Spring Fling gala acts to preserve Milton heritage By STANLEY LEARY newsroom@appenmedia.com MILTON, Ga. — The Milton Historical Society brought together history, conservation and community on April 24 during its annual Spring Fling, held at The Wildflower Barn in Milton. The event blended live music, local storytelling and preservation efforts into a relaxed gathering that highlighted the people working to protect Milton’s heritage. It serves as both a fundraiser and a community gathering offering residents an opportunity to connect with the people and stories that have shaped Milton as it continues to grow. By bringing together conservationists, historians, musicians and community leaders, the evening reflected a shared commitment to preserving Milton’s character while looking toward its future. Among them was Chip Reed, who hosted a table to share the conservation work he and his wife, Roberta Reed, began in 1994. Through the land trust they helped establish, the couple has worked with landowners to protect more than 1,300 properties totaling more than 500,000 acres across Georgia. Their approach allows families to preserve land through conservation easements while maintaining ownership, helping balance growth with long-term environmental stewardship.

GDOT posts survey for Milton on detours, bridge replacements MILTON, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Transportation is seeking residents’ input through May 15 on the detours and two bridge replacements over Little River planned to begin in 2036. Residents can provide feedback on the Georgia Department of Transportation’s website.
The two bridges that connect Milton with Cherokee County could be closed at the same time for around 18 months. Detours will use Antioch Road, New Bullpen Road, Birmingham Highway and Hickory Flat Road to divert drivers around construction. GDOT oversees inspections of
bridges across the state, determining which ones need maximum load limitations, repairs or replacements. It controls every aspect of subsequent projects, including construction and detours.
