MCCALLUM’SMEMO

As Northland’s MP, I want to update you on the two major RMA reform bills currently before Parliament the PlanningBill and the NaturalEnvironment Bill Together, they represent some of the most important legislation this Government will pass, finally replacing the outdated Resource Management Act with a system that is clearer more consistent and far more practical for communities, councils, and businesses

The Planning Bill focuses on enabling things to get done simplifying consents, reducing delays, and cutting back the red tape that has frustrated people for years Alongside it, the Natural Environment Bill provides the guardrails by setting national limits for air, water, soil, and biodiversity Separating these responsibilities brings much-needed clarity after decades of confusion where environmental protection and land-use rules were lumped together

For farmers, developers, and local families, this means certainty and rules that stay steady, regardless of who is in government

I’ve spent a lot of time with rural families who are worried about the cost and stress of simply trying to continue long-standing, responsible farming practices

These reforms are about restoring confidence so people can plan ahead, invest, and know the ground isn’t going to shift beneath them By 2029, the full system will be in place, delivering consistency nationwide and better outcomes for both prosperity and the environment

With submissions now closed, the Environment Committee will soon begin hearings As deputy chair, I’m looking forward to working through that feedback to ensure the system works for communities, for business, for farmers, and for the environment

Visitors can once again look forward to a packed programme of entertainment and competitions Crowd favourites such as the tractor pull and lawnmower racing will deliver plenty of excitement, while the everpopular tractor skills compet will run across all three days

This interactive challenge gives farmers and machinery enthusiasts the opportunity to test-drive tractors through specially designed obstacle courses and showcase their handling skills

For motorsport fans, the motocross competition, run by the Dargaville Motocross Club, will take place on Frida and Saturday, promising high-energy action Meanwhile the Kauri Coast 4WD Club brings back the four-wheel-drive competition with a brand-new purpose-built track, where

drivers can push both vehicle and skill to the limit

Beyond the machinery, technology and industry showcases the Northland Field Days have become a true family ation It’s a place ere parents, kids and randparents alike can enjoy a relaxed and entertaining day out With over 400 exhibitors, visitors can explore everything from rural equipment and lifestyle products to home, garden and shopping inspiration –aking it a fantastic day or all ages

Food lovers are also in for a treat

That legacy continues today, grounded in the same principles the company was built on: quality products, straight-up advice, and a genuine commitment to helping farmers achieve better soil health and stronger farm performance

As Avoca heads to the Northland Field Days 2026, the team is inviting both long-time customers and curious new faces to come and talk about the thing they care most about - your land, your goals, and what you want to grow this year

Proudlylocal, purposefullypractical Avoca’s story has always been about backing farmers with the products and support that make a measurable difference Their range of premium lime, fertilisers, crop nutrients, and pasture solutions is selected and blended with your region, your soil, and your farming system in mind

And because no two paddocks - or farmers - are the same, Avoca’s process starts with a simple but powerful approach: listen first, recommend second

Their soil specialist consultants are out in the field every day working alongside farmers to understand what’s happening underfoot

Whether you ’ re looking to correct soil pH with premium lime, optimise nutrient levels with the right fertiliser blend, or plan long-term soil fertility, Avoca’s advice is backed by decades of experience and a deep understanding of local conditions

Anewgeneration,newthinking

Across Northland, a generational shift is reshaping our rural landscape The next generation are now stepping into leadership roles - sons and daughters ready to take on the family legacy with fresh ideas and a curiosity that sparks new questions

Avoca welcomes that

In fact, they’ve built their business on it

Today’s conversations are less about how things have always been done and more about why things work, how to lift performance, and what’s possible when soil health gets the attention it deserves Younger farmers want to know what’s happening in the difficult paddocks and how to understand how to use premium lime and fertiliser more effectively

That’s where Avoca’s team thrive: “What are your priorities for your farm this year and into the future? What are the problem areas we can help you troubleshoot? What have you been thinking about doing differently?”

These questions open the door to better farming decisions - ones driven by good science, local knowledge, and practical experience

Throughout the Northland Field Days, Avocas team will be on site and ready to talk through anything on your mind - your soil test results, those stubborn paddocks, nutrient planning for the season ahead, or products you ’ re curious about

Whether youve worked with Avoca for years or you ’ re just starting to look at how premium lime and fertiliser choices affect your farm they’d love you to stop by

Because for Avoca, it’s not just about products in a spreader - it’s about helping farmers grow sustainable, healthier, more productive land for generations to come
