By ANNABELLE REITER annabelle@appenmedia.com MILTON, Ga. — St. Francis High School graduate Camryn Golston is a double threat — triple if you include her TikTok account with nearly 40,000 followers. The valedictorian is a true coach's point guard, the kind her coach can rely on to ensure everyone is in the right spot for the play. Her impact on the court earned her a spot on a Division I basketball roster at South Alabama University (SAU). Fitting rigorous athletic and academic routines into her schedule became a balancing act, but Golston never faltered from her goal of maintaining her No. 1 ranking in the class. Her parents say her ambition comes from a deep-rooted competitive attitude. Since her elementary school days playing basketball against boys, she has loved to win. Even more, she cannot stand losing. "It just doesn't sit right with my spirit," Golston said. She and her family live in College Park, and they started making the hourlong drive up to St. Francis every weekday when she was in sixth grade. Camryn's mom, Wendy, who is the Athletic Director at Carver High School and the vice president of Region 5-AAA, says basketball has matured her youngest daughter, and she carries the mentality of hating to lose into everything she does. "She's always been very serious about basketball," Wendy said. "She took it serious when everybody was just out there playing around." Wendy, who graduated from Mays High, reflected on family vacations to New York and Spain where Camryn would get her hands on any basketball available and dribble down busy sidewalks. She said Camryn's competitive spirit has occupied her entire life.
