DeKalb Schools makes changes to closure listing By JIM BASS jim@appenmedia.com DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County School District has made major changes to the previous school closure list, including new closures, a potential Clarkston High School modernization and shifts across the district. In this scenario, DeKalb School of the Arts, Kittredge Magnet School, DeKalb Arts Academy, Wadsworth Magnet School, Elizabeth Andrews High School and DeKalb Early College Academy would all be moved elsewhere. The announcement went into specifics for each cluster, outlining possible grade-band changes and alternative uses for the closed buildings. Full maps, explanations, and when each construction project will take place are all listed on the district’s website. According to a press conference held following the news release, 11 new capital improvement projects would be started, with 10 of those being south of US-78. The proposal is not final and may change based on feedback until a final decision is made in late fall. A crowd of more than 100 people, including community and business leaders, attended the annual address at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia. The event was presented by the

Greater Perimeter Chamber. “Last year, I told you that the state of Dunwoody was great, that we were growing, thriving and progressing, and that is absolutely still true today,” Deutsch said. “But this success is not accidental. It’s the result of intentional choices that we’re making through policy, planning and investment for a community that refuses to stand still.” Public safety was a priority when Dunwoody was incorporated in 2008 and remains a priority today, Deutsch said. more than 21 percent in 2025 compared to 2024, according to department data. Deutsch said lower crime rates are in part due to partnerships with the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts and local businesses to invest in crime-fighting technology. The City Council continues to ensure the Police Department is well funded, the mayor said. The department has received nine raises since she became mayor in 2020.
