Preface: Ninth edition The purpose of this Ninth Edition of the Instructor’s Guide remains that of presenting you with a complete package of material for use with this new edition of Strategic Management. The Introduction discusses the teaching issues presented by the text, including a section on the main revisions for this new edition. The next section on Course Outlines provides some suggestions as to how the book itself might be adapted to different teaching needs. Each chapter is then discussed and explored with some indicative answers to the questions posed by the case studies and some comments on the Strategic Project, where relevant, and Critical Reflection for that chapter. Note that the summary of the chapter given in this Guide does not necessarily match that in the main text. In addition to general editing and updating, there are following five changes in the main text for this edition: •
The stakeholder versus shareholder debate. This has been moved and updated to Chapter 6 on Purpose. It follows a new case on the retailer Marks & Spencer that presents some of the issues.
•
Knowledge and Networks: Chapter 11 now has a new section on this important topic. It replaces the section in earlier editions of the text on undertaking a Knowledge Audit, because the audit topic has received little (if any) attention in the research literature.
