Forsyth County extends freeze on residential rezoning bids By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com
FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A baby ate Cheerios from her mother’s hand April 28 as the Forsyth County Commission weighed whether to extend a housing moratorium that the mother said is making her dip into savings to cover household expenses. Citing a need to continue revising land-use codes, commissioners unanimously approved a 180-day extension prohibiting the acceptance of rezoning applications during a special-called meeting. The extension applies to all residential zonings except for Residential 1, Mixed-Use Residential and Mixed-Use Commercial District. The extension will expire Oct. 25. Holding her infant in a baby carrier, the mother spoke against the measure, saying the freeze has prevented her from selling a Forsyth County property. A rezoning of the land would allow her to sell it for its full market value, she said. “I’ve depleted every savings account I’ve built over the past 10 years, and this could change my life,” she said. “It’s just really hard to keep waiting and waiting and waiting, borrowing from our future to do so.”
