hile other schools host acquaintance parties, Oton National High School takes pride in its annual intramural meet. It may not be as grand as those held in private universities in the city, but it revives a tradition deeply woven into the fabric of school life. Every year, this event shapes the identity of each student. The parade of athletes, clubs, students, teachers, and even stakeholders led by the execoms who worked hard for this revival– marks the beginning of a celebration rooted in unity and spirit. The roaring cheers from different curriculums and the thrill of competition are not mere spectacles; they are customs that nurture identity and belonging. Intramurals also provide a break for both students and teachers from academic pressure and stress. More than just games, they mirror our collective spirit. In fact, a study shows that 68% of students consider intramurals a bridge that connects them to the school, building stronger relationships. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization highlights how regular physical activity reduces stress–proving that the benefits of these games and field demonstrations extend to mental well-being. Tradition seems ordinary to some, but it’s a powerful way of connecting generations. Alumni who stand on the sidelines recall their own victories and defeats with the same energy the students bring to the field. This continuity builds a sense of belonging, reminding everyone that they are part of the same story. When the speaker of closing remarks ended his speech. When the final whistle blows. When the declaration of winners and acceptance of defeat, what endures is not just the outcomes of the games but the tradition itself that cements the spirit of unity that defines us all.
