Emma & Joey a vineyard celebration through Hato Hone St John, where both Emma and Joey work as registered paramedics. The couple’s love story began in 2018 when Joey moved from Christchurch to Hawke’s Bay for a new paramedic role. When Emma and Joey Clapperton began planning their wedding, there was one thing they knew for certain: it had to reflect their shared love of wine and the Hawke’s Bay landscape.

Guests enjoyed a menu created by Little Blackbird Catering, beginning with canapés before a shared-style seated dinner featuring roast scotch fillet, spatchcock chicken and seasonal sides. Dessert included chocolate truffles, meringues and berry cream. The wedding cake, made by family friend Lana, featured carrot cake and gluten-free lemon layers. Among the day’s highlights was the couple’s first look, along with the involvement of their beloved Labrador, Maia. “Our world revolves around her,” they say. “Being able to have her at the ceremony meant everything to us.” Although they organised much of the wedding themselves, Emma and Joey credit family, friends and vendors for helping bring their vision to life. Their advice for other couples? Accept help when it’s offered, stay focused on what matters most, and make time for each other during the day. “It’s very easy to get caught up seeing all your guests,” Joey says. “Stay together and make the most of that time.” For Emma and Joey, celebrating among the vineyards, surrounded by loved ones, created memories they will treasure forever.

Months of planning are over in a heartbeat, and so many meaningful moments happen without you even realising. It’s often only when couples receive their gallery that they see everything they missed – a proud parent’s expression, friends laughing together, a quiet hand squeeze before the ceremony, or the way they looked at each other when no one else was watching. That’s why choosing your photographer is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make. Choose someone whose work feels like you. Wedding photography has never been more diverse. Whether you love timeless elegance, relaxed documentary storytelling or modern editorial images, choose someone whose work makes you think, “That’s exactly how I want to remember our day.” Look beyond Instagram.
