TUNNEL VISION Passage to serve as Town Center gateway, event space By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — A new, cavernous pedestrian tunnel is more than simply a safe access point to Johns Creek’s The Boardwalk, city officials said.
The 124-foot-long, 42-foot-wide passage does indeed link to one of the city’s most important community gathering and recreation spaces, but the tunnel could also be used as a venue for events, said Brian O’Connor, public works director. The tunnel runs under Medlock Bridge
Road near Johns Creek Parkway, linking homes and businesses on the west side to The Boardwalk, which opened in May. City officials plan a ribbon cutting for the tunnel at 9 a.m. Aug. 12. Workers are putting finishing touches on the tunnel, which is complete and open to the public.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — Johns Creek will be the site of a new location for a Minnesota-based barbecue chain. Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que will open at 10710 State Bridge Road, Suite 150 — an Alpharetta address within the Johns Creek city limits — in the fall. It is operated by a group called The Georgia Partnership, which includes Dr. Derek S. Scott, operations developer Vetra A. Stephens and growth strategist Lord Bryan DeGraffenreid. The new location will be the “flagship location for long-term growth across Georgia,” according to a press release from the group. Famous Dave’s was founded in 1994 in Hayward, Wisconsin, and now has 111 locations in 30 states as well as a Winnipeg, Canada, branch and three locations in the United Arab Emirates.
