From The President...
T
his time last year Joe Sellers was saying “it is time for get back in the game”!! What Joe was referring to was having the first Parade of Homes
since 2010. Not only did we get back in the game, the entire team played its most impressive and complete game in a long time. This year’s Parade of Homes success is the equivalent of winning the Super Bowl of Parades. The GMHBA has had many parade of homes, this was one of the best I can remember, and I have been around since 1990. As head coach, I would like to ensure that the credit for this event goes to the team of professionals who chaired, orchestrated and executed every detail flawlessly. I know I don’t have enough time or space to recognize each team member, but I would like to thank a few. First of all, thanks to the Jim Mathews Current Board of Directors and the Executive Committee for having the confiMathews Development 2015 GMHBA President dence in moving forward with this year parade of homes. The Developers, Builders, Subcontractors and Suppliers for putting in the long days to ensure the homes would exceed the customer expectations. Thanks, to Mugs Mullins our parade chairman and his committee for a wonderful job. Thank you to Anita Carter and the Associate Committee for all of their endless contribution and work during the three weeks of the Parade of Homes. The GMHBA staff was the MVP of this year’s parade of homes; once again they put the team on their back and lead us to a tremendous victory!!! The All American Home was a highlight in this year’s Parade of Homes. Thanks to the endless list that contributed to the All American. Thanks to the committee for all their time, effort and attention to detail. Special thanks to Cathy Brown with Alabama Power, United Heating and Air, and Sensigreen for teaming up for an impressive Score a 60 on HERS test, which achieved the highest rating of platinum. Elizabeth Jordan Acme Brick and Tile, put it all together with perfect selections on paint, brick, tile, and marble counter tops. Jason Collins with Builders First Source, was a tremendous resource and supplier for the home. Caroline Lawrence with Alagasco, worked with Parrish to stage the house with timeless furniture and accessories. Robert Mitchell with Advanced Tech systems installed the latest and greatest high tech equipment that today’s buyers love. Mugs Mullins listed the house and Anna Kate Bowen sold it the week before the parade opened. Touchdown GMHBA!!!! Get your running shoes out, start your training program, and get ready for this year’s Moonlight Dash. This year’s race will be held August 22nd at New Park. The format this year not only features the 5k race, but a 10k race as well. Please contact our Staff if you are interested in running or sponsoring the race. July/August, 2015

just couldn’t resist revisiting this story of the geese and how the lesson connects us in our association as well as our patriotic spirit. “As geese flap their wings, they create an up lift for the bird following. By flying in a ‘V’ formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if any bird were to fly alone. When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone, and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front. The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed. e survived!!! June was a busy month but an exciting one!!! And the Parade of Homes was a great success!! As I reflect back on the months leading up to the Parade of Homes and the three weekends of the Parade, I am in awe of the Associate Committee, the Associates and all the companies each of you represent. What a Parade we had, with 57 homes Anita Carter Jim Wilson & Associates built by 21 of the River Regions best Associate Committee Chair builders. As you know, every Parade has a Grand Marshal. The definition of a Grand Marshal is a person(s) honored as the ceremonial marshal of a parade. Well, if you ask me the Associate Committee was the Grand Marshal of the 2015 Parade of Homes. From getting sponsors for various events, to driving the golf cart as a shuttle and making sure it was at the right place at the right time. To helping with the Kick off Party at New Park with set up and clean up, to directing traffic, to moving the Photo Booth 5 times, and most of all surviving a monsoon and rescuing many members and guests from the mud. (A night we will not forget). To delivering parade guides
and waters to parade houses. To stepping up to donate items for the Central Site from cooking hot dogs and hamburgers in 100 degree heat to providing pizza to our guest at the Central Site……..and the list goes on. But most of all for supporting me, the Association and the Builders during the Parade of Homes. The 2015 Parade of Homes could not have happened without each of you giving of your time and resources. I serve an AWESOME committee and this year’s committee represents what teamwork is all about.I am grateful for each of you and the relationship we have created!! I can not thank you enough and I look forward to the rest of the year and working on Moonlight Dash in August and the Golf Tournament in September. And one last thing, the Association has reached their ABPAC before Summer Boards this year and I want to say thank you for helping us do it. They say it takes a village to raise a child….. Well it takes a village to make GMHBA a great Association and each of you have contributed to the Association in some way. Y’all ROCK!!
