indy Peters’s grandfather Ed Brinkert of Hartley, Iowa, bred his first mare to an Arabian stallion in 1957. Two years later, he made two selections at Gainey Arabians in Minnesota – the mare Scheraff (Indraff x Scheherazade) and stallion Galah (Nitez x Bride Rose). Both played strong roles in his program. Eventually the Brinkert operation, which was named MaRoSh for daughters Margo, Roxie, and Shelley, numbered 50 to 60 horses, and for many years centered on the Ferzon/Azraff cross. Through the years there were other sires, from the young Bey Shah to some of Ansata’s headliners to the rising young star Fame VF, who all left their mark on the program. But no matter the bloodlines or show fads of the moment, Brinkert maintained his focus on type, beauty, and depth of pedigree. “He called Arabians the ‘drinkers of the wind,’ and encouraged me to treasure their inherent and distinctive qualities,” says Mindy. Mindy’s aunt, Shelley Brinkert Hjelm, was another mentor and together they enjoyed showing, foaling out mares, trail rides and camping in the mountains with their horses. Shelley taught Mindy about caring for the horses and the importance of their pedigrees. “Mindy lived and breathed it,” recalled her aunt. Today, Mindy Peters Arabians continues the legacy of type, beauty, and pedigree exemplified by her grandfather’s program. Many of her extraordinary mares trace to lines that her family used, such as her two Bey Shah daughters. The exotic triple crown National Champion WN Ultimate Star figures heavily in her program, too,

with four daughters and a promising 2011 grey colt out of her National Top Ten Bey Shah daughter, Petronella SRA. His name is Petros MP and he’ll be one to watch in the coming years. The broodmare band also includes daughters of Versace, Padrons Psyche, Magic Dream, RSD Dark Victory and Magnum Psyche among others. There is a strong influence of *El Shaklan in the program, including an *El Shaklan daughter (Pietra MP out of Petronella SRA) the *Sanadik El Shaklan daughters Om El Jameelah and Om El Elegance, and the Om El Shahmaan daughter Om El Belinda Estopa who is the dam of the homebred superstars Bettina MP (by WH Justice) and Machiavelli MP (by *Marwan Al Shaqab). Mindy is also expecting five *El Shaklan foals in 2013 out of some of her best mares, along with *ZT Marwteyn, WH Justice and Epic MP foals.
