LA LÍNEA INVISIBLE

Durante una ronda de prácticas en Augusta, un joven jugador estaba leyendo un putt largo con absoluta convicción. Junto a él se encontraba Jack Nicklaus, que se acercó, observó unos segundos y le sugirió una línea completamente distinta, bastante más abierta de lo que parecía evidente.

El jugador dudó, ya que no parecía un golpe complejo, pero decidió confiar. Ejecutó el golpe… y vio cómo la bola seguía exactamente la trayectoria que el “Golden Bear” había anticipado, dejándose caer en el hoyo con sorprendente naturalidad. En ese instante entendió que no había golpeado mejor; simplemente había leído mejor.

Esa es una de las grandes enseñanzas del golf. En este deporte, como en la vida, no basta con ejecutar correctamente; es imprescindible entender el terreno sobre el que actuamos.

En un green, muchas veces la pendiente no se ve, pero está. Es sutil, casi imperceptible, y sin embargo condiciona el resultado final. Y lo más interesante es que no siempre gana quien golpea mejor, sino quien ha sido capaz de interpretar mejor esa inclinación invisible.

Fuera del campo ocurre lo mismo. Tomamos decisiones con preparación, pero sin haber comprendido del todo el contexto. Y ahí aparece esa ligera y mínima desviación que acaba marcando diferencias relevantes. El golf nos enseña a observar. A agacharnos, a mirar desde distintos ángulos y tomarnos el tiempo necesario para elegir la línea antes de actuar. Hay algo profundamente valioso en estos gestos. Son un ejercicio de humildad: aceptar que lo evidente no siempre es lo real. También son ejercicio de responsabilidad: una vez elegido el camino, el golpe depende únicamente de nosotros.

Y, finalmente, son un ejercicio de aceptación. Porque incluso habiendo leído bien la línea y ejecutado adecuadamente, hay factores que no controlamos. Quizás por eso el golf sigue siendo una fuente inagotable de aprendizaje. Nos recuerda que la diferencia no siempre está en la técnica, sino en la capacidad de comprender aquello que no se ve. Esa pendiente invisible.

Porque, al final, todos jugamos el mismo campo… pero cada uno recorre su propia línea.

THE INVISIBLE LINE

During a practice round at Augusta, a young player was reading a long putt with complete confidence. Standing beside him was Jack Nicklaus, who stepped closer, observed for a few seconds, and suggested a completely different line—far more generous than seemed obvious.

The player hesitated. It did not appear to be a particularly difficult putt, but he decided to trust him. He struck the ball… and watched as it followed precisely the path the Golden Bear had anticipated, dropping into the hole with remarkable ease. In that moment, he realised he had not putted better; he had simply read the green better.

That is one of golf’s greatest lessons. In this sport, as in life, executing well is not enough; we must also understand the ground on which we act.

On a green, the slope is often invisible, yet it is there. Subtle, almost imperceptible, and still capable of determining the final outcome. What is most fascinating is that victory does not always belong to the player who strikes the ball best, but to the one who has interpreted that invisible break more accurately.

The same happens beyond the course. We make decisions with preparation, yet without fully understanding the context around us. And then comes that slight deviation, almost insignificant at first, that ultimately creates meaningful differences. Golf teaches us to observe. To crouch down, to look from different angles, and to take the necessary time to choose the line before acting. There is something deeply valuable in these gestures. They are an exercise in humility: accepting that what appears obvious is not always reality. They are also an exercise in responsibility: once the line has been chosen, the stroke depends entirely on us.

And finally, they are an exercise in acceptance. Because even when we read the line correctly and execute the shot well, there are still factors beyond our control. Perhaps that is why golf remains an endless source of learning. It reminds us that the difference does not always lie in technique, but in the ability to understand what cannot be seen. That invisible slope.

Because, in the end, we all play the same course… but each of us follows our own line.

DIE UNSICHTBARE LINIE

Während einer Proberunde in Augusta studierte ein junger Golfer einen langen Putt mit voller Überzeugung. Neben ihm stand Jack Nicklaus. Er trat näher, beobachtete die Situation einige Sekunden lang und schlug eine völlig andere Linie vor – deutlich weiter außen, als es zunächst sinnvoll erschien.

Der Spieler zögerte. Der Putt wirkte nicht besonders schwierig, entschied sich aber, ihm zu vertrauen. Er spielte den Ball … und sah, wie dieser genau der Bahn folgte, die der „Golden Bear“ vorausgesagt hatte, bevor er mit erstaunlicher Leichtigkeit ins Loch fiel. In diesem Moment verstand er, dass er nicht besser geputtet hatte – er hatte das Grün einfach besser gelesen.

Das ist eine der großen Lektionen des Golfsports. Im Golf wie im Leben reicht es nicht aus - etwas gut auszuführen; wir müssen auch den Untergrund verstehen, auf dem wir handeln. Auf einem Grün ist das Gefälle oft unsichtbar – und doch vorhanden. Subtil, fast unmerklich, und dennoch entscheidend für das Ergebnis. Das Faszinierende daran: Nicht immer gewinnt derjenige, der den Ball am besten trifft, sondern derjenige, der diese unsichtbare Neigung besser erkannt hat.

Außerhalb des Golfplatzes ist es ähnlich. Wir treffen Entscheidungen gut vorbereitet, ohne den gesamten Kontext wirklich verstanden zu haben. Und genau dort entsteht diese kleine Abweichung, die am Ende einen großen Unterschied macht. Golf lehrt uns zu beobachten. Uns hinunterzubeugen, die Situation aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln zu betrachten und uns die nötige Zeit zu nehmen, die richtige Linie zu wählen, bevor wir handeln. In diesen Gesten liegt etwas zutiefst Wertvolles.

Sie sind eine Übung in Demut: die Erkenntnis, dass das Offensichtliche nicht immer die Wirklichkeit ist. Sie sind auch eine Übung in Verantwortung: Ist die Linie einmal gewählt, liegt der Schlag allein bei uns. Schließlich sind sie eine Übung in Akzeptanz. Denn selbst wenn wir die Linie richtig lesen und den Schlag gut ausführen, bleiben Faktoren, die wir nicht kontrollieren können.

Vielleicht ist genau das der Grund, warum Golf eine unerschöpfliche Quelle des Lernens bleibt. Es erinnert uns daran, dass der Unterschied nicht immer in der Technik liegt, sondern in der Fähigkeit, das zu verstehen, was man nicht sehen kann. Dieses unsichtbare Gefälle.

Denn am Ende spielen wir alle denselben Platz… aber jeder von uns folgt seiner eigenen Linie.

UN AÑO QUE MARCA EL RUMBO

Hay años que pasan y años que construyen. 2026, incluso con varios meses por delante, ya pertenece a los segundos.

En Son Quint, la renovación de los nueve greens de la segunda vuelta marca un importante avance en la puesta a punto del recorrido y eleva su calidad de juego. Más allá del campo, el restaurante estrena propuesta italiana —pizzas y platos de pasta pensados para hacer de cada jornada una experiencia completa—. En Son Muntaner, la innovación da un paso adelante con la incorporación de dos sistemas de conducción autónoma en las segadoras de calle, que nos convierten en pioneros en Baleares en esta tecnología aplicada al mantenimiento de grandes superficies; a ello se suma la renovación integral de la Sala Capitana, con nueva decoración, mobiliario y equipamiento. En Son Vida, la nueva flota de buggies ya está en circulación.

El reconocimiento externo acompaña este progreso. Son Muntaner revalida por noveno año consecutivo la Gold Flag de 59Club —la máxima distinción de la entidad, sostenida sin interrupción durante nueve años—, mientras Son Vida y Son Quint reciben la Silver Flag, esta última por primera vez. Golf World sitúa a Arabella Golf Resort en el puesto 29 del Top 100 de Resorts de Lujo de Europa. La renovación del sello EMAS y la obtención del Employee Choice Company —que reconoce a las personas que hacen posible todo esto— completan un conjunto de certificaciones poco habitual en el sector.

Los próximos meses traerán nueva señalética en Son Muntaner y la finalización de un lago de almacenamiento de agua de riego, paso clave en nuestra hoja de ruta de sostenibilidad.

There are years that pass by, and years that build. Even with several months still ahead, 2026 already belongs to the latter.

At Son Quint, the renovation of the back nine greens marks a significant step forward in the continuous enhancement of the course and raises the quality of play to a new level. Beyond the fairways, the restaurant unveils a new Italian concept — pizzas and pasta dishes designed to make every round a complete experience. At Son Muntaner, innovation moves forward with the introduction of two autonomous fairway mower systems, making us pioneers in the Balearic Islands in the use of this technology for the maintenance of large-scale golf facilities. This is complemented by the complete refurbishment of the Sala Capitana, featuring new décor, furnishings and equipment. At Son Vida, a new fleet of buggies is now in operation.

External recognition continues to accompany this progress. Son Muntaner retains the 59club Gold Flag for the ninth consecutive year — the organisation’s highest distinction, maintained without interruption for nearly a decade — while Son Vida and Son Quint receive the Silver Flag, with Son Quint achieving it for the first time. Golf World ranks Arabella Golf Resort 29th in its Top 100 Luxury Golf Resorts in Europe. The renewal of our EMAS certification and the achievement of the Employee Choice Company award — recognising the people who make all of this possible — complete a collection of certifications rarely seen within the industry.

Auf Son Quint markiert die Erneuerung der Back-Nine-Grüns einen wichtigen Schritt in der kontinuierlichen Weiterentwicklung des Platzes und hebt die Spielqualität auf ein neues Niveau. Auch abseits des Golfplatzes gibt es Neuerungen: Das Restaurant präsentiert ein neues italienisches Konzept mit Pizzen und Pastagerichten, die jeden Golftag zu einem rundum gelungenen Erlebnis machen. Auf Son Muntaner setzt die Innovation ihren Weg fort: Mit der Einführung von zwei autonomen Fairway-Mähsystemen sind wir Vorreiter auf den Balearen beim Einsatz dieser Technologie für die Pflege großflächiger Golfanlagen. Campeón con el FC Barcelona, internacional con la selección española y exjugador de la NBA con los Oklahoma City Thunder, el mallorquín ha construido una carrera marcada por el talento, la constancia y la búsqueda permanente de la excelencia. Hoy, esa misma pasión por el deporte encuentra continuidad en el golf, una afición que le permite competir, desconectar y disfrutar del entorno privilegiado de su isla. En esta conversación, nos habla de su relación con el golf y de su vínculo con Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca.

¿Qué papel ocupa ahora el golf en tu vida tras tu carrera profesional?

El golf me ha ayudado mucho en esta nueva etapa. Pasé de una rutina de entrenamientos y partidos casi diarios durante 15 años a tener mucho más tiempo libre. El golf ha sido clave para ocupar esas horas y mantenerme activo.

¿Es más una forma de desconectar o de competir?

Un poco de ambas cosas. Me gusta la parte competitiva, aunque sea conmigo mismo. Aún no he jugado torneos oficiales, pero siempre hay ese pique entre amigos para ver quién paga las cervezas de después. Ahora mismo me estoy centrando más en salir del campo con buenas sensaciones y buenos golpes más que en buenos resultados.

También me ayuda a desconectar, el hecho de estar durante horas rodeado de paisaje verde, lagos y amigos hace que no pienses en nada más.

Como mallorquín, ¿qué significa para ti poder jugar al golf en un entorno como Arabella Golf Mallorca?

Es increíble poder disfrutar de los tres campos tan cerca de casa. Son campos que te piden cosas totalmente diferentes pero los tres están cuidados al mínimo detalle. Son Quint es más permisivo en los primeros 9 y eso me gusta porque así no pierdo tantas bolas.

Son Vida es más técnico, viene bien para practicar sobre todo los hierros. Y después está Son Muntaner, es el más bonito y completo de los tres para mi gusto.

¿Qué hace que disfrutes realmente una ronda de golf?

Para mí lo más importante es la compañía en el campo. Me encanta ir con amigos, disfrutar de la ronda y pasar un buen rato entre risas. Lo mejor es cuando montamos pools grandes de 8 jugadores y competimos entre todos.

Few athletes understand the demands of elite competition as well as Álex Abrines. A champion with FC Barcelona, a Spanish international, and a former NBA player with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Mallorcan has built a career defined by talent, consistency, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Today, that same passion for sport continues through golf, a pastime that allows him to compete, unwind, and enjoy the privileged surroundings of his island. In this interview, he shares his relationship with the game and his connection to Arabella Golf Resort Mallorca.

What role does golf play in your life now after your professional career?

Golf has helped me a lot during this new stage of my life. I went from a routine of training sessions and games almost every day for 15 years to suddenly having much more free time. Golf has been key in filling those hours and keeping me active.

Is it more a way to disconnect or to compete?

A bit of both. I enjoy the competitive side, even if it’s just competing against myself. I haven’t played any official tournaments yet, but there’s always a friendly rivalry among friends to see who ends up paying for the beers afterwards. Right now, I’m more focused on leaving the course with good feelings and solid shots than on the final score.

It also helps me switch off. Spending several hours surrounded by green landscapes, lakes and friends means you stop thinking about everything else.

As a Mallorcan, what does it mean to be able to play golf in a setting like Arabella Golf Mallorca?

It’s incredible to have three courses of this quality so close to home. Each one asks something completely different from you, yet all three are maintained to the highest standard.

“GOLF HAS PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN FILLING THE TIME THAT OPENED UP AFTER MY RETIREMENT.”

Son Quint is more forgiving on the front nine, which I appreciate because it means I lose fewer balls. Son Vida is more technical and great for working on your iron play. Then there’s Son Muntaner, which for me is the most beautiful and complete of the three.

What is it that makes you truly enjoy a round of golf?

For me, the most important thing is the company on the course. I love playing with friends, enjoying the round and sharing a few laughs along the way. The best moments are when we organise bigger groups of eight players and compete against each other.

Welche Rolle spielt Golf heute in Ihrem Leben nach Ihrer Profikarriere? Golf hat mir in dieser neuen Lebensphase sehr geholfen. Nach 15 Jahren mit nahezu täglichen Trainingseinheiten und Spielen hatte ich plötzlich deutlich mehr freie Zeit. Golf war entscheidend, um diese Zeit sinnvoll zu nutzen und aktiv zu bleiben.

Ist Golf für Sie eher Entspannung oder Wettbewerb?

Ein bisschen von beidem. Ich mag den Wettkampfgedanken, selbst wenn es nur darum geht, mich mit mir selbst zu messen. Offizielle Turniere habe ich bisher noch nicht gespielt,

aber unter Freunden gibt es immer den kleinen Wettbewerb, wer später die Biere bezahlen muss. Im Moment konzentriere ich mich mehr darauf, den Platz mit einem guten Gefühl und einigen gelungenen Schlägen zu verlassen als auf das reine Ergebnis.

Außerdem hilft mir Golf dabei abzuschalten. Mehrere Stunden inmitten von Grünflächen, Seen und Freunden zu verbringen sorgt dafür, dass man an nichts anderes denkt.

Was bedeutet es für Sie als Mallorquiner, in einer Anlage wie Arabella Golf Mallorca spielen zu können?

Es ist großartig, drei so unterschiedliche Plätze direkt vor der Haustür zu haben. Jeder fordert etwas anderes vom Spieler, gleichzeitig sind alle drei bis ins kleinste Detail gepflegt.

Son Quint ist auf den ersten neun Löchern etwas verzeihender, was mir gefällt, weil ich dort weniger Bälle verliere. Son Vida ist technischer und ideal, um das Eisenspiel zu trainieren. Und dann ist da noch Son Muntaner, der für mich persönlich der schönste und kompletteste der drei Plätze ist.

Was macht für Sie eine Golfrunde wirklich besonders?

Für mich ist die Gesellschaft auf dem Platz das Wichtigste. Ich spiele gerne mit Freunden, genieße die Runde und habe Spaß dabei. Am besten ist es, wenn wir größere Flights mit acht Spielern organisieren und gegeneinander antreten.

Más de 1.800 alumnos de 22 centros escolares han participado en los últimos cinco años en el Programa de Educación Ambiental de Arabella Golf Mallorca, integrado dentro de la estrategia de sostenibilidad Green Evolution.

A través de visitas guiadas a los campos, los estudiantes descubren la riqueza natural de estos espacios, la flora y fauna autóctona y la importancia de la biodiversidad, además de conocer la gestión sostenible de los campos de golf.

Durante la experiencia, aprenden el uso de aguas regeneradas para el riego, la preservación de ecosistemas, la reducción de residuos y las acciones de compensación de CO₂.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

Over the past five years, more than 1,800 students from 22 schools have taken part in Arabella Golf Mallorca’s Environmental Education Programme, an initiative integrated within the resort’s Green Evolution sustainability strategy.

Through guided visits to the golf courses, students discover the natural richness of these landscapes, their native flora and fauna, and the importance of biodiversity, while also gaining insight into the sustainable management of golf facilities.

During the experience, they learn about the use of reclaimed water for irrigation, ecosystem preservation, waste reduction and CO₂ offsetting initiatives.

Arabella Golf Mallorca ha impulsado nuevas acciones para favorecer la biodiversidad en sus campos, con la instalación de cajas nido y hoteles de insectos en Golf Son Vida, Golf Son Muntaner y Golf Son Quint.

Con la colaboración del ornitólogo Josep Manchado, se han habilitado 30 cajas nido para aves autóctonas como lechuzas, abubillas y aves insectívoras, así como 10 hoteles de insectos que favorecen especies beneficiosas para el ecosistema.

Estas iniciativas refuerzan el equilibrio natural del entorno, fomentan la biodiversidad y contribuyen al control biológico de plagas de forma sostenible.

HAVENS FOR BIODIVERSITY: NEST BOXES AND INSECT HOTELS

Arabella Golf Mallorca has introduced new initiatives to enhance biodiversity across its courses through the installation of nest boxes and insect hotels at Golf Son Vida, Golf Son Muntaner and Golf Son Quint.

In collaboration with ornithologist Josep Manchado, 30 nest boxes have been installed for native bird species such as barn owls, hoopoes and insectivorous birds, alongside 10 insect hotels designed to support beneficial species within the ecosystem.

These initiatives strengthen the natural balance of the environment, promote biodiversity and contribute to sustainable biological pest control.

Una de las rutas más atractivas parte de la bahía de Palma. Al amanecer, la silueta de la Catedral se recorta sobre el casco histórico mientras la ciudad despierta lentamente. Desde allí, la navegación hacia el suroeste permite descubrir enclaves como Cala Blava, el Cap Enderrocat y Cala Vella, donde las aguas turquesas y los acantilados ofrecen algunas de las estampas más espectaculares de la costa mallorquina.
