The teacher then asks what he ate yesterday. The boy replies, “I only eat on Saturday, and my brother eats on Sunday.”
That young boy’s story - and the stories of so many other children in need - is what inspired the creation of
Backpack Buddies of Metro Atlanta.
Four years and over 1.5 million meals later, the young nonprofit has captured the hearts and minds of the community, while aiming to eliminate weekend hunger for Atlanta’s food-insecure children.
“This mission cannot exist without the support of the community,” says Board Chair Ron Kirschner. “Together, we are putting these children in a better position to reach their full potential, which is exactly what the world needs. Mount Vernon Towers is an Active 55+ independent living condominium community where residents enjoy the benefits of private homeownership supported by a professional, on-site staff. Last year, I highlighted what to do if you are injured in a car wreck. This year, I wanted to explain two key types of insurance you need to have in place before anything happens. Oftentimes, people shop for car insurance based on the price rather than on the type of protection provided. We have cases where someone is severely injured or even killed, but the other driver has a $25,000 “minimum limits” policy and the client does not have coverage that protects them when
this happens. Here are two types of insurance that you need to protect yourself if someone else injures you in a wreck:
(1) Underinsured Motorist (“UM” or “UIM”) Coverage. This is insurance that protects you if the at-fault driver doesn’t have insurance or doesn’t have enough insurance.
There are two types of UM insurance: “Add-On” and “ReducedBy.” You always want to have “AddOn” insurance coverage because it goes on top of or adds to the at-fault driver’s insurance. I recommend that your UM coverage match your liability coverage, which is the insurance that protects you if you cause a wreck.
(2) Medical Payment Coverage (“Med-Pay”). This is insurance that covers medical bills if you are injured in a car wreck. If you have health insurance, this can be used to cover your co-pays, deductible, and co-insurance. I recommend that you have at least $10,000 in MedPay coverage.
