American Legion car show benefits veterans, families By JON WILCOX jon@appenmedia.com ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Woodstock resident and Navy veteran Juergen West’s nocturne blue 1963 Pontiac Catalina has a special place in his heart. Sitting in a lawn chair next to the vehicle Nov. 9, West spent the day at the American Legion Post 201’s eighth annual “cruz-in” car show, talking shop and answering questions about the classic car.

Veterans’ photos, names and branches were displayed on a big screen by the park pond, the peninsula decorated in American flags, as individuals were called to walk to their front row seats. The list included those in memory. Mayor Kurt Wilson

welcomed the small crowd with a city proclamation for Veterans Day following an invocation from Roswell Fire Chaplain Dorie Griggs, the Pledge of Allegiance and a presentation of colors by the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard, a group that dressed in historic garb. Wilson said Veterans Day is a day of “remembrance, gratitude and reflection.” “It’s a day we pause from our busy lives to honor the courageous individuals who step forward to defend our
