Stalled makerspace plan draws council attention By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com JOHNS CREEK, Ga. — The Johns Creek City Council discussed potential cost savings for a planned community robotics workshop after a contractual road bump in March delayed the project. City staff presented cost-savings options for the project to council members during an April 20 work session. Council members will decide later whether to move forward with a site at Cauley Creek Park or choose another location. They also will decide whether to consolidate the workshop with a potential indoor recreation center, potentially resulting in construction and other savings. The robotics workshop, dubbed “makerspace,” is back for council consideration after a design-build contract fell through in March. Council members terminated the contract after contractor MAPP failed to account for assembly occupancy requirements for gatherings, potentially adding $500,000 to the price tag.
