CITY OF SANDY SPRINGS/PROVIDED

Don McLean will sing his iconic hit “American Pie” at this year’s Stars & Stripes Fireworks Celebration on July 4 in Sandy Springs.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A developer planning to build a new subdivision on busy Spalding Drive where Sandy Springs and Dunwoody connect has cleared its first hurdle. At its May 19 meeting, the Sandy Springs City Council approved rezoning five parcels on Spalding Drive to make way for developer The Providence Group to build 21 new singlefamily homes. The Providence Group, based in Johns Creek, is seeking to rezone two more parcels in Dunwoody to add three houses

to the same development. The Dunwoody Planning Commission will consider the request June 9 before it heads to the full City Council. Plans call for a total of 24 new homes at Spalding Drive and Pitts Road, straddling the Sandy Springs-Dunwoody city limits. There are currently five single-family homes on the Sandy Springs portion of the project. The Dunwoody property currently contains a driveway for a single-family structure located on the North Atlanta Church of Christ property on Roberts Drive.
