City to begin work in fall on multimillion-dollar fire stations By DYANA BAGBY dyana@appenmedia.com SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — Construction of two fire stations is set to start in October, including a new station on busy Roswell Road just south of I-285. Renovation of a third station will begin early next year. All projects are
slated for completion by the end of next year, city officials said. Sandy Springs Fire Chief Keith Sanders gave Mayor Rusty Paul and the City Council the timeline of the plans during a May 5 work session. The new and improved stations are funded through $50.5 million in revenue bonds approved by the city last year. When completed, the city
will have invested close to $70 million over the past five year in fire safety. A new Fire Station 4 with a separate logistics building will be built on nearly 7 acres at 5275 Roswell Road, the site of a former strip club. The city purchased the property last year for $10 million. Fire Station 4 currently operates from 4697 Wieuca Road, located just
outside the Sandy Springs city limits in Atlanta. Moving the station into Sandy Springs is expected to improve response times and save local taxpayer money. In 2024, the department responded to numerous calls inside Atlanta, costing the city more than $500,000.

Bidding bye-bye to bottlenecks
Crews work on Mount Vernon Highway at Roswell Road May 5 as part of the Mount Vernon Highway/Johnson Ferry Road intersection project. After two years of construction, both roads will return to two-way traffic at Roswell Road this month. The project will alleviate bottlenecks for east-west traffic on Johnson Ferry Road and Mount Vernon Highway and north-south traffic on Roswell Road.
