FAVO R I T E A B O U T AOS Strong academic instruction is central to the student experience at AOS, but it is not the extent of it. The combination of the curriculum and the supporting programs is what uniquely defines the AOS experience, unites the community, and develops empathetic, resilient, and confident students.

AGAPE Multiple times a week, middle school students come together in an assembly-like setting where they build fellowship and support each other’s personal interests and accomplishments. Each student is required to give a speech, and they spend the year honing their speech writing and public presentation skills.

COMMUNITY SERVICE Service projects provide our students with valuable life lessons that cannot always be taught in a classroom. Through these projects, students develop an understanding of Houston’s diverse cultures and communities and learn more about our city’s social issues and their root causes.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AOS prides itself on developing empathetic and confident individuals who mature into grounded and compassionate members of society. Leadership positions provide our students with the opportunity to practice servant-leadership and work together toward a common goal.

WELLNESS AND SOCIAL AND E M OT I O N A L L E A R N I N G Emotional intelligence is critical for lifelong happiness, successful careers, and healthy relationships. AOS is committed to supporting your children in developing the skills they need to achieve their full potential, not just academically but socially and emotionally as well. AOS has two, full-time counselors on staff — one for early childhood and lower school and one for middle school.

G R E E K O RT H O D OX Y A N D W E E K LY C H A P E L Greek Orthodox Christianity is our guiding practice. It teaches our children to remain true to their beliefs, respect all things and all beings, serve others, know they are loved, and feel grounded in themselves. This is exactly what we strive for at AOS, not only in the weekly religion classes or chapel services but also in every moment of every day.

CLASS TRIPS Beginning in 3rd grade, students participate in an annual class trip. From an overnight trip to the Houston Zoo to a week-long trek through Washington, D.C., these trips provide an experiential learning experience, allowing our students to engage more deeply with their curriculum. These trips also provide an important opportunity for students to deepen relationships with each other and their teachers.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY We value physical health and education as a core part of our mission. Through P.E., recess, or competing on a team, students develop sportsmanship, team spirit, and athletic excellence. AOS has a weekly Lap Day program that challenges students to achieve their own personal goals and to develop consistent work habits.

CHAPEL BUDDIES Through our Chapel Buddies program, our youngest students are partnered with our older students who act as a model of AOS behavior and demonstrate strong student leadership. Chapel Buddies attend chapel together each week.

P T C & DA D S C L U B AOS has a strong community with active, supportive parents who care deeply about the mission of the school. The AOS Parent-Teacher Club (PTC) and Dads Club are the coordinating bodies for many parent activities and special events.

SPECIAL EVENTS The community is what makes our school so extraordinary. Our special events create an opportunity for members of our community—student, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and alumni—to come together in fellowship.
