Apollo Art Auctions is delighted to present “Fine Ancient Jewellery & Beads – The Prince Collection” that opens on Saturday, 20th June 2026 at 1:00 p.m. BST.
We are delighted to present Fine Ancient Jewellery & Beads – The Prince Collection. Commencing on the 20th of June at 1:00 PM (BST), the sale will be held at the Apollo Art Auctions London showroom, 63–64 Margaret Street, W1W 8SW. Bidding is available in-room and online via the Apollo Art Auctions platform, as well as Invaluable, The Saleroom, LiveAuctioneers and Interencheres.
The auction presents a distinguished assembly of ancient jewellery, including many pieces in wearable condition and a fine selection of engraved gemstones. Spanning from the prehistoric and early Bronze Age periods (c. 4000 BC) through to the Late Antique era (c. AD 600), encompassing prehistoric and pre-dynastic, Egyptian, Near Eastern; including the Neo-Assyrian Period, Greek, Hellenistic, Roman and early Byzantine cultures.
Notable provenances include the Foxwell Family Collection; the Leo Biaggi de Blasys (1906–1979) collection; the H. Cutting Collection; the Marc Rosenberg collection; the D. Ruskin Collection; and the renowned Prince Collection, which holds royal associations. Highlights of the sale include Lot 250, an Egyptian faience broad collar with leaves, petals and fruit; Lot 288, a rare Roman rock crystal and gold ring with an emperor’s bust; Lot 265 a stunning Hellenistic gold ring with carnelian intaglio of maritime nymph; Lot 276 a Hellenistic gold ring with Alexander the Great as Herakles.
Selected lots are accompanied by additional reports from Lisa Sartini, Egyptologist PhD of Chimera Heritage Consultants, and Alessandro Neri, an international cultural heritage expert based in Florence, as well as Art Loss Register confirmation letters. Further scholarly input includes pieces examined by Winifred George Lambert and Peter Van der Veen. A selection of jewellery in the sale was also authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery, with a number of objects subsequently published in a professional catalogue.

A broad faience collar composed as a crescent-shaped pectoral, with cobalt blue glazed rectangular terminals pierced to receive four bead strings. Each string is threaded with small annular and elongated tubular beads. The strands are linked transversely by polychrome pendants in the shape of leaves, floral petals, and fruits, arranged in vertical groups across the field. A rock crystal scarab with a domed back carved with an elaborated sema-tawy motif (the symbol of the unification of Egypt), and a flat underside engraved with plaited bands enclosing ankh signs. A gold ring with a twisted hoop and a swivel setting with beaded collars and wire bindings at the junctions. Mounted with a carnelian scarab carved with a schematic head, a broad thorax, and undivided elytra. The flat underside is engraved with a king as a bull trampling a fallen enemy depicted as a skeleton, with a hawk at the side and the throne name cartouche of the king above the bull’s back.

A matched pair of gold earrings, each formed as a tapering hoop wrapped with fine wire and terminating in a sculptural zoomorphic head with the horns curving backwards over the crown. The head is modelled with a squared muzzle, circular eyes, a broad ribbed collar, and applied ornamental details in filigree and granulation. A stone cylinder seal, drilled longitudinally and engraved with two erotic scenes divided by stylised trees. In one, a nude male stands behind a nude female depicted in three-quarter view, with her right arm raised. In the other, a nude female leans back before a nude male facing her.

A gold medallion of domed profile with a beaded outer border and a band of repeating roundels and arches enclosed by twisted wire bands. The centre is set with five garnets arranged as a quincunx, each within a ropework cell, with clusters of granules between. A sixth garnet is set below the suspension loop. The reverse is plain.
