Delphi Session Options
Specialty Camp Descriptions Discovering Delphi Session 5: July 8-12 & Session 7: July 22-26 9:00am-12:00pm This is an exciting, new program just for our youngest campers! This is a great opportunity for our newest students to become more comfortable with the classroom and playground, participating in a daily routine, and carpool drop-off and pick-up. Join Mrs. Ramirez, one of our lead Delphi faculty members, in the Delphi classroom for a week-long adventure to explore the learning centers, participate in circle time, and meet new friends before the school year starts! Lego Engineering Session 5: July 8-12 12:30-3:30pm Through the use of Lego kits, students develop math and science skills and learn to build simple machines using gears, levers, and pulleys. Students will compete against one another to build the best design. Fine motor skills, critical thinking skills, imagination and confidence will increase in this fun-filled camp atmosphere. Junior Athletes Session 6: July 15-19 9:00am-12:00pm The Junior Athletes program is designed to allow students to experience a wide range of activities. Sports- based lessons (Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, Football, Tennis etc.) along with fun fitness activities (Obstacle Course, Bowling, Scooter boards, Relay races, Hula Hoops, etc) will be introduced. 6
Chef Zena’s Literary Cooking Adventure Session 6: July 15-19 12:30-3:30pm Chef Zena from Sage Dining will be teaching cooking at camp this summer! This camp is specifically designed with our youngest campers in mind. Chef Zena has picked out her favorite pieces of children’s literature to bring to life in the kitchen. For example, after reading Green Eggs and Ham, campers will then cook their own green eggs and ham. This camp is sure to be a hoot! Put on your apron and chef hat for this fun camp! Gymnastics Session 7: July 22-26 12:30-3:30pm Gymnastics Camp for Delphi/Pre-K is here! In this camp, students will participate in games & balance challenges to improve core strength and basic motor skills. Your child will also be introduced to basic tumbling skills through age-appropriate progressions.

Specialty Camp Descriptions Yoga Session 3: June 17-21 9:00am-12:00pm Students will participate in playful poses, yoga games, and storytelling through yoga. This Yoga camp will assist students in developing physical awareness, coordination and flexibility. We encourage muscle strengthening while developing muscles in a non-competitive and nurturing environment. Yoga also enhances self-awareness, body control, imagination, empathy, self-discipline, focus, attention span, and self-esteem. Participation in Yoga can aid in decreased anxiety while soothing emotional and physiological stress and frustration. Through our unique approach to Yoga, children will have the benefit of an active and fun class balanced with calmness and relaxation in a child friendly environment. Self Expression Learning Fundamentals (S.E.L.F) Session 4: June 24-28 9:00am-12:00pm

Tennis Session 5: July 8-12 12:30-3:30pm Come serve it up with TGA Premier Youth Tennis at AOS! TGA is an introductory program that has partnered with the United States Tennis Association to create a fun and innovative tennis program for your child. TGA’s 5 level curriculum includes games, drills and physical fitness activities that improve motor skills, agility and hand-eye coordination. Every TGA class focuses on academic concepts developed by educational experts, the rules and etiquette of tennis and skill development. TGA brings all of the equipment, training materials and a 10:1 student to instructor ratio to allow for plenty of individual attention. Our goal is to not only develop our student’s tennis skills, but to give children the building blocks for future achievement on the tennis court and in life. Specialty Camp Descriptions Creative Writing Camp Sessions 1-2: June 3-14 (two-week course) 8:00am*-12:00pm *starts earlier than other camps Annunciation Orthodox School is a proud host of the 29th annual Creative Writing Camp, sponsored by Writers in the Schools and Rice University’s School of Literacy and Culture. This widely popular camp provides a unique setting in which children can learn the power of words, gain practice in self expression, and expand their creativity. Hesitant writers bloom in this supportive environment as they experience different ways of writing and develop the confidence to think of themselves as writers. Children who already see themselves as authors develop new skills, stretch their creativity, and enjoy inspiration and mentoring from professional writers.
Tennis Session 1: June 3-7 12:30-3:30pm

Our Tennis Program allows students to learn to volley at their own pace with an instructor and friends. With courts and equipment modified to fit them, they can learn easier and with more success. The students will be practicing forehand and backhand strokes, serving, and net shots. Our classes are a fun way to learn the game by hitting lots of balls and learning to cover the court while improving hand-eye coordination. 11

Idea Lab: Physics of Roller Coaster Design Session 5: July 8-12 9:00am-12:00pm Use the power of physics to experiment with your own roller coasters. Build a conceptual roller coaster using physics concepts used in real roller coaster design. Challenges will include: creating multiple loops, speediest coaster, the height of hills and many more. We will learn all about the laws of physics in this class. Art Session 5: July 8-July 12 9:00am-12:00pm This fine art class is taught by Ms. Janis Fowles, a multi-talented artist trained by the Kennedy Center to teach art. She has been involved in the summer art programming at AOS for the last 12 years. She has had her art work in numerous shows include the recent Art Walk, and she loves the creative process. Students in this class will explore different art mediums as they learn to love the creative process, too!

His classes promote confidence, a positive self-image, and discipline. A little bit of 3D printing magic will allow these entrepreneurs to mix technology in bringing their concepts to life.

Authentically Me! Session 2: June 10-14 9:00am-12:00pm The path to resiliency is paved in emotional intelligence! Emotional and behavioral self-regulation contributes to young children’s growing independence. Through art, games, and exercises, children will practice coping skills, mindfulness, emotional regulation, positive self-talk, and how to assert themselves in a healthy manner. Mental wellness meets fun with Mrs. Ruba Afifi, a mental health professional who has over 14 years of experience working with AOS students in the after school and summer program. Basketball Session 2: June 10-14 12:30-3:30pm Session 3: June 17-21 9:00am-12:00pm Join your friends on the court this summer! The camp day will consist of drills, instruction, and full-court games as students learn offensive and defensive strategies as well as the traditional aspects of the game, including position rotation. Hip Hop Session 3: June 17-21 9:00am-12:00pm In this dance class, students will learn choreography with a fun and playful flair to popular, new music. This high-energy dance experience promotes a healthy form of self-expression and physical coordination while having fun with friends. Hip-hop distinguishes itself from other forms of dance by being "freestyle" (improvisational) in nature, which is a great outlet for excess energy.

Intermediate's Chess Session 4: June 24-28 12:30-3:30pm Intermediate's Chess is designed for students familiar with chess that wish to improve their game to a comparable tournament level. Opening, Middle game, Endgame, and tactics will be the focus of this camp. Upon completing a week of Game Think Chess Camp, each camper will receive a certificate of completion and a medal, proving they are a Chess Master in the making! (If a student does not have an absolute grasp on piece movement and castling, the Beginners Camp will better prepare them.)

A little bit of 3D printing magic will allow these entrepreneurs to mix technology in bringing their concepts to life Archery Session 6: July 15-19 12:30-3:30pm Archery is a sport that develops strong problem-solving skills, increases focus and determination, teaches goal setting, and builds confidence. Join our archery coaches on the AOS archery range to learn this traditional summer camp skill! Campers will help decide which service projects the camp will participate in. Come do your part while having a blast with friends! (This camp takes place on AOS campus. This is not a traveling camp. Volleyball Session 7: July 22-26 9:00am-12:00pm This fun and exciting indoor sport for boys and girls combines skill development with learning to work as a team. Campers will learn the fundamentals of serving, passing, setting and attacking and then use those skills in match-play. We will emphasize good sportsmanship to teammates and opponents as well as to have a healthy respect for the outcome of competition. 20
Drama Session 7: July 22-26 12:30-3:30pm Drama camp offers a group experience rich in creative theatrical exploration. Campers will explore everything from improvisation games, to character building, scene making, informal presentations, and performance scripts. We cover the full spectrum of imaginative, inventive, and dramatic fun.
Golf Session 7: July 22-26 12:30-3:30pm TGA Premier Junior Golf brings the golf course to AOS! Our national, award winning, 5 level program is specially designed for children and builds upon the educational concepts they are learning in the classroom including math and science. Fun comes first in every TGA class, but our curriculum also focuses on improving motor skills and physical fitness as well as instilling self confidence and life values through professional golf instruction. Students learn the fundamentals, etiquette and rules of the game in the comfortable environment of your school campus with a low 10:1 student to professional instructor ratio. Best of all, we provide all the equipment and training materials so children of all skill levels have the chance to come out and tee it up with TGA!

Rice University School Mathematics Project (RUSMP) Sessions 1-2: June 3-14 (two-week course) 12:30-3:30pm RUSMP is offering a two-week summer math camp at Annunciation Orthodox School for students entering 2nd through 6th grade. This camp will engage students in fun, hands-on mathematics investigations and games with connections to science, technology, engineering, and the visual arts. Students will leave energized and enthusiastic about mathematics and the other STEAM disciplines. The cost is $550 per student. Intermediate's Chess Session 4: June 24-28 12:30-3:30pm Intermediate's Chess is designed for students familiar with chess that wish to improve their game to a comparable tournament level. Idea Lab: Physics of Roller Coaster Design Session 5: July 8-12 9:00am-12:00pm Use the power of physics to experiment with your own roller coasters. Build a conceptual roller coaster using physics concepts used in real roller coaster design. Challenges will include: creating multiple loops, speediest coaster, the height of hills and many more. We will learn all about the laws of physics in this class.

Emotional and behavioral self-regulation contributes to young children’s growing independence. Mental wellness meets fun with Mrs. Ruba Afifi, a mental health professional who has over 14 years of experience working with AOS students in the after school and summer program. Ceramics Sessions 1-2: June 3-14 (two week course) 9:00am-12:00pm Students work on several projects during this two-week camp. All parts of the process will be involved including preparing the clay with proper moisture, wedging, drying, firing, and glazing the clay. Students will get multiple opportunities to throw a pot on the pottery wheels and work on several hand-building projects. Because of firing times, some projects will need to be picked up after the end of camp. Come join us in the ceramics studio this June! Mindfulness & Yoga Session 2: June 10-14 12:30-3:30pm Alexia Sitaras is a Houston-based fitness instructor and yoga teacher who loves using the power of breath and movement to inspire increased strength, confidence, and focus from the inside-out. She has been passionate about health and fitness for many years but discovered her heart for teaching while working as a corporate health and fitness intern in her last semester at Texas A&M University. As key components in maintaining a healthy lifestyle include retaining a thirst for new knowledge, openness to the unknown, and constant practice, learning from her clients is her favorite part of teaching. Building relationships with each unique individual and guiding them through their journey provides invaluable opportunities for distinct growth, and allows her to serve her community more deeply. Alexia encourages fun, personality, and spunk in her classes because the privilege to move should serve as a gift to enjoy life to the fullest! Idea Lab: Drone Engineering with 3D Printing Session 3: June 17-21 9:00am-12:00pm Learn how to build a complete, fully functional remote controlled quadcopter which flies and takes aerial photos. Students will create their own 3D model frame by putting together the electronic components for piloting their customized drone. Additional Drone kit cost $50.

Idea Lab: Engineering Smart Home Design with Arduino Session 4: June 24-28 12:30-3:30pm Do you want to make a smart home? Learn how to design cool, practical pieces of technology with Arduino. Using Arduino circuit kits, campers will learn all about engineering principles. Campers will then use these Arduino components to design cool gadgets for their smart home. Welcome to the future! Idea Lab: Robotics: EV3 Design Dynamos Session 5: July 8-12 9:00am-12:00pm Allow your imagination and designs to take physical form in AOS Robotics Summer Camp. Choose from over 15 base EV3 Mindstorms robots to build and code for an assortment of challenges. Coding not your thing? We have IR Sensors, Beacons, and remotes to control and command the robot of your choice. Step by step not your thing? Take the challenge of designing your own robot model with your team. Join us for battles, races, obstacle courses and inspiration to push your designs to the next level.

Video Game Programming Session 5: July 8-12 12:30-3:30pm In this game maker intro class, students will learn the basics of video game programming, including character movement, shooting, reactionary code, multiple levels, music, sound effects, boss fights, and MORE! Each student must possess basic computer skills, typing, cutting, pasting, and the ability to navigate files on a computer.
Art Session 6: July 15-19 9:00am-12:00pm This fine art class is taught by Ms. Janis Fowles, a multi-talented artist trained by the Kennedy Center to teach art. She has been involved in the summer art programming at AOS for the last 12 years. She has had her art work in numerous shows include the recent Art Walk, and she loves the creative process. Students in this class will explore different art mediums as they learn to love the creative process, too!
Parkour Session 6: July 15-19 9:00am-12:00pm Urban Movement brings Parkour to AOS! Parkour is the activity or sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment and negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing. Parkour is a great way for kids to focus their energy in a fun and practical way, in a safe environment all while making new friends. They’ll move their body in new ways and be shown that they’re capable of more than they ever thought possible!
Robotics: Project Prototype Session 6: July 15-19 12:30-3:30pm Let's do sensational things with Lego Power Functions and Mindstorms! Behind every robot is a builder that makes the leap from design to blueprint to prototype. Learn about the math and science behind what gives robots the speed to get up and go, and the torque to dominate the competition. We will be solving robotic puzzles and FLL (First Lego League) challenges crammed with obstacles, coding chaos and battles, and all the technology you will need to succeed.

Fencing gives kids the opportunity to play engage their best sword-wielding fantasies in a safe setting while learning valuable physical and mental skills. Our fast-paced programs are fun and inviting for both beginners and experienced swordsmen. At Houston Sword Sports we want to share the safe and exciting sport of fencing with the people of Houston. Meet new friends, challenge your mind, and get some exercise. Our camps teach fundamental fencing skills through games and other activities.
