Dunwoody keeps property tax rate at current levels

City’s homesteaded properties should experience no increase DUNWOODY, Ga. — The City of Dunwoody announced June 13 its tax levy on property will remain the same as last year, 3.04 mills. Even so, some residents and commercial property owners who cannot claim a homestead exemption may pay more in taxes this year because their properties have increased in value. Because of overall higher values reflected in DeKalb County’s reassessments of property, state law requires the city notify residents of a 5.81 percent increase in property taxes. That’s despite the fact the city has included a 1-mill reduction in the levy for those qualifying for a homestead exemption, which essentially lowers their tax rate to 2.04 mills. A tax rate of 1 mill represents a tax liability of $1 per $1,000 of assessed value on property. The city will also continue to freeze assessed values for those same properties.
