Autumn has arrived in Anthem, bringing cooler mornings, golden evenings, and countless reasons to gather as a community.
This month, our theme is Transformation and Resilience. The Keto Kid: A Real-Life Superhero shares an inspiring journey of hope and healing, while From Dancer to Director shows how grit and dedication can open new doors and a future built on passion and possibility. A Girl and the Dog , reminds us of the joy, loyalty, and love our pets bring to our lives.
Community involvement has already been on full display with the Anthem Rotarys' recent charity event, which once again highlighted the generosity and service-minded spirit that defines our town.
Supporting our veterans and the organizations that serve them remains a cornerstone of our mission at Anthem Living. Groups like Youth for Troops—with traditions such as their
Red Ornament Fundraiser—remind us of the true spirit of our community. These events highlight the best of Anthem: neighbors coming together in gratitude and unity. They are powerful reminders that service, sacrifice, and connection form the foundation of the freedoms we all cherish.
This issue also welcomes two new expert contributors, and spotlights local businesses dedicated to helping residents feel their best inside and out.
At Anthem Living , we celebrate the people, stories, and connections that make this community extraordinary. October is the perfect time to embrace transformation, service, and the bonds—both human and furry—that make life here so special.
With gratitude,

BY GINNY SCHULZ | POWER TO THRIVE CONSULTING CO.
Business is my passion and with 25 years of large brand corporate experience, I sit in the VP seat of a global company and I am a multibusiness entrepreneur and founder of an incredible 501c3 - but my real purpose is sharing what I have experienced with others by helping high performers stop tripping over their own excuses and finally rise into the life they were made for. You know who you are - because the spark is already within you. All it needs is to be seen, tended to, and turned into a blaze that will light the way.
I built Power to Thrive Consulting Co. because I know what it feels like to be underestimated, overworked, and overwhelmed by circumstances you never asked for. I also know what it feels like to win anyway. My role isn’t to hold hands and preach - it’s to be the Business Sherpa who helps you slice through the BS, climb the steep parts with grit, and step into the freedom you were designed for. And here’s the thing: I don’t just teach it. I live it.
At 18, I was the only married, pregnant kid in my graduating class. That’s right! Two diplomas in hand—one with my maiden name, one with my married name—I jumped straight into motherhood before I had a clue who I was. Divorce, single parenting, hustling just to keep the lights on. That’s why my amazing father and I started The Give ’Em a Break Foundation. A foundation dedicated solely to hardworking individuals that experience an unexpected hardship.

I know the exhaustion of holding it all together while wishing for just one damn break. Giving back isn’t charity for me—it’s who I am.
In 2010, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. MS doesn’t ask for permission, and it doesn’t care if you’re building a career or raising babies. It forced me to slow down, rethink everything, and fight harder than ever to protect my health while still pushing forward. That diagnosis could have stopped

me in my tracks. Instead, it became fuel—a reminder that no matter how unpredictable life gets, I refuse to quit.
And then came the kind of loss that sears into your bones. Five years ago, my twenty-year-old daughter Angela was taken by fentanyl. That kind of grief could bury a person. But grief also forges a different kind of strength—the kind that makes you see clearly what matters and what doesn’t. My grit was forged in that fire, and it’s the same grit I pour into every client I work with.
My heartbeat is my family. My teenage boys, Zander and Andrew, who amaze me daily by the incredible young men they are becoming even after their own catastrophic circumstances. My granddaughter Hazel, who carries her mama’s spark in her eyes and reminds me of the beauty of second chances. And Kevin—my anchor, my husband, the proof that true love doesn’t clip your wings, but only helps you fly higher.
But my why doesn’t stop at home. I want every single person who’s hungry for growth - whether you’re building a business, chasing a dream, or simply trying to rise above the weight of life—to know this: you can do it. You are capable of more than you realize, and you don’t have to do it alone.
Leadership isn’t about titles. It’s not about sitting in a corner office. It’s about rolling up your sleeves, showing up for your people, and giving a damn. That’s why you’ll see me standing on the sidelines at my sons’ school and sports events, showing up for local nonprofits, and pouring into women who just need one person to believe in them until they can believe in themselves.

Let me be straight: thriving isn’t easy. It’s not supposed to be. But it is possible. When you work with me, you’re not getting fluff or quick fixes—you’re getting strategy, and the chance to walk beside a no-BS Business Sherpa who’s climbed the mountain herself. Here’s a taste of what you’ll experience:
• Excuses don’t build a legacy. I’ll call you out on your own patterns of selfsabotage and cut them at the root.
• Resilience is built, not born. I’ll show you how to turn setbacks into stepping stones instead of stop signs.
• Freedom takes work. Financial, personal, and time freedom aren’t handed out—you earn them with strategy, grit, and persistence.
• Authenticity wins. In leadership, business, and life—being raw and real beats polished perfection every single time.
Thriving is raw. It’s relentless. It will break you open before it builds you stronger. Life will hand you heartbreak, struggle, and scars you never asked for. But those scars aren’t weakness—they’re proof you’ve fought and survived. If you’ve been knocked down, you’re not broken—you’re being rebuilt. And you don’t have to climb alone.
If you’re ready to stop doubting yourself and start moving toward the life and freedom you were meant for, I’ll be right here—real, raw, and in your corner every step of the way. Schedule a discovery call, and I’ll help give you the Power to Thrive.

Anthem residents turned out in full force in August to support Boulder Creek High School student Eric Boateng, who is recovering from a devastating car accident. The Anthem Rotary Club hosted a community car wash at the Legends Bar & Grill parking lot, accompanied by a t-shirt sale. The combined fundraiser generated approximately $9,000 for Eric’s recovery.
Volunteers, Rotarians, and neighbors lined up at Legends throughout the morning, not only to get their cars washed but to show solidarity with Eric, a 16-year-old student leader whose story of survival has inspired many across the North Valley.
On July 19, Eric was returning from a Rotary youth leadership retreat in Prescott when his car was struck on US 93 and thrown into a field, where it caught fire. Unconscious at first, Eric awoke just in time to escape the flames. Good Samaritans helped move him to safety, but his vehicle and all his belongings were completely destroyed.
He was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he was treated for a broken femur, fractured ankle, hip injury, and multiple lacerations. Doctors have called his survival a miracle, and he now

faces a long road to recovery. He was restricted to a wheelchair for several weeks while he underwent physical therapy.
“The Anthem community takes care of its people, and they showed up in a big way for Eric,” said Anthem Rotary Club president David Newham. “He is a special young man who has made a positive impact through his community leadership and service to others. It was powerful to see so many people give back to him and his family during his time of need.”
At the event, more than a hundred cars were washed by Rotary club members and volunteers from local businesses. Additionally, students from Boulder Creek High School assisted in washing and drying cars, supported by the Anthem Prep football team.
Further, Anthem Rotary sold nearly 200 t-shirts with its signature ANTHEM STRONG design. These popular shirts were available for a limited time for just $20 each.
Active in Rotary’s Interact District Council, Eric was scheduled to attend the prestigious Bank of America Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. before the accident. While that trip was cut short, his resilience has left a lasting impression on peers and adults alike.
The success of the fundraiser is a reminder of what makes Anthem unique: neighbors stepping up when one of their own needs help.

LA Beauty Works is more than a skincare studio—it’s a peaceful, welcoming space where people of all ages come to feel confident, cared for, and truly at home in their own skin.
With over 30 years of experience, Lene' Didone's journey in the beauty industry began behind the counters of iconic brands like Estée Lauder and Lancôme, where she managed stores and brought makeup artistry to life. As her passion for skincare deepened, she transitioned into the medical aesthetics field—training nurses in injectables, laser treatments, and chemical peels. Her expertise led her to teach state-certified skincare courses in California, where she helped mentor and shape the next generation of skincare professionals.
Lene' chuckles as she recalls one of her most memorable teaching moments—the time she stepped out of the classroom for just a few minutes and returned to find her students had accidentally spilled an entire pot of wax everywhere, including the client’s hair. “But to their credit, they cleaned it all up, like magic!.” It’s these lighthearted, unexpected moments that remind her how much joy this work brings— and how every day in the studio offers something new.
After relocating to Arizona in 2017, she found the perfect place to slow down and build something more personal. That’s when LA Beauty Works, located inside of the Salt Spa Wellness Collaborative was born—a studio devoted to customized skincare in a calm, relaxing environment.
“My favorite part of this job is seeing the progress and making people feel good about themselves,” Lene' says. “It’s all about the clients—one million percent.”
Every treatment at LA Beauty Works is tailored to the individual. From teens navigating acne to adults managing long-term skin concerns, each client is treated with kindness, expertise, and a whole lot of heart. One of her passions is helping teens start strong with their skin health. “If we guide them early, they’ll build habits that stay with them for life. They won’t be afraid to care for themselves or seek help when they need it. That’s a gift.”
Lene' has been married for over 30 years—“to the nicest guy in the world,” she says. Originally from Rome, Italy, Giovanni shares her love for travel, especially to Europe. Together, they enjoy spending time with their sweet dog, Dino, and their tight-knit circle of friends. While they still miss the ocean, they’ve found their rhythm in the Arizona sunshine.
Lene’s message to the community is simple, yet powerful:
“Do what makes you happy—in life, in work, in everything. Just do what brings you joy.”
And at LA Beauty Works, that joy shines through—in the glowing faces of clients, the laughter that fills the room, and the quiet confidence of a business built on care, experience, and love.

How the Schofer family found hope, healing, and resilience through community, science, and a life-changing diet.
Life for James Schofer began like most little boys—playing, laughing, and exploring but at just 15 months old, he had his first seizure. For eight months that followed, his parents, Jen and Kyle, clung to the hope that it was only a passing scare. But when the seizures returned, they came with a force that would not let go. What started as occasional jerks quickly became relentless episodes, striking every few minutes and leaving his parents terrified of what might come next.
By the time James was two and a half, their joyful, energetic toddler was battling multiple seizure types, but the most common were myoclonic seizures - characterized by sudden jerks, mainly in his arms—and atonic seizures, where his little body would suddenly go limp without warning. “It started happening every couple of minutes,” Jen recalls. “We were panicked.” Instead of carefree days of play, the Schofer family found themselves counting seizures, rushing between doctors, and watching helplessly as their little boy began to slip behind.
At one point, James was enduring over 100 seizures a day. “We didn’t know if it was the seizures or the medications that were causing a slew of symptoms,” Jen says quietly. “He went from developing normally to slurred speech, constant fatigue, and falling behind. It

was terrifying.” The physical toll was heartbreaking. “He would get big black eyes and bruises all over his body from falling during the seizures,” Kyle remembers. “His little brain was just short-circuiting.”
Months passed as the family waited to see a specialist. In desperation, they finally brought James through the ER at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted and placed under the care of a neurology team. The diagnosis was Doose Syndrome, a rare and difficult-

to-treat form of epilepsy. The first rounds of treatment meant trying multiple medications, but nothing seemed to help. The seizures persisted and hope felt like a distant dream. Then came a turning point. Doctor Randa Jarrar suggested the ketogenic diet, a strict and carefully measured plan of high fat, controlled protein, and minimal carbohydrates that has been proven to help some children with epilepsy. For Jen and Kyle, the idea felt overwhelming. “They gave us a giant book to read, tested us on it, and then we had to start weighing every bite of food to the tenth of a gram,” Jen explains. “We spent hours in the kitchen prepping, tracking, and relearning everything about food.”
But James adapted in ways that stunned everyone. “He was only three—he doesn’t even remember food before keto,” Jen says. “He calls it his magic diet because it keeps the seizures away.” Over time, what once felt impossible became a new normal. Family weekends spent with measuring cups and scales slowly gave way to routines that felt manageable.
Through it all, the Schofers leaned heavily on one another and on their community. “We’ve been married almost 16 years, and sometimes you can just see when the other person is broken,” Jen reflects. “You learn to carry each other through it.” Grandparents, siblings, and extended family surrounded them with encouragement, while Anthem friends and neighbors sent love and messages of support.
Canyon Springs STEM Academy became another anchor. His kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Fields, the school nurse Dave Goettl, and the principal, Jaime Aldred, show constant compassionate care and attention to James’ dietary needs. “If James doesn’t finish his lunch, Nurse Dave makes sure he eats every bite,” Kyle shares with gratitude. “That support makes all the difference.”
And James himself showed resilience that amazed everyone around him. “He was so little when all this started that he just went with the flow,” Jen says. A family vacation shortly after starting the ketogenic diet marked a turning point. “We saw his eyes brighten and his brain start working in ways it hadn’t for so long,” Kyle remembers. “For the first time in months, we felt…hope.”
Since then, the progress has been nothing short of miraculous. From over 100 seizures a day, James is now totally seizure-free. He takes only one low-dose medication, less than half the strength he once needed. His doctors are optimistic: If he continues this way, he may one day be able to taper off medication and the diet entirely.
Looking back, Jen and Kyle know this journey has forever changed their family. It has taught them the power of hope, the importance of community, and the strength that comes from never giving up. Their message to other families walking the same difficult road is heartfelt: “Don’t walk - run to keto. Don’t try to do it alone. Lean on your family, your friends, science, doctors, and your community. Keep living your life, and don’t lose hope.”
And perhaps the most powerful words of all come from 5-year-old James himself - a little boy who has endured more than most adults ever will, and who carries the simplest wish in his heart: “I’m not different - I just want to be like my brothers.”

At just three years old, Lyndsie Clymer walked into Dynamic Motion Dance Academy (DMDA) hiding shyly behind her mom’s leg. She grew up dancing within those walls, eventually assisting teachers and leading classes of her own. By 2019, she was company director, and on June 1, 2025, she officially purchased the very studio where her passion first bloomed.
This summer, DMDA was renovated and rebranded as Powerhouse Dance - a name inspired by the title “powerhouse dancer,” often given to Lyndsie growing up. “Never in a million years did I think I’d be creating a space for dancers and carrying on a beautiful legacy,” she says.
Powerhouse Dance isn’t just a studio - it’s a family. With classes spanning Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Acro, Ballroom, Pom, Mommy & Me, and more, Lyndsie and her team focus on more than perfecting technique. Their mission is simple: for every dancer to leave feeling loved, confident, and inspired.

In 2016, a tiny 5-pound Maltipoo named Falkor entered my life and for nine incredible years he stood by me as I experienced life’s greatest blessings along with the heartaches that so often come our way.
Falkor was more than just a dog. He was my daily witness, my companion, and he showed me a love unlike any I had ever experienced before. Our adventures were never-ending, and our love knew no bounds.
In March of 2025, my angel gained his wings after he lost his battle to kidney disease. His absence has left an ache that words cannot fully express, but the love and impact he left behind is profound.
Today, his legacy continues with A Girl and the Dog & A Man's Best Friend series—carrying forward the joy, devotion, and perfect love he gave so freely. –Ewa Rusenovich

Sadie is 9, sassy, and full of life—an animal lover, theatre kid, choir singer, Mandarin learner, and proud brown belt in karate. Her newest adventure? Raising Bruno, our 7-month-old French Bulldog who brought us so much joy after we lost our beloved Bruce last summer. Sadie loves cuddling him, reading him stories, and trying to teach him tricks (though he’s just as stubborn as she is.) Bruno’s goofy personality keeps us laughing daily, and watching their bond grow has been the sweetest gift. –Brie Weiss
We're Brian and Kathy Farrelly, the husband-and-wife team behind Dog Days Pet Photography, an Anthem based studio dedicated to the art of pet portraiture. Our ethos is built on patience and a profound respect for animals, which allows us to create a stress-free experience that reveals each dog's unique spirit. Looking forward, our goal is to create a lasting collection of beautiful portraits that tell the stories of our community's most beloved pets, one family at a time. –Brian and Kathy Farrelly, www.dogdayspetphotography.com.

At Evolve Collective, fitness is more than a workout—it’s a place to belong.
Founded by Michelle and Scott Skinner, who have been part of Anthem’s fitness community since 2007, the studio was born out of both passion and personal experience. After recovering from a serious back injury through Pilates, Michelle opened her first pilates studio in 2019 to share the program that changed her life.
“Pilates gave me my life back,” Michelle shares. “I went from struggling to walk up stairs to feeling strong again. Now I get to bring that same transformation to others.”

Today, Evolve Collective has grown into a 3,600-square-foot space designed to inspire confidence and connection. Members move seamlessly through three signature modalities—Reformer Pilates, Barre, and Strength Training—in programs that build week by week. The approach is structured, progressive, and empowering; clients leave not just stronger but surprised by what they’re capable of.
What truly sets Evolve apart is its culture. “We’ve built something from the ground up,” Michelle says. “With the support of our incredible team —including our studio manager, Brittany—we wrote our own training program and designed every detail to reflect who we are. That kind of collaboration is what makes this place so special.”
That spirit carries beyond the studio walls. Evolve is known for creative community events like Puppies & Pilates in the Park on October 26th, a special Mother’s Day celebration each spring as well as monthly fitness challenges and themed socials. Each one is designed to bring people together, build confidence, and—true to the studio’s name—keep evolving.
“Fitness should feel fun, welcoming, and uplifting,” Michelle adds. “We want every person who walks in to feel seen, supported, and proud of what they accomplish here.”

Most of us are on the go during the summer months. We plan road trips and golf trips and take family vacations. By the time September rolls around, we’re ready to slow down. The cooler weather calls for sweaters, football, pumpkin spiced lattes, and Hallmark movies. The kids go back to school, and families settle into a whole new routine. In most states you can see, feel, and experience the shift in weather patterns. While places like Colorado and Nevada brace for snow and freezing temperatures, Arizonans just cover their outdoor furniture and pack up their pool toys.
Nature reminds us there are cycles to everything. What may seem like some tearful ending is really just a new beginning. Whether you’ve made the correlation or not, the seasons are a mirror for your personal transformation. The trees change color…and so do YOU! As plants become dormant and animals look to hibernate, there’s something within all of us that wants to get quiet too. It’s a recalibration that we undergo every single year. It’s physical, psychological, social, emotional, and spiritual. “It’s like clockwork!”

When the publisher of Anthem Living Magazine asked me to write about transformation, I got very excited. I knew that she was in tune with all the swirling energy in the world. Things are shifting on every level of life, and many of these changes are driven by technology. Sharing information on the phone has changed the way we interact with one another, and it’s accelerated the pace in which we move and groove in the world.
Phones are at our disposal, so we are busy at all times. This high-speed world has changed our standard of living, social habits, politics, family dynamics, creativity, use of our free time, and our so-called “rules of engagement.” While technology has its benefits, it also has drained us. It distracts us from connecting with one another and from being fully present with our emotional, physical, and spiritual needs. It’s all the “keeping up” with everything and everyone that has left us feeling a strange vacancy.
So, here’s a question that I want to pose, “Is it possible that these combined trends are prompting us to reset our priorities and lean into something more authentic?”
We forget that this entire journey has some greater purpose beyond self-gratification. The fall season reminds us that if something has run its course or no longer serves the greater good, it’s time to let it go. Nature invites us to reflect on our lives in this very same way. Where are the weakened bonds? Which branches don’t yield fruit anymore? Which leaves are getting ready to fall? This is a necessary process for a tree to survive and ensure new growth. Human beings are no different.
With each passing year we are transforming into someone new. Some things will withstand another season. Other things are meant to be released. If we view this process as a period of growth and renovation, then we shall come through each passing season stronger and wiser. This is why so many people have resonated with the “Let Them Theory.”
We can no longer afford to give our energy away to people, places, and habits that aren’t adding value to our lives. We cannot deplete ourselves over things that we cannot control.
Fall marks a significant period of reflection and listening. “What is holding my energy right now? Is it beneficial, or has something run its natural course?” It doesn’t matter what it is, a job, partnership, friend group, parenthood, even political leaders… Everything has a temporary place in our lives. AND even if you don’t like it, you get to choose how to respond to a situation. You can choose to break or awaken something courageous within you.
Think about your own life. Every time you’ve gone through adversity and said to yourself, “I don’t know what to do,” somehow you figured it out. You discovered compassion for yourself or another person, you powered through adversity, and you found your resilience. Change is a fact of life, and we
diagnosis. They will tell you that they had to surrender what life used to be in order to welcome something brand new. It doesn’t matter who you are. You can neither escape adversity nor control the tide of what is coming and going from your life.
You are not the same person you were 20 years ago, 10 years ago, 5 years ago, last year, or even last week. Life has seasons, and while we may have once thought of it in terms of time and weather, it is so much more. It’s discovering your resilience, faith, and higher purpose.

Here is the truth: there will be times when you bask in the light and other times that you sit in darkness. There will be seasonal storms, but they too shall pass. Every part of your journey is taking you further along in your emotional and spiritual development. There lies the power of transformation. Once you understand this, you will immediately feel more grace and ease. Letting go is not only the most important lesson in nature…It's also true of our human experience. What we perceive to be an ending is really just a new beginning.
With Kindness and Gratitude,
Krista Gawronski

For many in the military, "home for the holidays" isn’t a possibility. While most gather with loved ones, thousands of deployed service members spend the season far from family and the comforts of home. That’s where Youth for Troops steps in—spreading holiday cheer across the globe, one care package at a time.
This holiday season, Youth for Troops is honored to send 1,200 holiday

care packages to deployed heroes. But to make that happen, the organization needs to raise over $18,000—and the community can help by participating in the R.E.D. Ornament Campaign.
R.E.D. stands for Remember Everyone Deployed, and this campaign offers a meaningful way to do just that. Supporters can purchase a $5 ornament, write a personal message on the tag, and know it will be included in a holiday care package sent to a deployed service member. You can also choose to take an ornament home and hang it on your own tree as a reminder of those serving far from home this Christmas.
Each care package is lovingly assembled by volunteers and filled with holiday cheer and comforts from home, including:
• Christmas stockings
• Christmas cards
• Hot cocoa kits
• Homemade ornaments
• Popcorn balls
• Cookies
• Hot sauces
• Handmade Christmas carol books
• Personalized R.E.D. ornaments
These festive, nostalgic packages remind our heroes that they are not forgotten—and that their service is deeply appreciated.
Youth for Troops sends out over 200 care packages each month throughout the year, aiming to raise morale and build connections with those stationed far away. Items like socks, puzzle books, beef jerky, peanut butter, candy, and handwritten notes are small comforts that mean the world to someone serving overseas.
Through volunteer service events, community members of all ages come together to pack these gifts with care and gratitude. These gatherings not only support our troops but also foster patriotism, unity, and service among local volunteers.
Grateful letters from deployed troops share how much these packages mean—reminding us all that a little piece of home can go a very long way.
Help Youth for Troops reach their goal this holiday season:
• Buy a R.E.D. Ornament for $5
• Sponsor care packages or contribute supplies
• Join a service event and volunteer
• Spread the word on social media and in your community
• Visit YouthForTroops.org to purchase ornaments, contribute and learn more about upcoming events.
This holiday season let’s send joy across the miles and remind our heroes that they are never alone.
