WELCOME TO EXTENDED DAY! DEAR AOS FAMILIES, Welcome to Extended Day! The Extended Day umbrella includes a multitude of activities such as: • • • • • • •

All of these programs are available for registration in one place, the Extended Day Registration Website (aoshouston.campbrainregistration.com). Extended Day programming is designed to serve both parents and students by providing opportunities for students to engage in a wide variety of interests while also building and strengthening relationships. GENERAL INFORMATION REGISTRATION Registration for these programs is now divided into two semesters (fall and spring) except for music clubs, academic clubs, private music lessons, UCAL, and athletic training camps. The Fall semester runs from August through December. The Spring semester runs from January through May. EXTENDED DAY CARE MONDAY - FRIDAY
DROP-INS
Extended Day Care (EDC) is available Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on certain holidays. Parents may register for only morning-care, only aftercare, or for both morning and after-care. Registration options are available for as little as one day a week and as many as five days a week. The prices listed below are for the spring semester (January-May). Upon registration, you will have the option of paying the entire semester at once or selecting a monthly payment plan.
Drop-ins are available to accommodate singular-event schedule changes. Parents can choose between three options: morning drop-in from 7:00-7:30 AM, afternoon drop-in until 4:30 PM, or afternoon drop-in until 6:00 PM. Drop-ins can be scheduled up to two weeks in advance through the Extended Day Registration System.

SPRING HOLIDAY CARE PACKAGE Parents needing childcare during school holidays, early dismissals, and conference days should register for the Spring Holiday Care Package. The Spring Holiday Care Package includes President’s Day, early dismissal for Orthodox Holy Wednesday, early dismissal for the last day of school, and one conference day. Cost: $240

Join Mrs. Wise in the art studio for this exciting crafting class. Students experiment with non-traditional art materials and techniques such as poured paint, alcohol inks, paper mache, recycled material creations, polymer clay, etc. This class is the place to try all those cool projects we see online! Come experiment and get creative with Craftopia this semester!
DRAMA (KINDERGARTEN) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Kiki Przewlocki Cost: $340/semester After-school Drama offers a group experience rich in creative, theatrical exploration. Students experience a spectrum of imaginative and inventive dramatic fun including improvisation games, scene-making, informal presentations, and performance scripts.
IDEA LAB: MOVIE STUDIO: INTRO TO FILM MAKING/SPECIAL EFFECTS & GREEN SCREEN TECHNOLOGY (GRADES 2-4) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Idea Lab Cost: $340/semester In this Idea Lab, students are introduced to the vast world of film-making. Students learn about all that goes into film-making from script writing to mood and lighting and so much more. Special effects are a world of their own! In the second half of this course, students learn all about how to use special effects and special effects makeup to make their wildest ideas come to life in a short film. Students will also explore the usage of a green screen and how it can enhance films!
After-school Lego is for students who love being creative and who have fun building with Lego pieces. Lego activities will range in scope and include several STEM-related explorations such as building Lego zip-lines, constructing Lego Erupting volcanoes, building Lego skyscrapers, and launching Lego hot air balloons. The students will also be exposed to the use of robotics using the WeDo app.
LITTLE GENIUSES CHESS (PK-K) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: The Knight School Cost: $384/semester Little Geniuses is a chess-song singing, laughing, chess-tourney, dancing, chess clock-slapping, zany chess video, puppet show introduction to chess and being the smart kid in class. Little Geniuses puts on a high-energy, 60-minute chess practice in which kids play chess for Mardi Gras beads, compete weekly for one of 27 brightly-colored silicone wristbands, and look forward each week to our 22 daily activities. At this crucial and developmentally formative preschool stage, we aim to delightfully impart to every one of our Little Geniuses a self-identity as a very smart person!

TUESDAY IDEA LAB: MOVIE STUDIO: CINEMATOGRAPHY & SPECIAL EFFECTS (GRADES 5-8) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Idea Lab Cost: $340/semester In this Idea Lab, students learn about the many different components of cinematography! In this overview cinematography class, students study each component individually, from character development to set design and so much more. In the second half of this course, students create a short film and learn how to add digital special effects, computer-generated imagery (CGI), and time-lapses.
IDEA LAB: ROBOTICS: ARE YOU A ROBOT? & ROBOTIC CREATURES (K-GRADE 1) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Idea Lab Cost: $340/semester In this Idea Lab, students learn about the basic building blocks of human anatomy and how that relates to building a robot. From muscles to senses, students learn how sensors allow robots to maneuver and explore the basic functions of a robot brain! In the second half of this course, students build their very own robot. Come and make a new best friend in this robot-filled class!

The purpose of the class is to introduce students to a wide variety of possibilities in art and show how art can be more than simply drawing or painting. In the second half of this course, students will turn their focus to abstract art. Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent external reality, but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures. Students will explore unconventional mediums in order to create abstract art.
MAD ABOUT HOOPS (GRADES 1-4) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Clairessa Murla Cost: $340/semester In Mad About Hoops, students learn fun and impressive hula hoop tricks and choreography. Through skill development and game-play, students improve balance, stamina, and self-confidence. Classes are fun for boys and girls, and we provide all of the equipment needed for in-class use. Every student enrolled in Mad About Hoops will be invited to perform at a halftime show for a Houston Dynamo game in Spring 2020!

WEDNESDAY ARTOPIA (GRADES 1-2) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Amy Ailor (AOS Faculty) Cost: $350/semester In this class, students learn how to create 3D sculptures and use 3D qualities in collages. Students learn the painting techniques of Eric Carle to support their collage and sculpture projects. Found and recycled materials, as well as crafted and handmade papers, are incorporated in the class projects.

In the second half of this course, students will learn what goes into the retail business and create their own products to sell.
IDEA LAB: MOVIE STUDIO: STOP MOTION ANIMATION: THE FUTURE & DINOSAURS ALIVE (K- GRADE 1) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Idea Lab Cost: $340/semester
In this Idea Lab, students take a futuristic journey into the year 3000! How will they survive!? Are there flying cars? What about teleportation? Students make a fun, futuristic movie in this class. In the second half of this course, prehistoric dinosaurs come alive in this fun and exciting stop motion class. Students take a journey into prehistoric times and meet some very cool dinosaurs! They complete different obstacles and challenges and even watch a dinosaur hatchling grow up!

In the second half of this course, students learn how banks work and how to save, budget, and invest money. Students will explore the world of profit and loss in entrepreneurship. Students learn all about the ups and downs, the good and the ugly! Topics introduced include making profit and loss reports, forecasting upcoming quarter’s profit and loss, understanding supply and demand, balancing revenue and expenses... and much more!

THURSDAY CHESS (GRADES 1-4) Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Game Think Cost: $340/semester Game Think offers chess lessons to students of all skill levels and encourages fair and friendly play. On day one, overall is assessed, and students are placed into appropriate groups. Students learn chess fundamentals including piece movement, piece value, setting up the board, and basic algebraic notation. Students also learn basic checkmates, opening strategies, and tactics. Chess is a timeless and endlessly beneficial game for all ages. Learning chess at a young age has been proven to help improve focus, strategy, and critical thinking.

Students practice advanced techniques in drawing, watercolor, acrylic painting, and ceramic sculpture. This class is great for students who find art relaxing and fun.
IDEA LAB: ENTREPRENEURSHIP: INTERGALACTIC TRADE & HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS (GRADES 2-4)
Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Instructor: Idea Lab Cost: $340/semester In this Idea Lab, students create their very own planet and engage in intergalactic trade among their peers, while learning about supply, demand, and trading. In the second half of this course, students will learn the ins and outs about what it takes to run a business on a day-to-day basis.

Would you like to enhance your artistic skills? In this class, students refine their compositional and design skills using learned techniques to create watercolor and acrylic paintings. Projects reflect art history, imagination, and still life subject matter.

Our national, award winning, 5 level program is specially designed for children and builds upon the educational concepts they are learning in the classroom including math and science. Fun comes first in every TGA class, but our curriculum also focuses on improving motor skills and physical fitness as well as instilling self confidence and life values through professional golf instruction. Students learn the fundamentals, etiquette, and rules of the game in the comfortable environment of the AOS campus with a low 10:1 student to professional instructor ratio. Chorus members learn proper vocal technique, ear training, sight-singing, and performance skills. The repertoire is very diverse, ranging from classical to contemporary music. There are three major concerts each year: Christmas Concert (December), pARTnerschools Collaboration Concert (March/ April), and Spring Concert (May). Additionally, this year, the MS Chorus will perform at a Houston Dynamo game on September 11 at 7:30 PM. Other performing opportunities during the school year also include Grandparents Day, the Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, and Rice University basketball games.

WEDNESDAY ACADEMIC QUIZ BOWL TEAM (GRADES 5-8) Time: 7:00-7:50 AM & Lunchtime on Friday Instructors: Natalie McAfee (7th-8th) and Alicia McDonald (5th-6th) (AOS Faculty) Cost: Free Academic Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more. The defining feature of quiz bowl is the use of a “buzzer system” which allows players to interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. This club competes in several Houston-area competitions and sometimes in state or national competitions.

UCAL (PK-GRADE 6)
Cost: $200/season/sport The United Church Athletic League (UCAL) provides the opportunity for AOS students in PK-6th grade to participate in athletic teams throughout the school year. UCAL has three seasons: fall, winter, and spring.
FALL SEASON Soccer is available for all students in KindergartenGrade 6. Fall season practices begin in August and games run from September through the first week in November.
WINTER SEASON Basketball is available for all students in Grades 2-6. Winter season runs November-January.
SPRING SEASON Volleyball is available for all girls in Grades 4-6. Soccer is available for all students in PK-Grade 6. Spring season runs March-May.
UNITED CHURCH ATHLETIC LEAGUE
The UCAL registration fee includes a UCAL jersey, team photo, individual photo, and a participation trophy. UCAL teams are coached by parentvolunteers. All parent-volunteers are asked to attend a coaches’ meeting.
