

Project HOPE Hoban’s Outreach for Peace and Equality empowers students to prepare and serve food and share fellowship with members of the Akron community who are unhoused or are experiencing food insecurity and/or other hardships.

Tutoring and After-School Programs Students travel to various schools and non-profit organizations to provide individual tutoring assistance with reading, spelling, math, vocabulary and other fundamental academic skills. Students serve as positive role models for younger students on their educational journeys.

“Being a student at Hoban is about far more than academics or athletics. It’s about using your gifts to bring God’s light into the world. Rooted in Holy Cross values, each of us is called to live with purpose, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of a community founded on that truth.” AVA TURNER Class of ’26

STRENGTH

I N U NI T Y The Hoban community beautifully embodies Northern Ohio. For students concerned about not knowing many people, they quickly discover they are not alone. Our school culture thrives on diversity and the fusion of different backgrounds. Here, students are encouraged to embrace their true selves, learn from each other and grow into the person God calls them to be.
