SportHawke’sBayregularlyconnectwithDavid topassonReplayhockeyequipmentwhichhas beendonatedfromfamiliesinourregion.This equipment,anduniforms,aregratefullyreceivedby thestudents.
Inaddition,thereareseveralorganisationswho havedonatedhockeygearorhelpedfinancially includingHawkesBayHockey,CentralHockey Club,BayIndependentHockeyClub,StAndrews Waipukurau,WaipukurauRotaryClubplusmany individualsandfamilies.
Davidandhisteamnotonlyfocusonhockey training.Onthelasttripin2025theyhelpedtobuild anewwellforthecommunityandachookhousefor babychickswasalsobuilt.


DavidhastravelledtoUgandaeighttimes,and he’llbereturninginMay2026withateamof11from NewZealand(threeteammembersarefromCHB).
David’sworkdoesn’tendinUganda.BackinNew Zealand,heregularlyspeaksatmissionevents andcommunitygatherings,sharingstoriesand encouragingotherstosupportFountainofPeace. Hisabilitytobridgeexperiencesbetweencountries helpspeopleheretrulyunderstandtheimpacttheir generositycanmake.
FountainofPeaceworksinaregionwherepoverty hasleftdeepscars,especiallyforchildrenleft withoutfamily.Today,thankstotheorganisation’s familyhomes,educationsupport,healthcare outreach,andsustainableprojects,manyofthese childrenfinallyhavestability-andareasontohope.

Theevent,partofthenationwideFMGYoung FarmeroftheYearcontestseries,broughttogether primary-agedstudentsfromacrosstheregionto tacklehandsonfarmingchallengesdesignedtotest teamwork,problemsolvingandruralknowhow. TikokinoSchool,afamiliarnameinrural competitions,deliveredanimpressiveperformance andplacedfirst.Knownforitscloseknitrural communityandhandsonlearningculture,the school’steamapproachedthecompetitionwith determinationandgrit.Whethertheywereproblem solvingtheirwaythroughatechnicalfarmskillstask ortestingtheiragricultureknowledgeinmodule basedquizzes,Tikokino’sstudentsworkedwitha maturitybeyondtheiryears.Theirabilitytobreak downchallengesmethodicallymadethemfierce contendersthroughouttheevent.

Allstudentsareexpectedtoworkforaminimumof5hoursatarateof$10.00/hour forSeniors&$8.00/hourforJuniors.Whileweacknowledgethatsomestudentswork fortheirparents/guardians,weencouragestudentstoseekworkawayfromhome sothatWorkdaydoublesasaworkexplorationexperienceaswellasafundraising opportunity.
