Content Submission Deadlines

Content submissions due the 5th of each month

As the chill of winter settles in and the holidays draw near, we’re reminded that this time of year is about more than lights and gifts—it’s about gratitude, service, and connection. Across Anthem, families and local businesses continue to give back and support local food banks, foundations, and charities that bring warmth, comfort, and care to those who need it most.

In the rush of the season, may we also find moments of stillness—opportunities to reflect, to reconnect, and to practice mindfulness in the ways we show up for one another. Sometimes the greatest gifts aren’t wrapped at all; they’re found in simple acts of kindness, thoughtful words, or the quiet comfort of being present.

As we prepare for the colder months ahead, let’s carry the spirit of community into every gathering, every gesture, and every shared meal. Together, we make Anthem a place where the holidays mean something deeper—where hearts stay warm long after the lights fade.

From our Anthem Living family to yours, we wish you peace, warmth, and connection this holiday season.

With gratitude,

THE GARY SINISE FOUNDATION: Serving Those Who Serve

Founded by actor and veteran-supporter Gary Sinise, the Gary Sinise Foundation has become a national symbol of gratitude and service. “You may know me as an actor,” Sinise says, “but my life’s work has been to honor and support our nation’s veterans, first responders, wounded heroes, families of the fallen, and those enduring invisible wounds.”

The Foundation’s work is wide-reaching and hands-on:

• Building specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded heroes.

• Providing equipment and training for first responders.

• Promoting mental wellness programs for military and first responders.

• Supporting families of the fallen, providing mobility devices, and completing home modifications to restore independence.

Earning praise for its transparency and fiscal integrity, the organization proudly directs 89¢ of every dollar directly toward its mission. Above all, the Foundation lives by its promise of “serving our defenders of freedom and security and the families who sacrifice alongside them”—with honor, compassion, and respect.

For Tom Ford, owner of Liberty Plumbing, involvement with the Gary Sinise Foundation wasn’t about recognition—it was about gratitude and his own personal mission.

The opportunity to serve connected deeply with Tom’s own story. As a first responder during September 11th, the mission felt especially personal.

“Our partner in the project, Sonoran Homes, got the permit,” Tom recalls. In early 2025, Liberty Plumbing joined the effort, handling the plumbing from the ground up and coordinating with local suppliers to help with materials.

With the support coming from his suppliers - the project was underway.

For Tom, the partnership reflects what Liberty Plumbing stands for. “It’s always America first,” he says. “We give discounts to first responders and veterans. It’s part of our give-back mentality. This kind of work just falls right in line with who we are.”

His crew shared that same enthusiasm. “They were totally into it,” he says proudly. “They couldn’t wait for the ceremonies and were excited just to help. They took a lot of pride in knowing they were doing something that truly mattered.”

Looking ahead, Liberty Plumbing plans to stay involved. “We’ve got another project coming up in Phoenix,” Tom shares. “We love to give back and support the men and women who fight for this country. That’s who we are as a company—and it’s what I try to instill in my team. At the end of the day, it’s about continuing to give back and being proud to stand behind something bigger than yourself.”

A HOLIDAY INVITATION

to Anthem Residents

ANTHEM SINCE 1999

As the desert air turns crisp and December lights begin to twinkle across Anthem, our thoughts often drift to places where the season feels like something out of a storybook—cobblestone streets, sparkling town squares, and the gentle hum of carols floating on the air.

Imagine, then, a voyage not across vast oceans but along the storied rivers of Europe, where every bend reveals another centuries-old village dressed in festive finery. River cruising is the art of traveling slowly—of savoring each moment, each scene, each scent of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

Whether it’s gliding down the romantic Danube, drifting through the enchanting Rhine Gorge, or exploring the hidden gems of France’s Rhône and Seine Rivers, river cruising offers a world that feels both intimate and endlessly rich. Unlike large ocean liners, river ships carry fewer guests, offering a peaceful, elegant atmosphere where your window or private balcony opens directly to Europe’s heart.

Some of the most beloved names in river cruising—Riverside Luxury Cruises, AMA Waterways, Viking River Cruises, and Uniworld Boutique River Cruises—craft itineraries that blend timeless comfort with a sense of discovery. Expect locally inspired cuisine prepared by skilled chefs, immersive excursions guided by experts, and evenings spent listening to soft piano notes as lights shimmer on the water beyond your table. For those who seek an extra touch of seasonal enchantment, Christmas Market cruises are an experience like no other. Each port bursts with holiday magic—Vienna’s elegant palace markets, Budapest’s grand squares glowing with lantern light, and the quiet joy of little alpine towns decorated in evergreen and gold. It’s the warmth of the holidays wrapped in the beauty of European history.

Life on a river cruise unfolds at an unhurried pace. You could set off at sunrise to explore a castle on a hill, return for leisurely afternoon tea, and sip sparkling wine as the ship drifts to your next destination - all without ever packing and unpacking again. Travelers often describe these sailings as “floating boutique hotels,” where each day brings a new view but the same sense of comfort and grace.

Perhaps this winter, as you stroll beneath Anthem’s own starlit skies, you’ll let your imagination wander to the rivers of Europe—where history, culture, and beauty all flow together, carrying travelers on journeys that stay with them long after the last snowflake falls.

Warm regards,

SAVORING THE SEASON

This time of year brings about a lot of change. You can feel it in the colder morning walks and the seasonal flavors at Starbucks. I am most excited for the events spent with family making new memories.

But with all the excitement of the holidays, it’s easy to turn into a “human doer” vs. a “human being”. If you are anything like me, you can get wrapped up in making sure you are online for the Black Friday deal of the century, taking family photos, and planning all the family events to solidify a holiday done right!

But what if you focused on something else this year?

I am going to encourage you (and myself, let’s be honest) to do something a little different this year...

LET'S SAVOR.

The Latin word for savor is “sapor” which means to “taste or flavor.” What a perfect definition for the holidays! Savoring the season doesn’t look like adding MORE to our plates but flavoring what we have with love and intention.

Savoring can also be delightfully ordinary and can look like decorating your home in a way that feels cozy to you, not performative for others on social media, doing something beautiful without posting it online, sitting in silence long enough to remember what your own voice sounds like.

When you savor the season, you begin to redefine what “productive” means. You measure the day not by tasks completed, but by how present and peaceful you felt. You start to see that life isn’t asking you to hustle in this season, it’s inviting you to rest deeper.

So, as the season unfolds, may you let nature’s rhythm become your own. Trees don’t cling to their leaves in fear of letting go, they trust that renewal will come. And maybe that’s what healing from people-pleasing really is, learning that you and your loved ones are worthy of rest without performing for it.

Cheers Friends,

@thethriftingtherapist

COTTONS THE Family Community Leadership

When Dino and Cristina Cotton first found Anthem in 2013, they knew they’d discovered something special. “We looked everywhere—Phoenix, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe,” Dino recalls. “Then we found our first home here in Anthem and just fell in love with it. It was exactly what we had envisioned when we talked about starting a family.” Fifteen years of marriage, four children, and countless community moments later, the Cottons are deeply woven into the fabric of Anthem life. “When our family grew, we needed more space—and of course, we found that right here in Anthem too,” says Cristina. “This is home. I’ve worked in the Deer Valley Unified School District since 2017, and our kids are involved in just about everything.”

Dino laughs when asked why they’ve stayed rooted so long: “Interest rates!” he jokes, then adds sincerely, “But truly, it’s about family. Family is everything. Both of our families live close by, and we’ve become so invested in this community. We have a stake in its success—it’s part of who we are.”

Serving on the Anthem Community Council Board since 2017—with a threeyear break in between—Dino is now in his sixth year on the board and currently serves as Chairman, a familiar face in community leadership. "We’ve been able to bring to life amenities residents had requested for years,” he explains. “The dog park, the pickleball courts, the skate park—improvements that enrich the Anthem experience and offer more ways for families to connect and enjoy their community. I’ve always tried to bring a strategic mindset to the table. When we make decisions, it’s not just about today—it’s about the long-term impact.”

Balancing growth while preserving Anthem’s small-town character is one of Dino’s guiding principles. “We’ve been fortunate to maintain a strong culture among our staff. Anthem employs up to 250 people seasonally—caretakers who make this place what it is. The employees and volunteers truly are the heart of the community.”

As Chairman of the Growth Committee, the City of Phoenix Rio Vista Village Planning Committee, and Anthem Community Council, Dino has a regional

© Best Version Media

view of what’s ahead. “Every plot of land that isn’t a mountain or a wash will likely be developed within the next decade,” he notes. “That’s why it’s so important to have objective, thoughtful planning—to make sure growth happens responsibly.”

Professionally, Dino’s experience as Founder and Chief Talent Officer of Valley Search Group, a recruiting and consulting firm shapes the way he leads. “My career has always been about people—connecting them with opportunities that can change their lives. When you see people as human beings first, not just job titles or numbers, it completely changes how you lead.”

With four kids, council meetings, and two demanding careers, the Cottons have mastered teamwork. “It takes a team, and we really are one,” says Cristina. “Every night we go over the plan—who has what, who’s taking who where—and we always make sure to carve out family time. We show up to the kids’ activities, spend time with extended family, and attend church at CCV. It’s busy, but it’s a life full of love.”

Cristina has been a school-based occupational therapist for 17 years, including the last eight with the Deer Valley Unified School District. “I work with children with special needs, helping them discover their strengths and reach their full potential at school. I love seeing the progress, especially with the preschoolers. At that age, the growth you can witness is incredible.”

As for family favorites?

“Music in May, Anthem Days and Autumnfest—every year,” says Dino. “We sit in the same spot for Independence Day; we love the tree lighting—May and October are the best months in Anthem.”

When asked how residents can get more involved, Dino’s advice is simple: “Stay informed. Follow the newsletters and social media updates—there are so many opportunities to serve and learn what’s happening. Attend meetings, do your research, and stay curious about what’s going on. When residents are informed, our whole community prospers.”

Looking ahead, he sees Anthem’s future defined by intentional growth. “Development is inevitable,” he says, “but how we engage in that process will determine the next chapter of Anthem’s story. If we stay involved, stay connected, and hold true to our shared values— Anthem will continue to thrive.”

When asked to describe Anthem in one word, Dino and Cristina don’t hesitate.

“Home”

The Cotton Kids on Anthem Life: Brookelyn, 16: “I like the close-knit community and how everywhere you go, you see someone you know. Every Saturday night we watch a movie as a family—that’s our thing.”

Piper, 13: “My favorite thing about living in Anthem is that everything is close, you have everything you need. I love our family dinners because we always end up laughing together.”

Annie, 10: “What I love most about living in Anthem is that it’s nice. My favorite thing to do with my family is go out to eat—In-N-Out! I always get a burger with ketchup.”

Ronin, 9: “Starbucks! I love the pink drink. And I love taking karate!”

BEFORE THE CHILL SETS IN: Why Furnace Maintenance Matters

When the temperatures finally start to drop here in Arizona, most of us reach for the thermostat without giving it much thought. But before you switch your system over to heat, it is worth asking, “Is my furnace ready for the season?” With the holidays around the corner and family gatherings filling the calendar, the last thing anyone wants is a heating issue right when guests arrive. Even though we do not rely on our heaters as much as our air conditioners, neglecting your furnace can lead to unnecessary repairs, poor performance, or even safety concerns when that first cold night arrives.

One of the most important parts of your gas furnace is the heat exchanger. It is designed to keep the air you breathe safely separated from the combustion gases created during heating. Over time, normal wear and tear can cause cracks that may allow carbon monoxide to escape into your home. That is one reason annual inspections are so important. They catch small issues before they turn into serious ones.

Another critical area that deserves attention is the flue pipe, which carries combustion gases safely out of your home. If your system has been replaced since the original installation, it is important to verify that the flue pipe was installed correctly and not leaning against wood framing or resting on insulation in the attic, both of which can create a fire hazard. If the pipe becomes loose, disconnected, or damaged, it can also allow carbon monoxide or exhaust gases to vent into the attic instead of outdoors. A proper inspection ensures that the flue is securely attached, correctly routed, and venting safely.

Of course, those are only two parts of a much larger system. Several other components work together to keep your furnace safe and efficient, and each one benefits from annual maintenance.

A complete heating maintenance should include cleaning the burners, testing the ignition system and flame sensor, inspecting the blower motor and wheel, and verifying that your gas valve and

© Best Version Media

pressure levels are set correctly. Safety controls and limit switches should also be tested to confirm they are working as they should. And do not forget the air filter, a simple but essential part of keeping airflow steady and your system running efficiently.

Even if you only use your furnace for a few weeks each year, a tune-up before the holidays helps ensure it is operating safely and efficiently when you need it most. It is one of those small home maintenance tasks that pays off with comfort and peace of mind when your home is full of family and laughter.

At HARE Heating & Refrigeration Experts, we live and work right here in the community we serve. Our family-operated company takes pride in helping our neighbors stay safe and comfortable year-round. If you have not scheduled your seasonal furnace maintenance yet, we would be happy to help. Give us a call to set up your appointment and enjoy a warm, worry-free holiday season.

NEVER GIVE UP:

Coach Don’s Team Rises to Victory at the Allstar World Championship

Step onto the global stage with the Allstar World Championship, presented by the Open Championship Series in Orlando, Florida. This premier destination event brings together the world’s top cheer and dance teams for an unparalleled end-of-season showdown. Athletes compete in front of a massive live audience, celebrate months of relentless training, and soak up the thrill of performing on the biggest platform in the sport. With live scoring, affordable travel packages, and a commitment to “athlete-first” production, the AWC isn’t just another competition—it’s a celebration of passion, teamwork, and excellence at the highest level.

For Coach Don and his athletes at Gold Rush Elite, this seasondefining win became the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and belief.

“It was the end of the season—it’s always super special when you get a BID to go,” Coach Don explains. “A bid is money off your registration from another competition. The team has worked hard all year and then you come to this one event to see if you rise above the rest.”

And rise they did. The team’s Day 1 routine earned the highest score of the entire competition, not just in their division but across all nontumbling, all-level teams. They were also awarded a special recognition bracelet—an honor reserved for the best-of-the-best.

“The last stunt was the most incredible,” Don recalls. “It was their pyramid. They just nailed it—you could see it on their faces. That was the moment we knew.”

For Don, watching his athletes achieve their goal was indescribable. “Just to watch them be so excited, to watch them achieve what they’d worked for all year—that’s what makes it worth it.”

The success didn’t happen overnight. “Every day you fight tooth and nail because of the naysayers,” Don admits. “Our biggest obstacle has been maintaining our kids. You train and train them, and sometimes they leave for another program. But this group didn’t—and that’s what made the difference. They stayed, they worked hard, and that’s what took them all the way to victory.”

He balances discipline with fun, insisting that the environment stay positive. “If it’s not fun, we aren’t doing it,” he laughs. “I’m the happy-golucky coach, but I still hold to my guns. We work hard, but we make sure it’s something they love.”

Gymnastics was Don’s first love. “That’s all I did growing up,” he says. “I always gravitated back to gymnastics, and then I got involved in cheer because of my kids. They didn’t have Allstar Cheer when I was growing up—I was a high-school gymnast, but it wasn’t anything like the sport it is today.”

He didn’t have the resources to compete seriously as a kid—“we just didn’t have the money or the gyms”—but his passion only deepened once he began coaching 35 years ago. His mentor, Coach Jim Pongratz, gave him

his first opportunity: “He asked if I wanted to help out, and that’s how it started. I was thrown right into the fire working with boys—and if anyone knows how boys are,” Don laughs, “that’s how I learned to coach.”

That experience launched a lifetime career. Don became a mobile program director, eventually creating Flip and Go, a traveling gymnastics bus that brought the sport directly to kids across the community—half blue, half pink, and impossible to miss.

Later, after building a thriving local gymnastics program, Don took another leap. When his position was unexpectedly cut, he decided to open his own space—Funtastic Fitness—on Innovation Drive in Anthem, offering gymnastics and dance for local families. “I’d never rented a commercial building before,” he recalls, “but I knew I had to keep going for the kids.”

After decades of coaching, Don’s approach has evolved—but his core message remains constant:

“To never give up and always work hard. If you give it your all, you’ll never fail.”

He’s built a culture on positive reinforcement, accountability, and belief. “We don’t allow the words ‘I can’t.’ There’s always something you can do. These kids take responsibility—they help each other, and they show the younger ones how to act. The discipline of gymnastics goes beyond the mat.”

Anthem’s supportive families, he adds, have been vital: “This community has been amazing. The parents have been behind us every step of the way.”

After more than three decades in the sport, the win at the Allstar World Championship stands as one of Coach Don’s proudest moments. “It was just so cool and so amazing that they won,” he says, emotion still in his voice. “This team was super special. I’ve seen their struggles, I’ve seen their growth. Even when we didn’t win before, those were successes too —but this one… this one was the finally moment. We did it.”

Now, the victory has only fueled their motivation. “They’re pushing themselves even more—this year we’re Level 6. They want to keep going, to see what else they can accomplish.”

For Don, it’s all about the journey:

“It’s the journey, not the destination. If I’m remembered as a positive influence who made a difference in these kids’ lives - that’s the real win.”

BUSINESS PROFILE by Ewa Rusenovich

HOLIDAY JEEP LIGHT PARADE:

Interview with David Coleman

David Coleman’s journey with the Holiday Jeep Light Parade began as a spectator. “I watched it in 2017 and thought it looked like so much fun,” he recalls. “The following year, I bought my first Jeep and joined in as a participant.”

After two years of involvement, the original organizer decided to step away—and David stepped in. “It just felt natural. I put together a team because I couldn’t have done it myself, and over time, more volunteers joined in. Now we’ve got a solid crew that’s been with me for years.”

For David, the heart of the parade is all about community. “It’s the smiles on people’s faces -that’s what makes it so special. The route runs about 31 miles long, passing homes, neighborhoods, and even extended living facilities. We do it for everyone.”

“You can feel the joy,” David says. “It’s unity in the community.”

Seeing families and kids line the streets, bundled up and waving as the Jeeps roll by in lights, never gets old. “There are no words to describe it,” he says. “The excitement, the energy— it’s contagious. That’s why I moved it earlier in the season, to

kick off the holiday spirit right after Thanksgiving.”

Heather, Dave’s trusted office manager, smiles as she recalls a favorite memory. “My daughter Emma was so excited because she got to ride with David one year,” she says. “I don’t think he realizes the impact this has on people—especially those closest to him.”

Planning begins early—often as soon as January. “We really start grinding about three or four months before,” David explains. “It took us two years to nail down the perfect route. Now we keep it consistent so people know where to go and where to watch.”

The parade, which can stretch more than three miles with 300 - 400 vehicles, takes precise coordination. “Once we start rolling from the Outlets, it can take 45 to 50 minutes just to get everyone out. I’m out there at 6 a.m. blocking off areas and making sure everything runs safely. It’s a big job—but worth every second.”

His team collaborates with groups like Youth for Troops, and dozens of volunteers line the streets in festive costumes. “Some even wear lighted tutus,” he laughs. “It’s just pure joy.”

When asked about his favorite moment, David doesn’t hesitate. “When we kick off. The engines rev, the horns honk, and the adrenaline hits. It’s GO TIME. But the best part is at the end—when I thank every single driver one by one. It’s my way of showing gratitude for helping make it happen.”

Though David owns Precise Pest Solutions, he’s quick to clarify that this event isn’t about business. “I don’t put my company name on it, and I don’t do sponsorships,” he says firmly. “This is about community —no politics, no ads, just people coming together to celebrate the holidays.”

His volunteer team has become like family. “None of my team even

drives in the parade,” he says proudly. “They’re behind the scenes making sure everything runs smoothly. That’s how you know their hearts are in it.”

The parade has grown dramatically since its humble beginnings. “The first year I ran it, we had maybe 75 to 100 vehicles,” David says. “Now we’re consistently over 300, sometimes more.”

Heather adds, “You really see the magic at the start—the prizes, the decorations, the creativity. Every year, it just gets better.”

His hope for the future? “Just to keep improving. If it ever gets too big, maybe it becomes an official parade. But for now, I just want it to keep running smoother and bringing people joy.”

When it comes to his own Jeep, David laughs proudly. “Mine’s lit up with about 20,000 lights—it runs off a full gas generator,” he says. “It’s bright, loud, and full of holiday cheer—just how it should be.”

Still, he’s quick to remind that his favorite part isn’t the flash - it’s the feeling. “It’s unity in the community. From age two to one hundred, everyone feels that joy. It’s a lot of work—but it doesn’t feel like work when you see those smiles.”

For Heather, the word that captures it all is grateful—grateful for the volunteers who make it possible, the community that gathers to watch, and the many people who bring the event to life. Most of all, she’s grateful to be part of the tradition behind the scenes, helping create something special for everyone to enjoy.

For Dave, one word sums it up: amazing. “It’s everything,” he says with a smile. “The people, the lights, the laughter—just amazing.”

A Give & Take Little

As a child you might recall your teachers reciting The Golden Rule, “Treat others the way that you would like to be treated.” That lesson was powerful. It gave everyone the same rules to play by. In a world where we are searching for more compassion, empathy, and compromise, it wouldn’t hurt for all of us to take a refresher course on human kindness. It’s not that there aren’t enough givers, but perhaps some of us have lost our way.

Human beings juggle a lot... relationships, work, family life, technology, and social obligations. All this busyness has closed our eyes to the greater needs of the world. It seems like there’s barely enough time to fulfill our own responsibilities. How do we save the world too? Where do we find that extra time and motivation to do more... and give more?

It’s a decision that comes from within, and you must be very clear on the kind of person you want to be. Your emotions are tied to your energy and desires. If

© Best Version Media

you feel stressed, strapped, or depleted you’re less likely to get involved with charity. Giving doesn’t have the same reward when it is done out of guilt, lack, or obligation, nor does it feel good to give with the agenda to get something in return. The ideal situation is to give from a place of joy and unconditional love.

In today’s world, we can't afford to have anyone sitting on the sidelines. Have you noticed that people often pardon themselves from getting involved. “I don’t have enough time, I don’t have enough money, or I don’t know where to begin.” One only has to stop by their local food bank to find a need to fill.

A perfect example of this took place just the other day. Joe Alvarez from Anthem Rotary took the initiative to check in with St. Rose to see how their community pantry was doing. He saw an immediate need and a Rotary team jumped into action. Within hours, they dropped off $1,000 worth of proteins to support their efforts to feed local families.

With local food banks reporting a 20% increase in need, one local church has become a vital resource for those struggling to make ends meet. Crossroads Church in Anthem has created a partnership with Foothills Food Bank. The Care Center is open to receive canned goods and gently used clothing. The Care Center provides a safe place for families to pick up essentials. It's located at 42105 N. 41st Drive and open Tuesdays 5–7 PM and Sundays 10:30 AM–12:30 PM. Guests can receive food, clothing, and hygiene items - no questions asked. Each

visitor is welcomed with prayer, dignity, and the reminder that they are deeply loved by God.

If there’s one thing that you take from this article let it be this. Giving comes from love and a deep sense of connectedness. The more you tap into your own heart, the more likely you are to invest in meaningful causes. There’s something to be said about the phrase, “We’re in this together.” As we approach the holiday season, I hope you challenge yourself to get involved with a local organization. There’s plenty to choose from.

Anytime you put another person’s needs before your own, you are making a conscious decision to help, heal, and support another human being's journey. That's incredibly hopeful. While some people believe giving only benefits the receiver, scientific studies consistently prove those who prioritize service or charity are much happier than those who are inactive.

Giving reinforces a positive attitude and a greater sense of belonging. It allows you to have a positive impact on human life or a social condition. There’s absolutely no downside to giving. If we are all promoting LOVE, we get to take away an incredible feeling of community, and in the big scheme of life, it's our greatest purpose for being.

NAVIGATING MIDLIFE

with Metabolic Support: The Promise of GLP-1 in Perimenopause and Menopause

As women enter perimenopause and menopause, the body undergoes profound metabolic changes. Declining estrogen affects not only mood and temperature regulation but also metabolism, body composition, and how the body manages glucose. These shifts often bring stubborn weight gain especially around the abdomen, along with greater insulin resistance and a heightened risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Amid these challenges, a class of medications known as GLP-1s originally developed for diabetes, has emerged as a powerful tool for midlife women seeking metabolic balance. These drugs mimic a natural hormone, glucagon-like peptide-1, which helps regulate appetite, insulin, and digestion.

How GLP-1 Therapies Help

GLP-1 enhance insulin release when needed, suppress excess glucagon, slow stomach emptying, and promote feelings of fullness. In midlife women, this translates into:

• Better appetite control and weight management. As hunger cues and leptin/ghrelin balance shift in menopause, GLP-1 helps reduce cravings and promote fullness.

• Improved insulin sensitivity. They counteract the insulin resistance that often accompanies estrogen decline.

• Cardiometabolic protection. By reducing abdominal fat and improving waist circumference, GLP-1 may lower cardiovascular risk an important consideration after menopause.

Emerging studies show that even in perimenopausal or postmenopausal women, GLP-1 therapy can lead to meaningful weight loss and improvements in metabolic health.

GLP-1 medications are not a substitute for hormone therapy when that is medically indicated, but they can complement hormonal and lifestyle approaches. Lifestyle still matters with continued resistance training, quality nutrition, good sleep, and stress management remain the foundation for preserving lean muscle and vitality through menopause.

Thriving Through the Transition

Menopause is more than a biological milestone it’s an opportunity to reshape long-term health. With thoughtful use of GLP-1 therapies alongside holistic self-care and, when appropriate, hormone therapy, women can regain metabolic control, protect their hearts, and feel energized for the decades ahead.

Puppies & Pilates

Puppies and Pilates highlighted the importance of combining wellness and community service. Pilates not only strengthens the body and mind, but when paired with a cause, it strengthens community bonds as well. By bringing people together in a positive and playful environment, Michelle and Brittany created a space where fitness lovers, animal advocates, and families could connect around a shared mission.

After class, participants were treated to refreshing beverages and nutrients from Clean Juice, helping everyone recharge while continuing to mingle with the pups and volunteers.

The Puppies and Pilates event was a beautiful reminder of how small moments of movement, compassion, and community support can create meaningful impact. Thanks to everyone who joined, shared, and supported Anthem Pets and Evolve Collective in making this event a success.

Women Who Lead: Strength in Service

“I’ve always found myself in leadership roles, even as a youth. It’s simply part of how I’m wired to serve, guide, and create impact wherever I am,” says Marwa Morsi, leader of the Anthem Jr. Interact Club.

“Becoming a parent shifted my perspective. I recognized a gap—real, relatable role models were rare. I wanted my children to see that leadership isn’t reserved for the famous; it’s something we build through service, compassion, and community involvement - and that’s where my journey with volunteering and youth leadership began.”

Her journey began when her oldest son joined the Young Marines at just seven years old. Starting the first young marines unit in North Phoenix as the Unit Commander, Marwa witnessed how structure, discipline, and purpose could transform a child’s confidence and outlook. “Through the Young Marines, I saw how giving kids a purpose, something meaningful to show up for can transform their confidence and connect them to something far greater than themselves,” she says. That experience inspired her to stay involved, coaching track and field and later leading the Anthem Jr. Interact Club, where she continues to help youth find direction and purpose through community service.

“There’s an indescribable joy that comes from helping others. It fills you with purpose and reminds you how connected we all are,” she explains. “When you learn the value of giving and service to others at a young age, it stays with you into adulthood, and hopefully, you carry it forward, passing that spirit of service to the next generation.”

Balancing mentorship and discipline comes naturally to her. “It all starts with being a mom,” she laughs. “Raising three boys and a sassy girl as a single mother taught me that leadership starts at home. Setting expectations, holding them accountable, and showing them that failure isn’t final nor does it define you. Every time they fall and get back up, they’re building the confidence to lead their own lives.”

Marwa’s resilience comes from her mother, who immigrated from Egypt, raised six children, and spent decades caring for her ailing husband. “She taught us that you don’t give up on people no matter what. That’s the legacy I try to carry on,” Marwa says. In 2022, she took a leap of faith. Leaving a stable corporate job to start her own business as a single mother of four. “Premier HR Services was never part of the plan, but it became my calling. I wanted my children to see firsthand that courage and faith in your dreams can turn uncertainty into opportunity,” she says. “During my ribbon-cutting ceremony, my kids were cheering, ‘That’s my mom!’ and in that moment, every risk, every late night, and every ounce of doubt became worth it.”

Marwa credits Anthem for being her extended family. “This community has embraced me and my kids with open arms. Their support and love have carried us through challenges and made every milestone even more meaningful,” she says. “When we moved from California, my neighbors came over just to welcome us - something I hadn’t experienced before. Here, whether it’s through my Rotary family, Chamber friends, or my kids’ schools, there’s always someone I can count on. That sense of community means everything.”

“We have so many incredible networking groups here in Anthem and many of them are led by strong, inspiring women. For me, it’s all about building genuine relationships and friendships, supporting one another, and shining a light on each other’s businesses, events, and goals. You don’t tear anyone down. You lift them up. True connection comes from putting others first.”

As for self-care? She laughs again. “I’m still learning that part,” she admits. “When your whole being is focused on helping others, you often forget yourself. But that’s part of who I am - giving has always come first.”

Her advice for women stepping into leadership is simple: “Don’t let others define your path. Stay true to yourself and follow your own dreams. Don’t let the noise of social media or others’ opinions shape define you. Your purpose is yours alone.”

“Life will always bring challenges, but there’s always a way through them. you just have to believe in your strength to find it.”

Will Your Relationships Thrive or Dive This Holiday Season?

T‘EM A BREAK FOUNDATION, INC.

he holidays have a way of magnifying everything—the joy, the laughter, the love...and even the stress, tension, and overwhelmingness hidden underneath the surface.

You can have a life that looks beautifully “together” on the outside—the dinner parties, the decorations, the social calendar—and still feel completely untethered on the inside. No matter how picture-perfect things appear, there are certain seasons that have a way of pressing the tender spots in all of us.

I’ve lived that in full color. Between owning & leading organizations, juggling multiple priorities, managing my Multiple Sclerosis and navigating life as a parent of an angel; I’ve learned that peace doesn’t magically appear when everything slows down. Peace is something you fight for. It’s something you choose—over and over again—especially when the world around you feels loud, demanding, and a little messy.

And that choice? It starts with the relationship you have within yourself. Because how you connect within yourself—your thoughts, your boundaries, your energy—sets the tone for every other relationship you have.

So, let’s make this season different. Let’s not just survive it. Let’s thrive through it by following these tips:

➊ Be tender with yourself first.

You cannot give what you don’t have. Beating yourself up for not doing enough, not being enough, or not feeling festive enough serves no one. Grace starts with you.

Action step: Build “reset rituals.” Whether it’s a walk, journaling, prayer, or five minutes of deep breathing—carve out space daily to reconnect with yourself. Peace isn’t found in a pause; it’s built in the small, consistent moments you give yourself.

❷ Protect your peace like it’s priceless— because it is.

You don’t need to attend every argument you’re invited to. Not every comment deserves a comeback, and not every situation needs your involvement.

When you choose calm over chaos, you reclaim control over your experience.

Action step: Identify your personal peace triggers. Maybe it’s too much noise, too many plans, or a relative who always crosses a line. Build in boundaries ahead of time—like shorter visits, scheduled breaks, or a clear exit plan.

❸ Lead with understanding and grace. Everyone’s carrying something invisible— stress, grief, insecurity, or exhaustion. I’ve learned through my MS journey, and through friendships that span all kinds of backgrounds, that most people are doing the best they can, even when it doesn’t look like it. When we extend understanding instead of judgment, we shift the entire energy of a room.

Action step: When someone tests your patience, pause before reacting. Ask yourself, What might they be going through? That single thought can transform a defensive moment into a compassionate one.

❹ Check your energy before your calendar.

Before you say yes to another dinner, event, or “quick favor,” ask yourself: Do I have the energy for this, or am I running on fumes?

Saying yes to everyone else means saying no to yourself—and when your energy is drained, patience and empathy are the first to go. Thriving relationships require presence, not proximity.

Action step: Audit your week. Circle three commitments that light you up and cross out one that doesn’t. That single “no” is a gift to your sanity.

❺ Focus on connection, not perfection. No one remembers if the napkins matched or the cookies were homemade. They remember how you made them feel. The holidays are about being together, not performing together.

Action step: Choose one tradition this year that genuinely brings you joy—and release one that feels like an obligation. Make space for real connection.

The truth is, thriving relationships don’t happen by accident—they happen by intention. When you protect your peace, prioritize your energy, and lead with compassion, you not only strengthen your relationships with others—you deepen your relationship with yourself.

Because thriving doesn’t mean doing more. It means becoming more: more patient, more present, more at peace.

And if this season feels heavy or bittersweet, know that’s okay too. Joy and pain can coexist. Healing and celebration can share the same space. The holidays don’t have to be perfect to be meaningful—they just have to be real.

So, this year, choose peace over pressure. Choose presence over performance. Choose connection over control, and watch how your relationships—and your spirit—begin to thrive.

The Falks’ Story of Faith, Family, and Forever DEFIES THE ODDS:

Even in life’s hardest seasons, love can create moments of pure magic. On October 4, 2025, Tahna and Mark Falk celebrated ten years of marriage - a vow renewal overflowing with joy, hope, and the unbreakable bond of a family determined to cherish every moment.

This wasn’t just an anniversary, It was a miracle in motion—a celebration of ten years of love, shared dreams, and unwavering strength in the face of life’s greatest challenge. Surrounded by family, friends, and their daughter Elliana, Tahna and Mark Falk walked hand in hand into a night that reminded everyone what love truly means: holding on, showing up, and finding beauty even in the hardest moments.

The couple’s story began in Prescott, Arizona, where Tahna, a passionate event planner, met Mark, a quiet outdoorsman with a heart of gold. Their connection was instant and undeniable—two souls finding peace, laughter, and purpose in each other. Within two years, they said “I do,” beginning a life filled with faith, service, and deep devotion.

Together, they built not only a family but a legacy of giving. Tahna founded StarStruck Event Planning, shaping countless weddings and special events across Northern Arizona. She also leads the Prescott and Sedona Wedding Expos and revitalized the Festival of Trees Prescott, which donates 100% of proceeds to local nonprofits. Her leadership as cochair of the Prescott Event Alliance Industry Showcase earned recognition from the City of Prescott - a testament to her heart for the community.

But behind the success came unimaginable news: a diagnosis of Stage 4 rectal cancer, which has spread to her liver, lungs, and abdomen. With a prognosis measured in months. Tahna has faced this battle with extraordinary grace, supported by Mark—her rock—and Elli, her light.

When the Chilleen Dream Foundation learned of their story, the team knew this love deserved a celebration worthy of its strength. The foundation, which gifts weddings and vow renewals to couples facing life’s toughest trials, was honored to host the Falks’ dream vow renewal on October 4, 2025—a night that became pure magic.

From the powerful moment Tahna walked down the aisle with her husband of 10 years and their precious daughter, to a touching song sung by Mark in honor of their first date, every detail reflected the love they share. Children danced, family and friends laughed, and for one unforgettable evening, everyone was able to simply be present—wrapped in joy, gratitude, and hope.

“It was the most beautiful night,” Tahna shared. “I’m so happy we said yes to doing this. I’ve

been reflecting on so many special moments that I will always cherish. Thank you again for everything you did for us and for others like us.”

This is what the Chilleen Dream Foundation is all about—celebrating love in its most challenging moments and reminding us that even in hardship, joy can bloom.
