AMARO FORMIDABILE

Alcohol content: 32.5%

To the nose: Three-dimensional, not attributable to a single sensation: citrusy, slightly smoky.

To the eye: Amber.

On the palate: incredibly polyphonic in the mouth: the sensations evolve almost simultaneously, although they keep their individual characteristics. The top note is aromatic, with a taste of the peel of the three types of citrus and of aniseed joined by a spicy, herbaceous and warm heart of carnation and coriander, mugwort and muscat rose. The base is toasted and woody.

Formidabile is a natural bitter liqueur handmade through a process of maceration of aromatic and officinal plants in pure grain alcohol. It is produced through cold maceration of various botanicals without the aid of additives, coloring, caramel of any type of synthetic or natural flavor. The complex bouquet of Amaro Formidabile arises from the combination of herbs, flowers, barks, roots and fruit peels with concentration percentages that are much higher than what is suggested in the literature on the subject. Cinchona, Chinese Rhubarb, Damask Rose, Gentian, Bitter Orange Peel are just some of the botanicals.

Pallini was founded in 1875 by Nicola Pallini who established the first facility in Antrodoco, a small village near Rome, in the Abruzzi region. In 1922, Nicola’s son, Virgilio Pallini, moved the business to Rome, in a small distillery near the Pantheon. During the ā€˜60s, the company was moved to Via Tiburtina 1314 – the current headquarter. Here, the Pallini family expanded the production of Romana Sambuca, one of the most successful Italian liqueurs in the world. Among other products, MistrĆ  Pallini, a delicious anise-based liqueur, established itself as a trendy liqueur to lace espresso coffee. In 1999, Pallini started exporting its Pallini Limoncello brand worldwide. Today it is the most widely distributed and No.1 selling premium brand internationally. In 2022 Pallini acquired Amaro Formidabile, a hand-made bitter liqueur crafted only with natural ingredients. Today, Pallini is 149 years old and it is owned and run by Micaela Pallini, who represents the 5th generation of Pallinis.

DISTILLERIA F.LLI CAFFO SRL

Alcohol content: 35%

To the nose:The intense aromas that reach the nose unfold in a fresh sip, rich with citrus like orange and bergamot and then develop in the fresh hints of aromatic and balsamic herbs. Then, warmer and more floral tones of honey and spices (such as saffron and licorice) and pastries (like vanilla and cookies) approach softly and envelope your senses.

To the eye:Like clear and transparent amber with golden and brown hues, this is how Vecchio Amaro del Capo appears in its chilled glass.

On the palate: Sweet to the taste, its dense and creamy body envelops your tongue with softness, revealing its warm alcoholic body in the cold of its minus 20 degrees.

Cooked fruit, dried fruit and toasted notes of caramel finally enrich this continuous discovery. A slightly bitter hint gives personality to the soft embrace which lingers in your mouth in all its multifaceted aromas

A more than one hundred year old story that started with Giuseppe Caffo Mastro Distillatore at the end of the 19th century, when Giuseppe himself, at the foot of Mount Etna, began distilling marc, founding the Italian company that still bears his name, which has become a leading brand of Made in Italy today. In 1915, after running it for years on a rented basis, he took over an existing distillery in Santa Venerina, near Catania, with production based mainly on spirits, alcohol and wine derivatives. With the passage of time, the production of liqueurs obtained from ancient recipes began, which, thanks to the skilful dosage of aromatic and officinal herbs infused in top-quality alcohol, immediately won the favour of gourmets and the refined clientele of the time. The company is now in the hands of Giuseppe’s grandson of the same name and his son Sebastiano, combining experience and innovation, with the necessary changes to the distillation equipment and liquor processing to obtain the best results. It has grown rapidly, even opening branches abroad and becoming the key point of a group of companies controlled by the holding company CAFFO 1915 srl. Today, the ancient Distillery is the fulcrum of the Caffo 1915 Group, where startups and historical companies coexist, representing around 1000 years of intertwined histories with a modern and international outlook.

SPIRIT BRAND / DISTILLER OF THE YEAR 2019

The Nonino family has devoted itself to the Art of Distillation since 1897, the year when Orazio Nonino, the family founder, established in Ronchi di Percoto the premises of his distillery, which until then had existed only as an itinerant still. The Nonino Distilleries consist of Five Artisanal Distilleries, each with 12 exclusive copper batch steam stills, one for each member of the family, plus one still for each grandchild as a sign of continuity of the Art of distillation. This is how the inimitable Nonino Grappa and Distillates are produced, respecting the Tradition and the rhythms of Craftsmanship. Nonino Grappa and ƙEĀ®, Aged and Riserva, are bottled without the addition of color additives. Today the 7 Grappa Nonino Ageing Warehouses contain 2620 barriques and small casks of different kinds of wood. On January 27th 2020, in San Francisco, Nonino is proclaimed ā€˜Best Distillery in the World’ Spirit Brand/Distiller of the Year 2019 by Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards. It is the first time for Italy and Grappa.
