We are pleased to announce Fine Ancient Jewellery & Beads - The Prince Collection. Commencing on the 11th of April at 1 pm BST the sale will be held at our central London showroom 63-64 Margaret Street W1W 8SW, with bidding in-room and online.
The auction holds a distinguished assembly of ancient jewellery and engraved gemstones, showcasing over two millennia of artistry ranging from the Mediterranean to Northern Europe.
Highlights include lot 37, an ancient Roman high-karat gold ring, set with a holographic intaglio of the god Apollo. Such rings exemplify the sophisticated craftsmanship of ancient Roman gem carving. Lot 26, a rare Ptolemaic carnelian intaglio depicting royal figures, set in a high-karat gold ring embodies the dynastic imagery and refined lapidary skill of Hellenistic Egypt. Lot 16 displays the prestige of elite society in Iron Age Europe through Celtic jewellery. This high-karat gold, ribbed torc served as an emblem of status and authority, worn by a woman or man of high power.
The auction also benefits from an exceptional selection of notable provenances including the Prince Collection, distinguished by its royal associations. Other important names include, Elaine Lustig Cohen and Mrs B. Ellison from the Egyptian Exploration Fund.

2.RARE EGYPTIAN HIGH KARAT GOLD HEAD OF BES PENDANT

A gold pendant of the head of the god Bes, with a broad face framed by a stylised beard and prominent, rounded ears. The eyes are deeply set beneath arched brows, the nose is wide, and the mouth is slightly open with a protruding tongue. The forehead is decorated with a crisscross pattern and the head is crowned with a headdress consisting of five long feathers. The back is plain with a single rectangular loop for suspension. 5. HUGE EGYPTIAN BLACK STONE HEART SCARAB WITH HIEROGLYPHIC INSCRIPTION
New Kingdom, Ca. 1550 - 1069 BC.

A black stone heart scarab carved with a small head, the prothorax divided from the elytra by a transverse ridge, the wing cases divided by a central line. The flat underside is engraved with a hieroglyphic inscription in six horizontal registers. The inscription begins with a quotation from Chapter 30B, reading: “(He says:–) My ib-heart, (my) ib-heart of (my) mother. (My)haty-heart of (my) transformations ..., etc.” The name and title of the owner is mentioned towards the end, suggesting that he was a scribe at a local shrine of a male deity. A circular gold plaque with a recessed central field bordered by a flat rim, incised with fine hatching along its edge. The cavetto is plain and smooth, with a detailed design at the base of the recess depicting the Eye of Horus in the centre. The design features symmetrical cells housing inlays, predominantly in shades of blue, turquoise, and white or cream. The back is fitted with suspension loops. Comes with a presentation box.

A matched pair of gold earrings, each with a winged sphinx seated on a rectangular plinth with a frieze of tongues. The creature is modelled with a female head, the body adorned with coiled wire ornaments and fitted at the flanks with circular cells for insets, with a wing rising behind the back. The head of each sphinx is surmounted by a circular plate centred on a garnet cabochon within a ribbed border, and above a teardrop-shaped garnet in a serrated case ending in a loop.
