Most days, it’s impossible to keep up with all things new – popular hashtags, trending fashions, the latest gossip, changing infrastructure, breaking news – things evolve on a day-to-day basis, if not minute-to-minute. The world moves quickly – and not just for us. Diving into the past, present and potential future of natural history, this brand-new series aims to connect viewers with species of all kinds, each experiencing their own drastic, life-altering changes on a planet that never stops spinning forward. In collaboration with Love Nature, ARTE and Passion Planet, the new, exploratory documentary series, “Evolution Earth,” makes its debut Wednesday, Sept. 6, on PBS.

Set to feature podcast-style narration, this five-part natural history

series is said to examine some incredible stories of adaptation and survival, set to illustrate rapid changes taking place around the world, and how every creature – big and small – adjusts, evolves and, in many cases, continues to thrive in the face of new obstacles. While shining a light on the worldwide impact of climate change, the series also promises to share hopeful tales of resiliency, illustrating nature’s ability to adapt to our quickly changing atmosphere.

Shot in some of the most extreme locations around the world, each feature-length episode will showcase a different landscape – first examining Earth as a whole ecosystem before diving into specific climates, including Islands, Ice, Heat and Grasslands.

A series ‘Reborn’: ‘The Wheel of Time’ returns for Season 2

Within the realm of the fantastic, several novels, movies, video games and series exist to tickle the adventure bone. However, despite the plethora of content, few franchises have the hold that Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and The Lord of the Rings do. One series that has recently re-entered the chat, however, is “The Wheel of Time,” which is about to begin its second season on Prime Video.

First written by Robert Jordan beginning in 1990, the 15-book series was expected to comprise just six novels. In 2009, the book series was taken over by fellow fantasy writing powerhouse Brandon Sanderson, following Jordan’s death two years earlier. As time progressed and more books emerged, fans of high fantasy craved a TV or film adaptation that would do the then-still-growing book series justice. Finally, in 2018, following nearly two decades of rights disputes, low-budget pilots and controversy, it was announced that Amazon Studios would partner with Sony Pictures Television to make everyone’s otherworldly dreams come true.

Now, following further setbacks brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and more, “The Wheel of Time” Season 2 premieres Friday, Sept. 1, on Prime Video.

Already renewed for a third season ahead of the Season 2 premiere, WOT fans can rest easy knowing that the series’ writers did not need to rush to fit several books’ worth of content into one (potentially) final set of episodes. Instead, audiences get another eight episodes in the second season, while looking forward to even more come Season 3 (likely to be released 2024-25).

When Season 1 began, viewers met Moiraine (Rosamund Pike, “Gone Girl,” 2014) as she began her quest to find the Dragon Reborn in the Two Rivers. As a member of the powerful Aes Sedai, an order of women with the ability to channel a form of elemental magic called the One Power, Moiraine has been called upon to find a kind of “chosen one,” the reincarnation of a channeller called the Dragon, who once destroyed the world. After gathering a small group — any of whom could possibly be the Dragon Reborn — Moiraine, her Warder, Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney, “Big Hero 6,” 2014), and the four new candidates — Perrin Aybara (Marcus Rutherford, “Bulletproof”), Mat Cauthon (played by “Clique’s” Barney Harris in Season 1 and replaced by “The Witcher’s” Dónal Finn in Season 2), Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski, “High Flyers”) and Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden, “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” 2019) — begin their quest to defeat a primordial evil known as the Dark One.

For the sake of brevity and avoiding as many spoilers as possible, suffice it to say that the first season did not end on a high note for Moiraine and her tribe of villagers. Despite the unveiling of the Dragon Reborn, a battle between the reincarnation and a villain presumed to be the Dark One only appeared to awaken a more sinister energy. Needless to say, a war is on the horizon headed into this new instalment.

“In Season [2], threats new and very old seek out the young friends from the Two Rivers, now scattered over the world,” the Prime Video description reads. “The woman who found and guided them is now powerless to help, and so they must find other sources of strength. In each other, or themselves. In the Light ... or the Dark.”

“Jerry Maguire” (1996): Actual football action is sparse in Cameron Crowe’s superb character study until the final stretch, but once Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) takes the field, it’s clear to see how much his performance in the game impacts sports agent Maguire (Tom Cruise).

“The Replacements” (2000): An extremely good-humored tone informs this comedy, featuring Gene Hackman as a coach brought back to a team to guide (you guessed it) replacements - including Keanu Reeves - during a players’ strike.

“Movie: Love at First Sight” (Sept. 15, Premiere) After missing her flight from New York to London, Hadley (Haley Lu Richardson) meets Oliver (Ben Hardy) in a chance encounter at the airport that sparks an instant connection. A long night on the plane together passes in the blink of an eye but upon landing at Heathrow, the pair are separated and finding each other in the chaos seems impossible. Will fate intervene to transform these seat mates into soul mates? Based on the novel “The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight” by Jennifer E. Smith, the film is written for the screen by Katie Lovejoy and directed by Vanessa Caswill.

The ever-fabulous Whitney Way Thore, 39, returns for the 11th year of “My Big Fat Fabulous Life” – this time, however, it’s life like never before, as Whitney must adjust to a difficult new reality in this upcoming season, premiering Tuesday, Sept. 5, on TLC. While the reality star’s bright and positive personality shines through each episode, Season 11 begins with a shock for Thore, who is seen in a recent trailer for the season reuniting with her family after the devastating loss of her mother – Barbara “Babs” Thore – who tragically died in December 2022 after battling cerebral amyloid angiopathy. Babs was 76 years old.

At the time, Thore shared information regarding her mother’s death on Instagram, describing the disease as “an untreatable progressive condition caused by proteins in the blood vessels of the brain that can cause dementia, seizures, or like in my mom’s case, brain bleeding (hemorrhagic strokes).”

The unexpected loss took a toll on all, as during the trailer, Whitney can be seen interacting with her father, Glenn, who is struggling to cope with the loss of his wife. “When I stand around this kitchen table, it just brings back all these memories with your mom,” he says.
