Residents provide ideas for new athletic complex By HAYDEN SUMLIN hayden@appenmedia.com MILTON, Ga. — There was a lot of chatter – even with low attendance – at a March 25 open house for Milton’s future athletic complex. A few Hopewell Youth Association players and their families attended, sharing anecdotes about scheduling conflicts, lack of available baseball diamonds and their excitement for the new ones off Deerfield Parkway. Other residents raised questions about on-site parking constraints and expressed their desire to save some of the trees at the 24-acre site, which is heavily forested. The city is building a new active park, or athletic complex, on just over 24 acres that would include four diamonds and two rectangular playing fields. It’s the latest development in a process that began last April when the Milton City Council approved an agreement to buy just over 21 acres at 300 Deerfield Parkway for $8 million, taking a step towards solving a growing frustration in the city.
