YOUR VOICE IN TRENTON

CELEBRATE THE 250TH AT THE LIBRARY! Dear Old Bridge sider what it means to be part of a nation 2026 is the 250th anniversary of the off on your games passport to win a prize!

By Senator Owen Henry

Residents, On July 4th, 2026, our nation will mark a milestone that few countries in history have reached—the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. This moment invites us not only to celebrate, but to reflect on the extraordinary journey that brought us here. Two and a half centuries ago, a small group of determined colonists declared that freedom, equality, and self‑government were worth fighting for. Their courage sparked a revolution that reshaped the world and set in motion a story still being written today. That story is our story. It belongs to every generation that has worked, sacrificed, and dreamed to make this nation stronger. It belongs to the families who built our towns, the veterans who defended our liberties, the innovators who pushed boundaries, and the everyday citizens who keep our communities vibrant and resilient. As we approach this historic anniversary, I encourage each of us to pause and con-

founded on ideals rather than privilege. Our democracy has endured because ordinary people have always stepped forward—guided by hope, grounded in responsibility, and committed to one another. The Semiquincentennial is more than a celebration of the past, it is a call to action for the future. Let us use this moment to renew our dedication to civic engagement, to strengthen the bonds that unite us, and to ensure that the next 250 years reflect the very best of who we are. I am grateful to serve you during such a meaningful chapter in our nation’s history. May this anniversary inspire pride in our heritage, confidence in our shared purpose, and faith in the promise of America. With deepest respect and gratitude, Senator Owen Henry

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR REPORT

Summer is officially underway in Old Bridge Township, and residents have plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy everything our community has to offer. From major park improvements and recreational opportunities Anahita Feltz to significant investments Business in our athletic facilities Administrator and special America 250 celebrations, this summer is shaping up to be one of the most exciting yet. Our Summer Camp programs are in full swing, with both full-day and halfday sessions keeping children active, engaged, and connected throughout the season. Families can also take advantage of several recently completed park improvements across the Township. At Veterans Park and Lower Geick Park, newly renovated baseball fields are now open and ready for play, providing upgraded facilities for our athletes, leagues, and community events. Tennis enthusiasts can enjoy the renovated tennis court at Veterans Park, while pickleball players can take advantage of the brand-new pickleball courts that have quickly become a popular destination.

Looking to cool off? The Cottrell Farm Park Spray Park is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering a fun and refreshing way for families to beat the summer heat. Even more improvements are on the way. New pickleball courts at Mannino Park are scheduled to open later this summer. Once the new courts are complete, the existing pickleball court area will be converted into a new basketball court, creating additional recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. The Township is also celebrating a major investment in its recreational infrastructure. In June, Old Bridge received notification that it had been awarded a $1.4 million NJDEP Green Acres grant for improvements to the Ticetown Road Park natural soccer fields. The project will include the construction of new naturally sodded soccer fields with irrigation and lighting, parking lot resurfacing, and stormwater management improvements. Design work is expected to begin this summer, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2027. Whether you're enjoying our parks, participating in summer programs, or celebrating our nation’s history, there has never been a better time to experience all that Old Bridge has to offer this summer.

HAPPY 250TH BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! 250 YEARS OF FREEDOM: THE FOUNDATION AND THE FULFILLMENT By Kate Shepard, Executive Director Living Stones by Lloyd Pulley, Senior Pastor, Calvary Chapel Old Bridge

As America approaches its 250th anniversar y, it is worth remembering that freedom did not emerge in a vacuum. Many early settlers came seeking religious liberty—the freedom to worship according to conscience. Our founding documents reflect the conviction that our rights are not merely granted by government, but endowed by our Creator. The Constitution remains one of history’s great safeguards of ordered liberty. It recognizes that freedom must be protected from tyranny, but also that freedom requires a people capable of self-government. Laws can restrain evil, but they cannot produce virtue. A nation may defend liberty on paper and still lose it in the hearts of its people. That is why the words of Jesus in John 8 remain so relevant: “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” He was not speaking first of political freedom,

but of a deeper personal freedom. Many assume freedom means doing whatever we want. Yet experience teaches otherwise. We may feel free to spend recklessly, speak carelessly, or chase every desire—only to become bound by debt, regret, broken relationships, or restless appetites. True freedom is not the absence of truth, restraint, or responsibility. It is the ability to choose what is right and enjoy what is good. A musician is most free when trained to play in harmony. A person is most free when no longer enslaved by sin, fear, guilt, or selfish desire. As we celebrate 250 years of national liberty, we should also seek the freedom of the soul. The truest freedom is not merely something we defend. It is something we hide in our hearts… from the truth in the Bible and the Word of Jesus who makes us “free indeed.”

On behalf of our residents, families, volunteers, and staff, I am proud that Reformed Church Home will be joining communities across our nation in celebrating America's 250th Birthday. This milestone offers us an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms, opportunities, and enduring spirit that have shaped our country for generations. It is also a time to honor the many individuals whose lives, service, sacrifices, and contributions have helped enlighten the world around them. As part of our celebration, we invite residents, families, and staff to participate in a festive Patriotic Parade. Whether you are walking independently, using a walker, or traveling in a wheelchair, we encourage everyone to join the fun by dressing and decorating in red, white, and blue. On Friday, July 3rd, at 2:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room, we will gather for our Patriotic Parade followed by a special "fireworks" presentation filled with music, laughter, and community spirit. As we celebrate this historic anniversary, I am reminded of the words inscribed

on the Statue of Liberty—Liberty Enlightening the World. In so many ways, the residents and team members of Reformed Church Home have done exactly that. Through their kindness, resilience, wisdom, service, and friendship, they have brought light to the lives of others and strengthened the community we proudly call home. For more information about our services, please see our blogs or contact: David Boles, Marketing Director, dboles@rchnj.org or (732) 6079230 ext. 161

THE SAT BRINGS HAPPINESS PART 2 By Paul Pscolka

Last month I wrote about how, done properly, SAT prep can bring happiness. I wasn’t finished… Another factor that makes prep more satisfying is deep focus. If a student can reach a state of flow—become fully engaged in their studies—they are happiest. To encourage this, students should study in blocks. A Harvard study found that 15 minutes of block study is optimal for retention. Students should not study longer than 2 hours before taking a break. While studying, students should be free of distractions. Timed drills on material slightly above the student’s ability is ideal. Outside of studies, students should exercise, which improves mood and cognition. Activity also reduces anxiety, improves memory and sleep, increases focus, and boosts mood. 20 minutes of walking daily, lifting weights, playing sports, or any light cardio before studying improves cognition. While activity improves sleep, sleep improves both happiness and performance. A well-rested student will learn faster, recall more, think clearer, and be calmer. Sleep is

part of your SAT curriculum. Once a student gets to the test, calmness and confidence beats anxiety and panic. Students should expect some hard questions, accept that they will sometimes be uncertain, and set their focus on each question as a separate task rather than be focused on the score. Having an attitude of gratitude on test day is also helpful. Research shows that gratitude lowers cortisol and improves emotional regulation. While it may be difficult to be grateful for a 134-minute test, students can be grateful for those who supported them in their test-prep quest. They can reflect on how much progress they have made and remember that they have an opportunity to perform well. Gratitude will help students shift their mind away from threat mode. Focus, exercise, sleep, and mindset help students have an optimal, happy performance. Interested in finding out more about how we build happier, more confident students?
