Product safety is a requirement for the final consumer and presupposes flow control of products, from manufacturing to distribution. EUROPEAN LEGISLATION In 2011 the European Union adopted a directive which indicates the key points of anti-counterfeiting which can be simplified into the concepts relating to “Safety Features” such as: Authenticity, Identification, Anti-tampering. Directive 2011/62/EU led to the adoption of the more modern and efficient system with Datamatrix that requires to affix, on medicine packaging, a unique two-dimensional code used for identification and traceability purposes. The legislation forces to have an anti-tampering or tamper evident device which makes it clear an opening of pharmaceutical package by third parties during the supply chain.
