After 15 years, Nebraska is thrilled to once again host the North American Manure Expo.
We are excited to welcome you to Wayne, a community that embodies the agricultural spirit of the region. We’ve worked hard to make this the best year yet. Tours now have their own dedicated day separate from the trade show, giving you extra time to connect with exhibitors and sponsors. We’ve also broken the sessions into multiple time slots, so you have more time to absorb and reflect on the content.
We hope you enjoy the slightly expanded schedule and take full advantage of the many learning opportunities – from the basics to advanced concepts like precision application and, of course, the latest innovations.
Whether you’re a custom applicator, crop or livestock farmer, researcher, educator, policymaker or industry partner, you are an essential part of a system that feeds the world, protects our natural resources, and sustains the land for future generations. Your work matters.
With Iowa and Nebraska ranking first and second in the country for red meat production, there’s no shortage of manure, and the volume of grain production in our region positions us as natural leaders in professional manure management.
Manure provides valuable nutrients and improves soil health. When managed responsibly, it also minimizes nutrient runoff, water contamination and greenhouse gas
emissions. Nebraska manure applicators play a vital role in protecting our water and soil while keeping agriculture productive and sustainable. Our work is meaningful, and events like this inspire us to keep learning and improving together.
The Expo is possible because of an incredible team. Our planning team includes Nebraska Extension, Annex Business Media, manure applicators, USDA-ARS and NRCS, and many others who gave countless hours. Special thanks to the Wayne County Fair board for hosting us and accommodating our various needs while simultaneously preparing for their own major event, and thanks to MPM Farms for opening their operation for agitation demonstrations. Thank you to all our speakers and moderators for the outstanding education sessions and tours they’ve contributed. A note from a manure applicator (and the Expo Board President)
Welcome to the North American Manure
My name is Megan Dresbach and I co-own and operate W.D. Farms LLC, a liquid manure application company based out of Circleville, OH, with my father, Eric, and one of my two brothers. I can also be found on Facebook and Instagram as @OhioManureGal.
I currently have the privilege of serving this industry as president of the Expo Board. The Expo was created in 2001 by the Professional Nutrient Applicators Association of Wisconsin (PNAAW) and University of Wisconsin Extension so manure applicators could see the latest technology go head to head in the field. The Expo has grown thanks to the support of industry, becoming the premier event for all aspects of the manure industry. The Expo board is the non-profit that guides the show, ensuring the trade show, educational sessions and field demos meet the needs of manufacturers and applicators.
To plan an event this size, especially moving to different locations every year, numerous parties are needed to make this
event a success! We are fortunate to have been partners with Annex Business Media for many years, and we look forward to many more!

TOUR #1: COMPOSTING, RENEWABLE ENERGY AND MODERN CATTLE CARE
This half-day experience highlighting agricultural operations that transform waste into valuable resources. Stops include Bacon Hill Farm, home to an anaerobic digester that generated methane-powered electricity beginning in 2005 and operated for 15 years as part of Olean Energy; Doernemann Composting, a permitted facility established in 1999 that provides composting services alongside a construction and demolition landfill; and Reigle Cattle Company, a family-run cattle operation that recently expanded with the addition of new roller-compacted concrete pens.
TOUR #2: RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY AND REGENERATIVE FARMING
The tour includes the Haskell Agricultural Laboratory, a University of Nebraska site featuring long-term organic versus inorganic fertilizer trials, nitrogen-sensing technology, and insights into nearby egg producer Michael Foods. It also stops at the Kvols Beef Feedlot, a multi-generation livestock operation that expanded with the addition of a deep-pit beef barn and shares real-world experiences with the system. The final stop is the Junior Pfanstiel Farm, a 270-acre regenerative organic operation focused on reducing chemical inputs and improving soil fertility through the use of cover crops.
TOUR #3: POULTRY PRODUCTION AND MANUFACTURING
Experience a look at the poultry industry from barn to processing and equipment manufacturing. Participants will take a drive-by tour of a broiler farm, where the on-board guide will highlight key features of the active broiler facility. The tour then stops at the Lincoln Premium Poultry Processing Plant, a state-of-the-art Fremont facility built to supply Costco’s rotisserie chickens and capable of processing more than 10 million pounds of chicken each week while employing roughly 1,200 workers. The final stop is Mighty Giant, a factory that produces tub grinders and litter-loading equipment essential for poultry manure handling.
TOUR #4: INNOVATION IN LIVESTOCK AND MANURE EQUIPMENT
This tour features a half-day exploration of two livestock operations and one manufacturing facility. Participants will visit Zobel Family Farms, a three-generation beef and pork operation recognized with the 2013 Environmental Stewardship Award for its commitment to responsible production practices. The tour then stops at Bar K, a beef feedlot that showcases a deep pit confinement system designed to protect the environment. The final stop is West Point Implement, a regional leader in manure application and feedlot management equipment, including the well-known SpreadAll Manure Spreader line.
TOUR #5: FAMILY FUN: AG, WILDLIFE AND NEBRASKA HISTORY
This tour is a full-day experience designed for visitors of all ages and features a blend of agriculture, wildlife, and Nebraska history. The tour begins at Pfanny’s Farm, a family-owned agrotourism destination dedicated to land stewardship and known for combining traditional and modern crop and livestock management practices that support long-term soil and natural resource health. Participants also visit 4 Aces Dairy, a 180-head robotic dairy where automation significantly reduces labor needs and guests can observe milking technology in action through a 24/7 viewing room. The tour continues with a stop at Grove Lake Wildlife Management Area, home to a 50-acre fishing lake and more than 2,000 acres of prime habitat for deer, turkey, pheasant, and quail, where visitors will enjoy a boxed lunch. The day concludes at the Ashfall Fossil Beds, a rare type of fossil site called lagerstätten that provides an exceptional ecological “snapshot” of ancient organisms.

Mind your manure manners: Manure and nutrient management decisions affect your neighbors, the environment, and your bottom line. Learn how to “mind your manure manners” when stockpiling or applying manure to maximize profitability, and minimize environmental risks and community concerns.
Manure and inorganic fertilizers supply essential nutrients but differ in how they interact with soil, crops, and water. This session compares nutrient availability, soil health impacts, and water quality risks to support informed management decisions.
Dr. Amy Schmidt is a professor in biological systems engineering and animal science, leading an integrated research and extension program focused on manure and mortality management systems that protect water quality while enhancing soil health and crop productivity.
This session will cover the who, what, when, where and why of manure sampling to give you confidence in getting a representative sample. Having current manure samples collected with best practices will aid in creating a manure management plan (MMP) tailored to your farming operation. Learn how to compare your manure results to thousands in ManureDB, the manure database.
Melissa Wilson is an associate professor and manure nutrient management specialist at the University of Minnesota with appointments in both research and extension. Her research focuses on filling knowledge gaps about manure nutrient cycling as farming practices, weather, and technologies change.
Nancy Bohl Bormann is a manure and nutrient management researcher at the University of Minnesota. Her main research focuses on the nationwide manure test database ManureDB. Previously she worked in the nutrient management field for 14 years at The Maschhoffs, and she grain farms with her family.
This session covers using nitrogen inhibitors with manure to improve nitrogen use efficiency and reduce losses. Topics include inhibitor types, efficacy under different conditions and impacts on volatilization, leaching, yield, and profitability, with practical guidance from field research.
Javed Iqbal is an associate professor at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln specializing in soil nutrient management, manure utilization, and water quality. His research focuses on improving nitrogen use efficiency and reducing nitrate leaching through precision agriculture and integrated nutrient management strategies.
Reducing runoff is critical for decreasing pollutant movement to downstream waterbodies. This session will highlight the potential nutrient reductions from a variety of practices and demonstrate some of these practices using the Conservation Station portable rainfall simulator.
Matt Helmers is the director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center and a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at Iowa State University.
This session will introduce the ManureTech Decision-Support Tools for dairy and swine and demonstrate their use in selecting manure management systems that fit prioritized needs of individual livestock operations.
Rick’s interests focus on improving environmental conditions in and around livestock and poultry facilities, mitigating thermal stress in livestock and poultry, and facility design for optimal management of animals, labor, manure, and other resources.

Manure nutrient availability is highly variable, making accurate crediting a challenge. New guidelines reflect this uncertainty. Real-time data and decision support enable dynamic manure crediting – improving accuracy, aligning nutrients with crop needs, and supporting better in-season nitrogen management decisions.
Jackson Stansell is Founder & CEO of Sentinel Ag. A Dothan, AL native, he holds degrees in Engineering Sciences from Harvard and Agricultural Engineering from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. He led development of Sentinel’s flagship nitrogen management system, focused on improving farm profitability and land stewardship.

Hear from a panel of professionals which includes marketing and media management, agronomy and consulting, education, and application. Panelists will discuss how they came into their jobs, why they stay, and how you, your friends or your family can capitalize on the various career opportunities in the field of manure management.
Ryan Loofe is the owner of Rockin’ L Spreading. Founded in 2019 and based in Walthill, Rockin’ L specializes in application of solid manure and other soil amendments. As a 5th generation farmer using manure on his farm since 2014, he understands the importance of maintaining and building soils, recently adding soil testing to his list of services.
Robb Meinen holds Soil Science PhD, Animal Science MS, and Agricultural Systems Management BS degrees. He provides certification to nutrient management planners and commercial manure haulers/ brokers. He has twice been recognized with the highest environmental award in Pennsylvania, plus the highest environmental award in the swine industry.
Joe got his start in the manure industry by interning for the UNL Manure Management team. Since then, he has managed client accounts at Nutrient Advisors for 14 years; focusing on compliance, record keeping, and manure management. Growing up on a dairy, Joe developed a strong passion for the industry though he likes working with all species.
Michelle is the group publisher of agriculture and content studio director for Annex Business Media. In her executive role, she leads nine ag media brands and eight events including Manure Manager and Manure Expo. Her unique career arc includes 15+ years of experience in leadership, sales, advertising and marketing. She is a chartered marketer, agribusiness and business college graduate, a former agronomist, and has experience in the purebred cattle industry.
Megan Dresbach operates W.D. Farms LLC, a manure management company based in Circleville, OH, with her dad and brother. Known online as the Ohio Manure Gal, she shares insights into the industry and its role in advancing agriculture.

Weed seeds in manure can be a significant problem, increasing a field’s weed seed bank when the manure is land applied. This session will discuss strategies for reducing weed seed viability and managing other contaminants in manure.
Chryseis has been with University of Minnesota Extension since 2018 as an extension educator. Her office is in Morris, MN and she is part of the crops team, focusing on manure nutrient management.
This session explores real-time manure sensing technologies to improve nutrient management. Participants will learn how manure variability affects application accuracy and how tools like NIRS provide instant nutrient analysis. Practical setup, applications, and research on optimizing nitrogen and phosphorus management will be covered.
Joe Sanford is an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin–Platteville. He teaches nutrient management and conducts research in agricultural wastewater and manure management, including precision manure application and manure processing systems, and uses of biochar in agricultural systems.
This session highlights innovations in manure management, focusing on anaerobic digestion within a circular bioeconomy. It covers digester systems, U.S. adoption trends, and community models, along with opportunities for advanced processing to improve nutrient recovery and create value-added products.
Dr. Mahmoud Sharara is an associate extension professor at North Carolina State University. His program focuses on developing strategies and technologies to improve nutrient utilization and reduce environmental risk in concentrated animal production regions through manure processing, bioenergy systems and value-added products from manure.
Doug Hamilton is an extension specialist with Oklahoma State University – using engineering expertise to develop nature-based systems for production agriculture. Dr. Hamilton has been working in anaerobic digestion since the 1980s. He has designed and operated all types of anaerobic systems ranging from lagoons to high-rate digesters.
Learn about the types of gases present in and around manure, associated hazards, the measurement of gases, foaming hazards and ventilation methods to reduce the concentrations of manure gases.
Dr. Matt Nonnenmann, PhD, CIH, is an industrial hygienist who specializes in measuring and controlling hazards on farms. He is a professor in the Department of Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health at UNMC. Dr. Nonnenmann has 30 years of experience working in the agricultural and health care sectors.
Aaron grew up working on his grandfather’s beef farm in PA. He is an associate professor at the University of Nebraska in Environmental, Agricultural and Occupational Health and Biological Systems Engineering and works with the Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health.
This session explores how manure can play a central role in rebuilding soil health and closing critical gaps in modern cropping systems. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how manure contributes to key soil health components, including soil organic matter, biological activity, and nutrient cycling.
Dr. Córdova, soil scientist and trained agroecologist, holds a PhD from Iowa State University. Her program focuses on carbon sequestration, nitrogen fixation and long-term resilience in diverse cropping systems through on-farm soil health assessments, thereby advancing regenerative agriculture globally.

Use of plastics in agriculture contributes to soil contamination, microplastic pollution, and reduced long-term soil health. Single-use plastics like mulch films, bale wrap, and silage bags and covers can degrade into contaminants that can alter soil pH, disrupt microbial communities and hinder plant growth. Additionally, plastic residues can leach hazardous chemicals which could end up in the food chain. The panel will address the concerns with plastics use in agricultural settings, alternatives to traditional plastics, recycling of agricultural plastics and equipment design to deal with agricultural plastics.
Brian Grady is the Douglas and Hilda Bourne Chair of Chemical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He has more than 170 refereed journal publications and 9 US patents. He served as the President of the Society of Plastics Engineering in 2018-2019 and was honored as a Technical Fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers in 2012.
Rod Giese of Beemer, NE, is the president of Jones Industries. He has managed a feeder pig operation and is DEQ certified in lagoon and manure management. After accepting the position of Parts Manager at Parts Junction, a division of Jones Industries, he took the role of sales manager before becoming president and sole owner of the company.

Eugene, along with his wife of 40 years, Kelly, farm corn and soybeans in the Minden, NE area. He has two children, one working in the pork industry and another actively farming with them. Gene has been selling grain bags for twenty years and is an avid supporter to recycling used bags.
Bobbi is a chemist with a decade of experience investigating how chemicals interact with surfaces. She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of Nebraska Kearney and a PhD from the University of Connecticut. She focuses on leveraging knowledge of chemicals and the environment to design impactful solutions.
Alfredo DiCostanzo started as University of Nebraska Beef Systems Extension Educator in March of 2022 after serving for nearly 30 years as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota. His main areas of focus are nutrition and management of cattle feedlots and cow-calf operations.
Join members from Puck in a discussion on liquid manure dragline systems including safety, return on investment, and pump control systems. Doug and Eric bring years of experience both from a sales perspective as well as drawing from their experience working on a pumping crew to provide valuable insights and information on all aspects of liquid dragline systems.
Doug and Eric have been working for Puck for a combined 24 years, holding a variety of roles from manure application team member, manufacturing supervisor, product development and most recently sales. One of the greatest challenges when managing farm waste is stopping deadline H2S gas from forming. This presentation will illustrate how adding inorganic oxygen rich molecules in an anaerobic pretreatment can deliver multiple benefits – preventing H2S formation, reducing odor and corrosion, and increasing bacterial growth which reduces sludge by speeding up the breakdown of organic matter.
