6:00 It is a beautiful tuesday for the co-living building in the Cadixwijk and for its facilities to be used. What will the residents of the building and other citizens make use of today? Will someone book the Geust Room, hang their clothes to dry by the Laundry Space, practice their instruments in the Music Room, or give a workshop in the Makers Space? Will people pick up packages from the Pick-up Point, order a coffee in the café, or use the Work Space to work or study? Are vegetables going to be harvested in the greenhouse, and will the garden be used to play, read or eat in?

Today, we‘ll follow Juliane, Eberhard, and Lidia, and see how they will use the building. Clouds and some rain are expected, but mostly the sun in going to shine today!

On the ground floor of the building are the bike storage (1), mail boxes (2), and different types of co-living dwellings. There are also spaces for non-residents to use, like the café (3), Makers Space (4) and Work Spaces (5), and the big shared garden (6).

On the ground floor lives Juliane with her husband Valentin, and their four sons Arvin, Levin, Iason and Taron. They live in the semi-shared appartment. Here, they share the living room of 55m 2 with one other family. On the second floor, they have their private part of 95m 2 with their own bedrooms and bathroom,

The first floor contains the private spaces for the co-living for family dwellings, and more shared living for individuals. The shared spaces on this floor are The Living Room (1), Music Room (2), Work Spaces (3), the Guest Room (4), and shared balconies (5).

On the second floor is the third dwelling type of private apartments, and more shared spaces. Here, the residents can use the Laundry Space (1), and a second shared living room (2). On this floor balconies are introduced, as on the ground and first floor, that can function as winter gardens.

Lidia‘s house is on this floor. She lives in the east-block, where she shares her corridor and bathroom with three others on the same floor. The living room and kitchen of 87m 2 is shared between her floor and the floor above her, so eight people in total. The living room is double height, with a mezzanine connecting the two floors. Lidia‘s own bedroom is 18m 2 with an additional 11m 2 of semi-shared space through the big corridor/winter garden.

The top floor of the building contains the Greenhouse (1) with an extra outside vegetable garden. Also on this floor is one extra living room (2). The west building does not have this extra floor, to allow a view on the water and the port of Antwerp for the residents of the top floor.

Eberhard and Myriam live in the final dwelling type. Since their two kids have moved out, they decided to live smaller in this 47m 2 apartment on the third floor. The house has an additional 11m 2 of balcony/ winter garden, and a wide access galery that adds to their living space.

7:00 It is time for Eberhard and Juliane to wake up

Juliane‘s family eats breakfast together in the shared living room

7:30

Then Eberhard cleans the house...

Eberhard and Myriam first eat breakfast together

Oh, how I love this view in the morning...

7:30 7:40

The four boys leave for school, Valentin will be working all day in the Work Space of the building, and Juliane will work half the day

...and does the laundry

8:00 Now also Lidia wakes up

I slept well. That‘s a good start for my study day!

On her way out, she walks past the Makers Space to sign up for a sewing machine

She leaves to go to the library to study

Oh, Juliane already signed up for tonight... I‘ll sign up for tomorrow then!

11:30

Just like most of the residents of the building, Eberhard leaves too, to do some groceries

Is your shopping list complete?

12:30

13:00

When he gets home, he makes lunch for him and Myriam, and they eat on their balcony

Yes, but I don‘t need to buy zucchini and lettuce. I will pick those up at the greenhouse today!

As Eberhard finishes the dishes, Juliane gets back home from work

I‘ll do the dishes, Myriam!

13:30 She takes some time to water her plants...

...clean the house... 13:45

14:05

...and hang her clean clothes outside the Laundry Space to dry

14:00 14:15

Around the same time, Lidia comes home from studying in the library all morning

She walks through the shared corridor on her way to the Work Space

Hey Lidia, how is your day going?

It was way too crowded in the library, I am going to study in the Work Space here for the rest of the day

As she doesn‘t want to study alone, she texts her friends to come join her

When Lidia enters the Work Space, she sees Julinane‘s husband, Valentin, sitting there as well

14:20 15:00

Concentrating hard on studying and working, they all get distracted by Valentin getting a text

Just letting you know that the boys just got home. See you around 18:15? J.

Hi mom, we‘re home! I‘ve got the mail

16:25

15:15

First, Juliane helps the kids with their homework

17:00

When the homework is done, it is time to play outside for both the kids and Juliane

What will the vegetables look like today?

While Juliane is working in the greenhouse, Eberhard and Myriam go out for a walk. Then it starts to rain...

Yes! Rain! The plants in the vegetable garden are going to love this!

Luckily we brought our umbrella!

17:30 As Juliane works in the greenhouse, she feels more happy and energetic...

...while Lidia and her friends have used all their energy for the day

Let‘s call it a day, guys

Good idea. Also, the rain has stopped, so we can go do groceries for dinner now!

17:45 They leave the building. At the same time Eberhard and Myriam return from their walk

Eberhard and Myriam pick up some vegetables from the greenhouse... ...and their laundry from the Laundry space... ...before they get to their home

18:15 Lidia and her friends return from grocery shopping

The sun is so nice... Shall we enjoy it a bit longer and drink something at the café?

Juliane gets home from the greenhouse to cook dinner for her family

18:40 when dinner is ready, Juliane discusses the day with her kids and Valentin...

...while Lidia is cooking with her friends in the shared living room of the building

19:00 19:30

Did you know, you can also book this room as a party room? I might celebrate my birthday here next week!

It is slowly getting a bit darker outside, so they want to turn on the lights

Oh no! The light doesn‘t work!

one seen keys with a red keychain?

Co-living Cadix

Mateo: Susan:

Si, by the mailboxes!

Amazing, thanks!

Hi all, one of the lights in The Living Room doens‘t work anymore. Is there someone who can come h

And so Eberhard leaves Myriam on a mission to fix the light...

I‘ll send a text in the groupchat, maybe Eberhard can help us out!

Co-living Cadix

Amazing, thanks!

Lidia:

Hi all, one of the lightsinTheLiving Room doens‘t work anymore. Is there someone who can come help us fix it?

Of course, I‘ll come rightaway!

...quickly gets some stuff from his cupboard in the Makers Space...

...and runs from the stairs to The Living Room

19:50

20:00

It was a quick fix, as only the light bulb needed to be changed

Alright, all done!

Thanks a lot Eberhard!

Lidia had fun with her friends, but now she really needs some time alone

It was really nice guys, I‘ll see you in the library tomorrow! See you later!

Have a good evening. Any plans for tonight?

Well, I wanted to play on my saxophone in the Music Room today, but it is a bit too late for that now...

Bye!

20:05

Now I can finally crash on my couch and watch a movie

As Lidia walks to her room, she passes Juliane on her way to sew in the Makers Space

Good evening, Lidia Hi Juliane!

22:00

While Juliane finishes her sewing work, Eberhard and Myriam get ready for bed

Tomorrow I am going to play the saxophone

It‘s so nice that I can still work on my sewing project when the kids are in bed already

Goodnight, Myriam Time to close the curtains

Goodnight, Eberhard Can you turn off the light? Click!

22:15

It is now time for Lidia to go to sleep as well

Quickly pack my bag for tomorrow...

YAWN

Are you going to work here again tomorrow?

No, I‘ll work at the office

23:00 Juliane and Valentin drink their last sips of tea before going to bed

Sssh, don‘t wake the kids

And so the day has come to an end in the building. The residents have once again made great use of the public, shared, and private spaces.
