Apollo Art Auctions is delighted to start the year with our Ancient Jewellery and Beads sale. Apollo’s first antiquities sale of 2026 showcases a compilation of historically significant jewellery pieces, following a year marked by growing interest in precious metals as well as interest from the wider jewellery market. This remarkable auction brings together nearly 500 lots, including pieces crafted with gold, silver and other precious metals; as well as gems, jewellery and inlays. The auction spans over three millennia of history, ranging from the early Bronze Age to the Late Medieval Period and celebrates the intricate craftsmanship of ancient jewellery. Apollo is pleased to share that more than 70 of the jewellery pieces in this auction have been studied extensively by renowned jewellery historian Dr Jack Ogden. Ptolemaic to Roman Period, Ca. 1st century BC - 1st century AD

A collection of three mosaic glass fragmentary fish inlays, each composed of polychrome canes, including, from top to bottom: a large fish with a striped tail, green and yellow scales and a head with serrated teeth, the eyes are blue and framed by red and yellow; a long slender fish formed from yellow and brown canes; a shorter fish with blue and green body sections, the head with a circular eye in concentric colours. Provenance: Prince collection, 1990s-2014; Ex Christies, 26 Apr 2012, Lot 1; Previously in The Groppi Collection, Switzerland; acquired in the 1920s-1940s. 2. EGYPTIAN BICHROME GLAZED COMPOSITION BEADED BROAD COLLAR NECKLACE

First Intermediate Period, Ca. 2200 - 2055 BC A bichrome glazed composition beaded broad collar necklace formed from multiple registers of tubular beads arranged in rows, with bands of smaller spacer beads between. The lower edge is finished with a fringe of drop pendants. Curved terminal plaques secure the collar at either end, each fitted with a cord, one terminating in a finial composed of a rectangular beaded panel with a rounded endpiece and a fringe of flower-shaped pendants. 3. SET OF RARE HELLENISTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD HERAKLES KNOT APPLIQUÉS WITH GARNET CABOCHONS

Ca. 300 - 100 BC A superb set of six gold appliqués, each composed of paired lobes forming an eight shape. At the centre, an oval cabochon garnet in a high collet is set within a Herakles knot, enclosed by scrollwork and granulated detail. 10. HUGE ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING SET WITH A BANDED AGATE INTAGLIO OF THE IMPERIAL FAMILY

AD 300 A large gold ring with a thick hollow hoop tapered to the back, rising at the front to broad shoulders that merge into an expanded oval bezel enclosing a banded agate intaglio engraved with the imperial family. Within an internal border the scene shows a central frontal bust, above two confronting profile busts. At the outer edges, two standing draped figures hold shields and spears. AD 150 - 200 A rare and beautiful 23kt gold ring with a broad oval bezel engraved with the draped bust of Faustina the Younger in left profile, with finely modelled facial features and hair arranged in tight rows of curls swept back into a low chignon. The panels form rectangular frames with paired scrolls, the mount is set within braided borders and linked by rings. Ca. AD 1810 An exceptional 19th century high karat gold bracelet with a british setting composed of eleven oval intaglios. Each set in a narrow collet with a twisted wire border and joined by double chain links to form a flexible band. The intaglios are engraved with varied subjects, including a frontal head of Silenus, juxtaposed profiles of Zeus Ammon and Athena, a standing figure of Pan, a winged putto holding a cornucopia, and a horseman in motion. Ca. AD 1000 - 1200 A gold penannular bracelet with a solid rope-twisted hoop expanding to broad heart-shaped terminals. Each is formed as a slightly convex plaque bordered by a fine beaded wire and decorated on the upper face with scrolling filigree tendrils arranged in S-curves and volutes, interspersed with raised bosses, the reverse is left plain. The bezel is slightly raised above rounded shoulders that broaden from the hoop and bear small niello-filled motifs on the outer faces. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery.
